Is this a good deal for the Cobalt SS??
Is this a good deal for the Cobalt SS??
Hey there
I have a GTP right now, and i am selling it to buy a Cobalt SS.
the dealership has one right by me.....
2006 Black with black/black interior... 5900 miles.... FULLY loaded minus heated seats....
http://jerryhaggertychevrolet.com/us...a078a2a&bhcp=1
it has the LSD and Recaro racing seats.... they said they will add teh heated seats INTO the recaro for free..... The warranty is 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper and 5yr/60,000 powertrain.
I drove it today and it was pretty stout.... reminds me of my GTP
the sticker on the car was $19,4xx
I talked him down initially to $19k just by asking him how low he can go.
im fairly confident that i can throw $18,500-$18,700 in his face and tell him i will take it today and he will say yes....
Is that a good offer???
BTW here is a shot of my GTP...

thanks in advance fellas

That's a nice looking GTP.
On the warranty, the 07's have a 100,000 powertrain, not sure if that'd be worth paying a bit more - but you can definitely find a 2.4 L SS for about that price, and probably even a 2.0 for under 20k no problem - you could finance it out so your payments were about the same, plus you typically get a much lower interest rate on a new car anyhow.. just ideas.
How exactly are the planning to install heaters into the recaros?
Honestly I wouldn't go above 17,500 for it and some guys here may still say that's high?
By the way - welcome to the site. Regardless of what model year and model you opt for, I'm sure you'll find a lot of help.

Haha, I just noticed it had those god damned stickers on it that they sell on eBay "warning, this car is blah blah awesome". I wonder if the dealer took pics thinking they were actually supposed to be there..

That's $500 off right there.

i also kinda need tips on how to talk down salesmen... lol
for the heated seats.. they are just inserting the heated pad insterts into the seats, like any other shop would install them

Where would they put your controls for them?
Best way to talk down salemen? Go in there like you don't give a ****. Be really nice to them, and joke and have a good time, but act like you really don't care if you buy the car or not, be honest with them about your financial situation, tell them that you've already got a loan approval for XX amount, point out things wrong with the car..
Read over this site - http://www.carbuyingtips.com/ - I did and it saved me quite a bit I think.
You thinking about trading in the GTP or keeping it?

Be in control. Know what you're talking about. Offer to leave, make them beg for your services, otherwise they'll sap you! Don't seem nervous or like you haven't done this before.
^^ Good info, also don't be afraid to bring somebody else with you. In fact, do bring someone else with you, your boss, your dad or grandad - anyone who the salesmen will respect but has no vested interest in what you're doing.
To me heated seats are useless if you dont drive the car in the winter
Plus we all know Cobalt SS\Sc are not good in snow with stock tires
If it was me id pass on the heated seat and cut some money off price too
IMO
Good luck
Ps your not trading in that Pontiac i hope that car is real nice and they wont give you what you want for it either

guess you never heard of heated seat inserts??? they are VERY common as an aftermarket mod... its the SAME EXACT thing that comes stock on every "heated seat" car.
im not trading in the GTP... they will give me what.. like $4k??? haha yea right.. my car is too modded for them to buy anyways...
and the cobalt will be my DD, so i would prefer heated seats.
the location of the heater seat switches will be where the FACTORY heated seat switches are for the SS (for the ones that DO come with heated seats).... where else? lol Right under the Radio/Tuner knobs
see it here...

**edit.. to clarify confusion...
it will be FACTORY heated seats... i talked to the service/salesperson manager.. and he said it can be done.

What kind of interest rate are you looking at?
The best thing you can ever possibly do is get pre-approval before you go in there from your bank or a national bank.
If you are relying on a dealer to give you used car financing, just prepare to get fucked.
If you walk in with a check from Capital One for $17k, you will leave with that car for $17k.

Haha, well, get a copy of your credit report NOT from freecreditreport.com and see what your score is, then that should give you a pretty good idea.
Seriously, check out that site I linked, I know at first it looks like a jumble of disambigulated bullshit but it's really very helpful.

If I were you I would ask yourself if you really need all that extra stuff. You could get a brand new 07 for 21k. No options added of course, but it all depends on what you want/need. Also I'd be kinda wary about having them "install heated seats". It wont be like it should be from the factory. And buying used sports cars can be a bad idea too.
i payed 18999 for my 06 ss sc. it had 15k on it, normal seats, pioneer 7 speaker system or whatever and that was it. so id say thats a hell of a deal. the dealer by me want 26,500 for the same kind ur describing and it had 12k on it
used for 5k miles... ill take my chances
warranty FTW
im a man of options... i love options... my GTP is FULLY loaded... leather.. heated seat... HUD.. sunroof...
thats just how i am
to be honest.. i really DONT want to spend over 20k on a car.
and the ONLY cobalt i will buy is the Supercharged model.

I hope you live on the border and this is Canadian dollars. You can get an SS Impala with a lot of options for about that.
Yeah, but did any of the Recaro's come with heated seats? I thought that wasn't even an option...
I think you'll have no problem getting them down to a number you're comfortable with, and if you're okay with 18,5 that's not bad, I mean over a 4 year loan you're talking about a difference of a few dollars a month.
