Blew my axles tonight...
Well finally got the car running with 2.7, 60 pounders, full bolt ons, and a tune well went to the track went through the burnout process and tried to drop clutch at 2900 on street tires (hanooks) and pop went my driver side axle. Now the deal is this I had some clicking determined to be coming from my splines documented from gm about two months ago do you think this could have been the root of my situation or do you think it was just to much power? The car also has the G-85 package so I'm kind of confused b/c there was another cobalt ss at the track with same shizit as me but without header and cat running 13.54 at 105.12 dropping at 3500 with G85 on the same lane and track! Just my bad luck I guess anyways where can I get these 400hp axles for a good price?
That sucks man..I can't think of what site for the life of me..Hit up our vendors list, there is a site on their that has a good deal on em.
That clickin that was heard may have been the beggining of them going. Some people have that kind of luck, **** happens ya know

He was at the track. He warmed his tires up in the burnout pit, and when he popped the clutch after the light changed, he broke his axle.. Just think, if he had drags on there, he wouldn't have made it through the burnout pit.
All you should do on street tires is go around the water box, line up, rev up and side step enough to spin the tires a bit to get all the dirt off of them, then proceed to stage.
Nope. All he was doing is dragging water to the starting line. Do everyone a favor if you are on street tires go around the water box, not "burnout pit".

Not to mention, not all dragstrips have room for you to "Go around" the burnout pit. I'm not sure if this one did or not, but I know for sure that the strip out my way does not. Atco Raceway, just in case you were also wondering so that you can't say that it's some po-dunk track either.
Okay Mr. I know everything about everything...If he was draggin water to the starting line, then he would not have broke his axle, his tires would have spun and he would have not gotten the traction that he needed to break that der axle.

Actually if he didn't spin them enough he could have water on only parts of his tires and that would easily rip up axles.
I didn't mean to start anything. Everyone who I've talked to with experience, and everything I've read about dragging has always told me not to do a burnout with street tires
ATCO is one of the Top rated quarter mile dragstrips in the country, Lame you say. HA!
There is no other way to get on the track at ATCO, there isn't a way around the water pit. Everything is fenced off, and their are spectator seats pretty much right next to the track. Hmmm, not much knowledge about that track huh??
Truth be told, our axles are a bit stronger then people think. Yes, they are tappered down and yes they are known for breaking, but not till puttin down some pretty serious numbers. Hell, DTM has 271hp and about 264ish tq to the wheels and he hasn't even done axle upgrades as of yet.
Anywayz..it happened, he broke his axle and needs a new set. No point in arguing or talking about how he should have done this or he should have done that. Intense has a Stg2 set of axles..
You're correct, you're not supposed to do a burnout with street tires. They have tread for that reason. Either way, the burnout isn't where he broke his axle, it was grabbing some good traction at the starting line when dropping the clutch. **** happens, kinda sucks. Which is why I am avoiding the track until I upgrade mine.

me too
LOL..Yeah, other then the upgrades that are on my plate now, I need exhaust BAD, then it's axles, clutch and flywheel. So yeah, I can't afford to break my axles as of now. Hopefully Glock has some loot to play with.
Does it really matter how he broke them or why they broke....? The answer is simple. Our cars are not meant for the DragStrip. GM did not create this car to become its next drag car. It was designed for road courses and that is where it belongs. I have yet to take mine to the strip and might never do it. But SMSP (Sandia Motorsports Park *roadcourse*) is right around the corner from where I live and you better believe my car is gonna see more of that track than most of you guys will any dragstip.
If you don't want to break axles then....
STOP TRYING TO LAUNCH THE DAMN CAR!!!!

This car is diverse. It has the potential to be anything from a daily gas saver, to a road track racer to a car that pulls good times at the track. It's all in preperation and how you
drive it.
You will break things even driving at a road course man, which is why GM has aftermarket, stronger knuckles..Either way you look at it, you need to pay to play.
drive it.

I understand this, but I see more 100x more posts about the damn axles breaking due to launches then I ever see about anything dealing with roadcourse or auto-x which is where this car excels.
Keep in mind that there are quite a few youngins that drive this car and all they want to do is go straight really really fast. LOL!! Not all, but that's where it's at, ya know. I my self like a very well rounded vehicle, but..I'm also almost 27.
Guys thanks for everything to clear something up here I'm no track rookie I know to avoid the water pit if possible, but the hillbilly running the hose last night got carried away and watered the whole thing also I have had this car at this track at least a dozen times before and never had problems. I do have money if I need to play with it but as for now I am trying to get it warrantied my dealer is pretty nice. If they can my ideal is to have gm put the new axles in the car anyone know an install time?

its not water, they dont use water beucase it doesnt evaporate fast enough, its some kind of chemical, I know some people have used bleach before and ran it thrught the windsheild washer fulid lines plugged off the ones to spray the windsheild and ran lines into the wheel wells to do it on the street, pontless if you ask me, but its a good idea, lol

all the tracks I have been too used some kind of chemical not water becuase the water doesnt evaporate fast enough if you doo drag it to othe line,
never seen the hosebefore though

wut kinda of mounts do u have on the car...stock mounts? umm yeah cobalts suck at the track. by me lets see we had 3 broken cobalts when we went to the track..all with similar mods to u. boom. broken axels, broken trannies. all due to the track. 2 cars were with LSD. they had broken driver side axels, and one was non lsd, with a crack in the tranny. car got stuck in 2nd or 3rd. they all had better mounts for runnin on the track. those poly mounts. we all worked with cobalt addiction from gettin all this stuff, cuz they are very local to us. we had 6 cars go. we managed to fix and swap a axel from one car fixin one lsd ss and 2 go driven home by the tow. it sucked. also one guy who went there...3 weeks later blew his engine..and the one that we fixed blew his too. due to all this crazy moddin. it sucks man. and GM covered nothing..except the 2 cars that blown engine. my buddy got new axels for this car and the other got a new rebuilt tranny that we put in. so yeah be safe. i feelur pain bro. it sucks
PS: they all went back to stock too. took off all the mods. and thats wut happened.

yea i have zz performance mounts and a torque brace. I'm just saying that I was coming home from work and at the light I tried to go but it just free reved and popped something. I'm going to say I think it was the shifter cable coming out,
lol,

It is definently not bleach and any that does use bleach is a complete tard and should be cut out of the gene pool.
Other than that I have never been to a track where it was NOT water. They MIGHT mix something into it to help it evaporate, but I doubt it.
