want me to blow ur mind....future of cobalt

well before i get flamed, locked, banned, shitfaced, etc. id like to make a few speculations. just my opinion and i think that none of this is based on evidence rather from hearing stuff here and there.

well 1st to the cobalt
-the eatan supercharger that was sold on the ss/sc on the LSJ had an increase in 350 bucks from original GM price.

-due to this GM stocked roughly guessing 2000 s/c and are being liquidified on the new 07 cobalt ss/sc

-then later this year the ss/sc option wont be avaible for the summer to buy.

-but when you think a turbos coming in guess the LNF but dont flame me on that. its just an assumption

-cobalt WONT be the 1st FWD with the LNF. guess the saturn?? WRONG. how about the pontiac.....still wrong. but whats else. well its a chevy surpriseingly. its the HHR getting the turbo believe it or not.

-so after that theres stages of course right??? stage1 or 2? idk but get 255hp to a 290 hp jump on the turbo.

- ok the cobalt finally gets the turbo so you think your a hotshot eh???? well lets say that even if you have that.....those 2.4 SS models are gonna be thrrilled with this

-CAN SOMEONE SAY SUPERCHARGED 2.4??? well i can and ratings show that the 2.4 will get a new s/c like the cavy did back in the day. and get this hp number.....rated at 290 will probably hit sales as 260-290 hp. so basically this is gonna destroy a lot of the competition with those numbers

- ok unofortunately no plans for 2.2 but hey we got turbos so were set lol. go as hahn or greddy lol.

ok who thinks this is gonna happen ??? i think thats a pretty good summery.

This turned into ANOTHER future cobalt "turbo" thread....

I don't see a turbo coming until 2009, if that.

Okay... turbo Cobalt out of the question... we all know that the HHR SS will be a reality very soon, and the Sky RL and Solstice GXP already exist.

I don't see dealer stage kits for the LNF... the damn thing can't run anymore boost... it's already at like 20 out of the box... and we all know the head gaskets can't handle much more than that. You'd have to swap in a bigger turbo to get up the power... and I don't see GM pushing that kinda work.

Besides... from the LNF dynos I've seen... it's pushing hp numbers close to ours... just more torque. The LSJ is pretty damn good at doing what it does on a moderate amount of boost.

The mods you listed would potentially jack up the price so much that this car would no longer be a sport economy compact. It would be in a higher class of performance, but there is no justification for the price increase that would come with it. Basically, you just turned a $20K car into a $30K car. The Cobalt SS will not sell at that price becase the competition is better looking and has a better reputation (granted, that's just because American cars aren't known for reliability like other cars are). Some of these are very realistic possibilities, but I highly doubt that we will be seeing a 290hp Cobalt SS in the near future. I hope the dream you had that made you believe this was a really good one though.

Uh. I do NOT see GM having two boosted cars...even if one is Turbo and the other S/C. It won't happen. They would be competing with themself.

im actually not agreeing with you on that turbo maxed out. i highly doubt thats the case. seriously GM nots that stupid to not offer stages 1 and 2 like they did with the cobalt. they got a lot of money from that and thats what people want. performance upgrades with warrenty

I wonder if Chevy is going to do what Dodge did with the SRT4's. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Dodge put stage 1 on the SRT4's after a couple of years. I wonder if they are going to be putting the stage one that we can buy on the production line. I don't know if that would call for a new motor code though.

I give up. Time for me to put my flame suit on.

^ well to be fair, he said GM would release a S/C kit for the 2.4, not sell it from the factory that way (even if it is unlikely one way or the other).

While speculating may be the spawn of "official" rumors, and the cause of heartbreak to those who believe those rumors, I think it is at least a good way to blow off some creative steam. :P

How about this food for thought though:

Both the 2.4 "Twin Cam" and the 2.2 Ecotec in the J-body platform got supercharger upgrades from GM. The 2.4 got it a little late, and it was only an M45, but the Ecotec got it only a year after being an available engine option.

SS this and SS that!!

Chevy should put a limit on wtf they call an SS! If so an SS should have to be making a certain HP and have certain mechanical upgrades that make it an SS.. God forbid they call the HHR an SS If soo it better be making over 200hp as thats what I think an SS in the compact catagory should be making! 2.4L's should have been called Cobalt sport or some **** cause boy when I get some kid asking me is that an SS I say ya, oh is it S/Ced?? No I say, then there dissapointed... SuperSport= Supercharged200+hp... Sport=less than.. get it?? Sorry don't want to start anything just having a cranky night!!! Now wheres my turbo???

Dude, I think you're in the wrong thread. There's a whole thread about this called "GM tightens usage of SS label" or something like that.

The HHR will be a SS... guess you haven't been reading up on your prototypes. It will have the "260"hp LNF 2.0 Turbo. Look for it in the near future. Making closer to 220 whp.

Does anyone know if its true that the S/C Cobalt is goin out of production soon. I wanna order mine in three months from the factory and il have to wait another 7-8 weeks for the dealer to get it. I dont want it now because i want 0% APR or the $1000 rebate. I can save more money too. Two people on this site said that they talked to a GM tech and he said that there wont be any boosted Cobalt for 08, so it could be true. Did the price to GM for the S/C really go up? I don understand why...

No its not going out of production soon. GM LOVES THIS CAR and markets it everywhere....

P.s. what the hell was "mind blowing" about this thread? It proved nothing at all

To get the rebates or 0% you have to take delivery from dealer stock... what's on the lot.

No special orders and 0%... sorry.

Blown 4-banger and I spoke to the guys at the GMPP booth at the Phoenix World of Wheels and they said No boost for 2008. 2009 will dawn the Gen 2 Cobalt which will debut the LNF. The reason the LSJ crate motor was removed from the catalog was because they were needed for the assembly line, nothing more.

I love how this thread (other than the original post) contains absolutely no facts or proof of anything regarding the future situation of the Cobalt yet everyone is so deadset on something. Even the speculation of the LNFs turbocharger being "maxed out from factory" and basing things off of things that they saw someone that they more than likely didn't know as "fact".

Not pointing any fingers but this thread is just plain silly with information and it's sources.
