Headlights

Looking for some "super white" headlights. I do not want a blue tint or anything but rather pure white.

Ant suggestions?

Adam.

Super Vision High Intensity Discharge kit

I just installed the "Super Vision High Intensity Discharge" system into my Cobalt ss/sc yesterday! It is a 9007 bulb @ 6000k (bright white), man does it look awesome!

I would totally recommend this kit, it was very easy to install. seriously next to nothing for modifications and no extra parts necessary (no relays, capacitors, wiring) everything comes in the kit. The connectors come with the factory style weatherpacking as well.

kit has:

2x 35W High Intensity Discharge bulb assemblies
2x Ballast Assemblies
2x Ballast brackets with nuts and bolts (which you can use or you can use supplied 3M double sided foam adhesion pad)

The kit was about $350 and the install took me about 1 hour. I used the 3M adhesion pads to mount the ballasts, cleaned everything with rubbing alcohol and it worked really well. Spent most of the hour deciding where to place the ballasts under the hood, finally came up with 2 really good and dry spots for them.

The spec for the increased light output from the 35 watt XENON HID lamp is about 75% more light then the stock bulb, seems about right.

If pure white is what you are going for than a 6000k color temperature bulb is probably what you want. see, bulbs around the 4100k area are about 20% brighter than the 6000k but are not as white, so it really depends on if you want the looks (6000k) or the maximum brightness possible (a little more yellow around 4100K). The lower the color temperature you go below 6000k the more yellow the light and the higher the color temperature you go past 6000k the light will change to blue and then purple.

I bought the kit at a place called MF Technologies in Vancouver, took about 2 weeks to ship it in from the states. Good Luck!

Only downside to having a High Intensity lamp system is that the bulbs can't double as a Low/High beam. but the lamps are very bright and you can always switch back to your Halogen bulbs just by simply plugging them back in, or get a different headlamp housing with holes for 2 bulbs.

oh yeah, the only other downside are those pesky cops who might want to ticket you for running them

go buy some nice silverstars for $50 they will give you that nice pure white look.
avoid blinding the rest of us out on the road with HIDs in incorrect housings

If you do want HIDs, do lots of research on them, find out why they blind people, why they are illegal, and why they need projectors to work properly.

HID D2r type bulb without projector

The application of an HID 6000k D2r system in a Cobalt SS stock headlamp assembly through personal application, works and focuses perfectly fine without any need for a projector assembly.

The factory reflectors have a built in opaque extension which prevents any direct eye contact with the bulb which forces the released light to be focused and projected by the internal reflector just the same as the halogen light is reflected and focused, which is exactly what a D2r HID system is designed for.

As long as you have the lenses aimed correctly, the correct bulb replacement type, and choose a color temp that is not abnormal or distracting the result will turn out perfectly fine with no subsequently burned eyes or problems with police as the headlamps appear as factory equipment. As for application on a different vehicle I can't say for absolute certain that it will work as well for you, however installing this HID system on my vehicle has proven very reasonable to other drivers, it provides beneficial high intensity light output, and is cosmetically outstanding.
