Project car on its way! 06 LS Balt
Project car on its way! 06 LS Balt
I've been the owner of a jbody for 6 years, 98 Sunfire. I've modded this car 10 times over and only recently did I start wondering what was happening now that the jbodies are no more. The Cobalt has always looked like a sweet car to me.

After some looking around I found an 06 LS Cobalt in Oklahoma. 2.2L 4spd auto, front windshield and side passenger window was taken out by a payloader. Car never left the dealership lot. They auctioned it off and I was there with the coins to take it off their hands. So now its on the truck on its way back to Canada. I can't believe it........ A new car !!

Let the fun begin.

Want some ideas?
A stock powertrain can take the upcoming Garrett turbo kit.
An upgraded powertrain (engine and your automatic trans) can handle over 400 HP completely street legal.
Lip kit or full facia?
Suspension? TONS of things to do there.

Looks like lip kits are popular. The one thing I don't like is badly designed kits with retarded clearence. Whats the best lip kit to go with, the RKSport lip kit? Easy to mount on? Are there any nice polyurethane kits out there yet?
Suspension, I'm not even going to talk about it till I've done some reading. From what I can tell the Cobalt has several suspension setups from the factory? The one thing I am wondering about...
Is lowering + lip kit = bad news!?
Like I said, Garrett. No, you won't have to upgrade anything to use their retail kit upon release. About $3500.
GM makes 3 different suspensions for the car. FE1, 3, and 5. The car you got has FE1. All the components are interchangable.
You need a specific usage goal for the car. It will guide your planning.

The goal is to be streetable but with some performance to play on the quarter.
The turbo option sounds great. GM has a supercharger for the 2.2L ecotec (different part#), are these cobalt friendly superchargers?
My goal right now is to find some wheels for the car! I just learned about the 4 bolt vs. 5 bolt crap. I think chev screwed up there!
Saturn Ion has the same engines as the Cobalt. Unless there were some minor changes, I doubt GM made any.
I thought there was a turbo out for the Ion?

Are you a bodyman per chance vin? Just wondering, also you know that cars in the states dont come with day time running lights right? So you will need to buy a day time running lights module and hook it up so it can pass mechanical. If you happen to be in victoria BC I can change that windsheild for you and do the structural. ;-) I'm a bodyman. ;-) ANyways looks like fun! I'm curious to see how much duty is gonna be on that sucker! hehe! Keep us updated.GL!

Hes building one hell of a machine at the moment. 38 Ford coupe sitting on an SRT10 chassis, Cadillac V8, rear end is out of a 340 Duster. Not so sure about the caddy but hes hung up on it. They already have it turning around 400 HP with little effort so I can't argue!!
My Sunfire is from Long Island, I had to install the module for it.
I'll post pictures when shes back together.
Guess what!
Restored!
Work needed:
-New windshield, passenger door window, straighten roof and passenger window
-Minor body work, new paint job

Wow the Canadian dollar is starting to catch the American dollar.
I priced the same car on the dealer lot here and they wanted $14k + addon costs.
Since then I changed the plugs in it (just for kicks really). Nice car.
