LOOK FOR NEW PICS


well yesterday i was driving back to california from houston. i was coming up on the town of sorona, tx. well it was me driving, my girlfriend in the passenger seat, and my sister in the back. it was wet due to the off/on light rain. we were all wearing are seat belts. but heres the story. driving along and the car starts to hydroplane and then the car starts to slide off the road and into the gravel/mud and was headed for the rock wall. (the rock wall was from a hill that they had carved out and put a road in the between) i knew we were going to hit the rock wall and decided to take the initial blow and turned the wheel to the right. i dont remember anything after this except i was in the hospital getting stitches in my hand. but from what i have been told. after the car had stopped my gf and sis looked over at me and thought i was dead. then they said i came too and looked at them and asked them if they were alright then jumped out of the car and looked at the damage and yelled "OMG LOOK AT MY CAR" the cop kept yelling at me to get back in the car. then they said i would wait 30 secs and do it again. they said i did this a good 5-6 times. then they were telling me that i looked at them and yelled "who the hell was driving my car" and "what had happend". well all in all we are alright i had to get stitches in my hand after they removed the glass from it and i have some cuts and scratches from head butting the driver side window (like a ninja ) gf has a knot on the top of her foot and my sis just had a bump on her head.

the damage so far is as listed:
back totaled
driver side totaled
supercharger totaled (peices of it were scattered about)
engine totaled
transmission totaled
axels snapped
the passenger rear tire is backwards like the chrome wheel was facing the car
but the weirdest part was the air bags diddnt go off. the insurance claim adjuster said we might have a case against chevy. i am aware of the recall they had but from my understanding it was just for the 05 and 06 not the 07's. i was trying to talk to the claim adjuster into letting me keep the recaros. she said no and the car is more than likely be totaled i spent the whole day before i left cleaning and polishing and waxing my car before i left. i thanked God for watching over us yesterday.

Glad you're all alright. The car can be replaced. That's great to see everyone walked away! Sorry for your loss though...

should have said there aftermarket and dindt come with the car so you would like to have them back :P

Sorry to hear abou that, and i am glad that you all are ok. For the airbag situation since you turned your car so that you would take the blow you may have not hit so much in the front and more on the side/front. This happened to me in my old Honda when a guy ran a stop sign. Since he hit the right side/front before the wheel the bag didnt go off since its a more side impact. Your car is a SS/SC with the low profile spoiler from what i can see and i am not sure exactly if you have the full airbag system or just the front ones. But DEF check into it fully, i just wanted to let you know that if you didnt.

Damn man, good to hear your alright.

Theres certain conditions where air bags won't go off, like if the car is hit at just the right angle on the side or w/e. That might have been a part of the problem.

And the recall was only for the 05/06 without side impact air bags

 

Damn man that looks like it hurt as bad as my last accident. Good luck you will definately get some money to fix your car and maybe some to put towards a house at least that's what i did with my money.

 

just got off the phone with the claim adjuster and he just told me that the car IS a total loss

Thankfully your alright, all of you!!! Lucky that wall was there and built like it was, hate to have seen if it wasn't.. I'm surprised you don't have side air bags.. But ya again good to know your all right.. R.I.P. little Cobalt

You know what happened to my mom. She was driving my dad's 06 Ranger, back end slid out. Went in the ditch, hit a bunch of trees 18k of damage and no ******* bags.

 

sue the everloving **** outta them. i am 100% against frivolous lawsuits. this one coulda ended your life.

 

Don't get sue happy yet until you know how airbags work. If the angle you hit the wall was greater then 30 deg from center in either direction they will not go off. Airbags are also based on how fast you deaccelerated. If the deacceleration was to slow it, it would not got off. Most of this will get taken into account in a case and they will pull the blackbox, I think there on the cobalts, if present.
