Probably Buying a Cobalt SS in the next month or so. Need advice.

Hello guys, I just joined the CobaltSS.net site but I'm no noob to the Cobalt SS-S/C. I usually post on www.GMInsidenews.com/ under the same 'net name.

I may be ordering a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt SS-S/C Victory Red, High Polish Aluminum Wheels, High Mounted Spoiler, Air Bags, and Limited Slip/Recaros G85 ....within the next three weeks I NEED CONFIRMATION on some information first though.

1. Can recaros (IE G85) w/ the LSD still be ordered? I've heard conflicting information some say its still available some say not. Which is true and if not, then why? rationale?

2. Should I order a sunroof as they 'stick up and out' and only open like half way and kind of suck in the Cobalt based on my experience. Why or why not?

3. What are the prevailing rumors with the Cobalt SS gen-2 being turboed 2.0 LNF Ecotec II D.I. or an improved S/C version (possibly the roots type s/c Eaton showed at Sema?) and when do you guys think it will come out and at what price?

anything else i should consider???

Any Chevy (or other GM) salesman who can confirm or deny this would be much appreciated. CSS members and mods and admins that have any info I'd really appreciate it!

1. Yes u can still get it . No on the recaro's ....as a consolation prize u get heated seats free They cut the price of the G85 in 1/2 to reflect just the differential .

2. Personal opinion :shrugs: I would hate a hardtop . The sunroof is slower than a turtle walking thru glue ....but mine has been reliable and never had a problem .

1. I would recommend getting the LSD. I have rally enjoyed the way that my car handles when I push the car out of the turns.

2. That was is your own personal choice like SilverSS/SC said. If you want to have a sunroof and a little more open air feeling, then get one. If you don't like to open windows or look up and see the sky, then don't get one.

thank you for the input. why did they get rid of the recaro part of the option? Yeah I think I'll be getting the sunroof, just want to make sure I won't have any issues with it. My friend has an 05 SS-S/C in black w/ the sunroof and it had sealing issues as well as the window seals on the passenger side.

How are the 'standard' seats as opposed to the recaros? Do they hold up well over time? If I want to autocross my Cobalt SS will the stock seats work decently relative to a recaro equipped car?

And No I don't work for toyota my family works at GM and I'm a student at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor right now. Currently I drove a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx black w/ grey interior, sunroof, LS. Its a nice family car as we average about 26mpg in it.

I can only offer one small item. Concerning the difference in the engine of the 2008 model, if you wait for a couple months, it will be announced officially. They retool the plant in June for 2008 production, and the auto shows are on tour right now. The Chicago show is next, I'll be going, and I hope to learn a little more.

I think the recaros suck but thats my opinion. I prefer the regular seats, way more comfy.

I believe you can still get recaros, they arnt as many around, but i did go to my local dealer and i was looking at the new ss/sc and there was about 10 lined up, one had recaros and LSD, i am 99.9% sure it was an 07 but could be wrong. this is also in canada, maybe it is differant in the states.
ie. my friend was looking online at the new mazdaspeed 3's and there is the regular one and there is a GT with more options, we went to the dealer and there was no GT, but the regular one came with all the "GT" options, standard.

best thing to do is ask the dealer....

I love my recaro's, IMO i think the normal ss seats look cheap.... you can get them in differant colors and recaros only come black, but they are way better....it would be cool if you could get colored recaro's though....

some people dont like them though
recaros=no butt warmers, no power seats(do the regalur ones come powered??)

Hehe , I was gonna mention ....but I figured all the "wheres the proof" patrol would be in full force . Theres a few(as in less than 4) 2008's built already at lordstown . The Cobalt was on the list for Detroit , but it got pulled early . If its in Chi-town it'll be last minute . It IS supposed to be shown though on this seasons autoshow circuit .

CobaltSScrazy - A new seat standard required a passenger seat sensor for the airbag . The recaro seats were not compatible with the sensors that were already in the base seats in 2006 non-SS/SC models . The 2008 interior is new , hence ....no money spent on making the Recaro pass a standard for 1 model year .

About the comparison - I'm pretty small , 5' 10 150 lbs ...in hard turns with the base seats I was all over the place . They IMO completely sucked . They were comfy cruising on the highway and that the only good thing I will say about them . With the Recaro's I dont have the need to prop myself or pull myself one way or another using the steering wheel as a brace . The bolsters are big enuff to hold me where I am and still nice and comfy on long drives .

Halfcent I'm going on the 13th to the show so we'll have 2 more members who have talked to GM about the cobalt.

However there have been quite a few who visited the Detroit Auto show and said there will be no boost option for 2008 and 2009 will see a "new form of boost"

But it'll be interesting to see what an engineer says come the 13th

It was an early build 07 then . The first couple months of the 07 model you could get them .

and your opinion is part of the minority opinion, the recaros are dope and are also very comfy IMO, further, all of the people that have sat in my recaros have made all positive comments about them without me asking.

is it possible to 'special order' the recaros from Lordstown or dealer installed? How about just buying a set through my family at GM and then installing them myself and 'popping out' the stock seats? Would that be THAT difficult? Is it possible? Could I get 'credit' for my standard seats if I exchanged them? Erg. My family can 'pep' vehicles so if they cannot build one w/ recaros if we order one right now, what are my options as far as getting recaro's?

CobaltSScrazy

PS: The rumors in this thread are in line with what I've heard on GMI also.

You can still order the Recaros from GM (I'm pretty sure) But they're $$$$. You could seat swap... it's easy... 2 bolts per seat... piece of cake.

Here is the pricing info for both:
Driver=$902.72 - http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=15264628
Passenger=$757.12 - http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=15264631

If I had the money, I'd buy them and look into making them heated as well as compatible with the passenger sensor.

Edit: wow, at the time I got those part numbers (October 2006), GMpartsdirect.com said they were unavailable and the "add to cart" button was disabled. Now there are no notices of any sort. They're still uber expensive though. lol

i'd probably do an ingen/aem intake, stage 1 and 2, and through the GMPP catback sport exhaust on not this summer but next and call it a day.

I really want a Saturn Sky, but its ergonomics suck, no storage, no power top, cost a little much, and its rwd and has no trunk...I live in MI and for a daily driver thats a GM, a stick, and hi-po for under 24k I can't think of a better choice than the SS-S/C. Might consider an astra, but I've almost gotten my jollies off on the SS-S/C since it was confirmed to come out back in like 04.

If you know how to drive a stick it won't slip. 8k miles on my stage 2 and no slipage.
