Cobalt SS S/C Intake - Anyone Willing to Help?

Hey guys,

I was thinking about starting to do some R&D for the Cobalt SS S/C Intake and gain some interest. However, I was looking at a few pics and couldn't really tell much. Before I get started, I wanted to figure some stuff out...

Would anyone be willing to get some good shots from their SS S/C of the intake tube and the airbox? I can see that there's some type of black line going into the intake tube. Not to sound ignorant, but what is that for? Is that a vacuum line? I also noticed that the sensor is in the blower which is pretty good...

Thanks to anyone who's willing to help me do some research!

Trying to fab up an intake just by pictures doesn't sound like a good idea. Why not find a local cobalt in your area?

No, you misunderstood what I was saying. I was asking for pictures so I could see what I was getting into before I physically started production on things.

What kind of fabrication work do you do? I have some ideas.

What all do you mean? We can do welding, mandrel bending, etc. Let me know what you're thinking!

you can see all the pics i took from here:

http://ricermath.com/injection.htm i think that's about all you would need?.. can i get a free one now ?

where the piping comes up through the fenderwell is going to be the most tricky part because of the size/shape limitations and twists in the tubing.

Dumb question, but what happens in the winter when the water freezes?? I guess this type of set-up is not intended for this type of climate. Is there a shut off for the water tube from the reservoir so if you wanted to use it for its original purpose (windshield washer fluid) you could? Sorry for all the dumb questions. It looks like interesting that's all.

Thanks for the pics! A short ram intake looks very possible, but I'm not too sure about the Cold Air version...that looks like it would take some serious work...

And by the way, yes, we do exhaust.

Looking more closely at the pics, would it be possible to just attach a cone filter to the end of the tubing that extends behind the splash guards and get rid of the airbox altogther? Would this not achieve a sort of cold air, more direct flow? Just wondering. It looks like a lot of work to fabricate a CAI to fit into this tight spot. I'm not a fan of short-rams personally.

I was thinking the same exact thing. It looks possible, but I'm not too positive on it...

the AIT sensor is mounted ON the airbox, there's no way to move it to the piping. this is why alot of people are having issues with trying to get something made. it's not as easy to slap on some new piping and filter and call it a day as some people think.

i made a cai for the car it only replaces the airbox and has a mounting point for the sensor on the pipe its made out of 3" pipe and connects the the rubber pipe were the box was attached to, ive been driving like this for about 2 months, no problems. i will get some pics tomorrow the way its made you wont need any r&d, i feel the whole rubber piping doesnt need to be replaced its not restrictive at all, maybe for cosmetics

Cool man. How did you attach the sensor though?

Yeah, we're releasing a new one. I admit, that one was a piece ...unfortunately. Our new one wont throw any codes, check engine lights, cause the motor to bog down, etc.
