COMETIC HEAD GASKET for SS/SC

I was doing some price researching and found out that Cometic has up on their site, head gaskets for the 2.0 now. So, no more ordering the 2.2 head gaskets. Here's the link...

http://www.cometic.com/sportcompact.aspx

I don't remember anyone posting about this already being done and up for sale so, hopefully not a re-post. Good news none the less.

Bump

Oh cool, I met the owner of Cometic (they are from Cleveland) and he didn’t say anything.

He started a small business and it just exploded on him. They even have a race car sponsored this year.
Anything that you guys want me to ask the owner? I am in contact with him.

That's damn good news. I'm just happy to know that we have a head gasket specific for the 2.0 now, instead of having to worry bout if the 2.2 gasket is the same or not.

I knew that there was talk about it coming out, but I had not seen anything showing that it was available as of yet, which is why I posted the link.

Yeah I'm just glad they recognize the 2.0's as being a different engine now.

Yea, get a group buy on this. I would like to upgrade my head gasket just in case. I'm guessing it is a copper gasket or something? Can take much more abuse...I have to click on the link but I'm to lazy lol. j/k

I have this gasket sitting in my garage. There is virtually no difference in this and the GM stock one. They are both multi layer steel. The LSJ Cometic one is not coated in Viton and both (stock and cometic lsj) are .027" thick. The Cometic L61 one is .040" thick and supposedly Viton coated.

Thats some good info. No differance means pointless inless you blow a head gasket right...maybe its cheaper than the GM.

I've never seen a MLS head gasket that was blown honestly. Everyone I've seen was stock head bolts actually stretching and pulling the head away from the deck. The head gasket will then leak between the layers. I just witnessed this on WSFrazier's car. Stick with head studs and you'll be fine.

Edit: Cometic LSJ head gasket cost me 97.85 shipped direct from them.

So why even buy this if they are exactly like GM gaskets?

If there were no difference from the stock head gasket then I wouldn't think anyone would make an aftermarket gasket. These are 87mm bore, I wonder if that makes any difference

Its a replacement, not necessarily an upgrade. The Cometic one is just three layers of steel held together with brass rivets. I'm throwing pistons, balance shafts, custom cams and a full valvetrain in my car in about week, I'll post pics of the Cometic vs. GM one when I remove it.

Sounds good man. I'm still trying to decide if I should do head gaskets and studs for my Cam and valve spring install.

I'm convinced that the head studs are a must for this engine.

I unerstand this is a old post but there are three owners of Cometic.
You most likely talked to BG (Spot).
They are very high end and can make customs of different materials and thicknes almost over night.
I Know all three owners and worked for two of them in the past.
They are in my old hood East of Cleveland the mistake by the lake. jk jk jk

gonna bump bc of recent issues

People who have replaced their headgaskets with cometic have been blowing them out. If you don't have a engine build use the gm headgasket. Both headgaskets are MLS (Multi-Layered-Steel) so theres no point in buying cometic if your just swapping on a stock build head included.
