Thumbs down No cobalt mid cycle enhancement for 2008. cobalt name may be dropped...

I know it blows but we've been debating this on GMI for a few days now. Thought I'd post it on CSS.net and see what all of you think? Chevy will still have a small car but rumor is GM might drop the name, I hope they don't as I see brand/name equity in it and believe it isn't tarnished like Grand Am, Vega, or Cavalier were as they all were left out to wilt.

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=44332

also, the original story link from auto blog.

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/02/n...e-enhancement/

I read by a GMI'er that is a dealer I believe, that the dealerworld dealer book comes out on the 5th and we shall know then whether or not the Cobalt gets updated (save sheetmetal) and power upgrades (finally no more bitching about an 08 Turbo vs. S/C vs. no boost option for a year) etc.
EDIT: here is the website for what I'm talking about above: http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/dom...ID=1&year=2008
mind you this is what I HEARD, not a guarantee.

There also may be a Delta 2 based Cobalt replacement on the horizon maybe 2 years out, based on Saturn ASTRA...check it out and as much as I love the Cobalt, the ASTRA inside and out is 10x better as a daily driver car styling wise save for SS-S/C IMHO.

Discuss and enjoy the Superbowl!

SO the mystery about the famous SCvsTurVS nothing will be known on the 5th of this month??

Either way, lambo doors on a stock GM car would be sick like the commercial shows!! I would have to trade in this old beast for a new one!

I believe GM sold like 211k cobalts last year so definitely respective but by no means booming. Think Civic, think 300k+ sales. I hope they don't drop the name as non-car buyers are just now starting to recognize what a "Cobalt" is aside from a headache in Chemistry class

but why, there is no reason to take a high performance version of a particular model without replacing it right there

This is ridiculous. First because autoblog did not recognize the SEMA wide body cobalt and second because there is so many arguments over this topic. The Cobalt will not be re-named and or dropped.

I have heard that too. Chevy will have a compact car, but who knows if it will be called Cobalt, I hope it does though. It'd be nice if GM just would have product planned appropriately and got a seamless transition to this car.

I heard the 09 Cobalts will all be hybrids like the Volt concept car currently making the rounds on the car shows. And there will be no more 2-doors. And by 2011 it will be replaced entirely with a Chinese car.

Wow I can speculate as well as anyone else.

Hmmm...

honda civic been around since the 70's....already known

Cobalt been around since 2005....getting known...

A 98K car gap is pretty respectable when the civic has been out forever

wasnt this a previous topic somewhere else? and didnt someone else actually end up posting and mention that they were moving the manufacturing facility to mexico or something and NOT CANCELLING THE COBALT?

regarding the turbo for 08, or 09, or ever, everyone had to know that gm manufacturing a new ecotec was going to have these damn forum rumors starting, i bet every god damn forum for every car with any form of the ecotec engine has threads about "rumors for turbo"

I don't, I'm just relaying what I heard from some guys that seemed to be on top of their stuff from the conversation Blown 4-banger and myself had with them. I would prefer to keep the supercharged design because I dislike turbos.

it will be HUGE news when any kind of decision is made about a turbo in the cobalt, or any car other than the solstice and sky.

All i know is that Saturn is getting the Opel AStra badged as a Saturn. Guess what drive train that has. 2.0 turbo with a 6 speed. I could see a future spot for that motor elsewhere as well.

well if thats all you know then you know nothing factual.

The 2008 astra, in north american trim will be a 1.8 l ecotec at 140 hp and in a 5b speed, the turbo version will evetually come, but in time....like all good things.
