Rear sway bar during wet/icey driving conditions
Rear sway bar during wet/icey driving conditions
Does an aftermarket rear sway bar negatively effect handling on wet/icey roads? Will it make you more prone to lose traction and slip around? In theory, it might cuz it eliminates understeer...just curious, as my friend would like a rear sway bar for his Cobalt, but in MA there's lotsa nasty weather.
I havent had any problems with mine and I couldn't Imagine the car w/o it. My Coby handles the snow great w/ snow tires this morning it snowed and before works I was ebrake sliding all over the park and ride parking lot.
There isn't much more fun you can have in life than ebrake sliding a fwd car w/ snow tires and some nut.

I think it just eliminates understeer by balancing the weight more evenly across the tires. This should give you more grip in all situations, so if anything I would think it would help your traction, not hurt it.
A lot of people think that because you have a rear sway that you can take corners faster, even in the snow and rain. As long as you don't believe that and drive just as careful, or a bit more with the rear sway than you would without one, you should be fine. Yes it will change the handling charactersitics and yes the back end will be more willing to come around, but again just keep it safe and you should be fine.
