Just got off the phone with Chevy.

They told me the Cobalt sedan did start production today (Oct 18th).
The coupe production starts in November and they said the SS production wont Start till February!

I’m confused about this February date because Chevy.com has the SS Supercharged listed as available late fall 04.

I asked her if the Supercharged SS starts production earlier then February, but the info she had available only listed the SS for February.

Feel free to call Chevy at (800) 222- 1020. The are very friendly

That will suck if in fact the SS S/C won't be produced until Feb.

I was hoping to have my car by Christmas.

Hell by then I should have enough money to keep my Alero and still put a nice downpayment on the Cobalt.

I am still holding onto the belief the GM website is correct about the SS S/C being ready in late fall 2004.

I think that I posted this before, but I'll say it again. I still talk to the guys at the dealership I work at during the summers, and they told me that the SS S/C I ordered for stock showed in the inventory updates as moving into the build process. For those who aren't familiar with GM's ordering system, there are quite a few steps an order has to go through before build, so it's gone through those already. If he's right, the car should be at the dealership sometime in November. I should really ask the Sales Manager, he could tell me straight up.

Yes please do ask him. I called the manager in Riverside and he told me the same thing.

SS supercharger will hit dealerships in FEB> :x

No one know anything. Guess GM sucks as far as getting their info out. Dont get me wrong I LOVE this car, but how many times are we going to go on guessing. I dont want to wait till then. And if that is the case (we have to wait till feb.) then i will find another car. FORD Mustang V6 is 20,150 with 210HP and it Looks just as great.

OK breath breath.

sorry i had a moment

I have had many e-mails back and forth with GM & Chevy. From this info I am 100% positive from these chats that the SS Supercharged Coupe WILL start in Nov. or Dec. as a 2005 model. The 2.4L SS Coupe and 2.4L SS Sedan should start in Feb. 2005 as a 2006 model.

Me too.

I just talked to the guys back at my dealership, and they told me that the SS S/C that I built back in August now has a hold on it. Damn you GM, give us an explanation!

heres my beef...i sent off for the cobalt brochure and crap and it came in today. theres a smaller little handout that comes with it in the package that on the back says (in the biggest letters on the whole page) "THE ALL-NEW CHEVY COBALT SS SUPERCHARGED COUPE. COMING FALL 2004." its got a great picture of the interior on it though thats better than the one thats on the site...shows off the placement of the boost gauge nicely...

It's very possible this is a simple misunderstanding. Considering all the commercials, magazines and online advertising (all clearly saying Fall 204 for the SS S/C model) it seems this can be summed up as a miscommunication. Perhaps the people at the dealership are grouping all the SS models. Not understanding that the 2.4L SS will be produced at a later date, vs. the S/C version being produced, as advertised, in Fall of 2004.

Even if this is the case (having to wait until Feb)...the car is worth it. Yes, you can choose to take your money elsewhere..get the V6 Mustang...but if you have a working/running car now..and can wait..I say wait. You'll look back in a year or so with a smile knowing your patience paid off. The fact is..we're apparently getting the run-around about the Cobalt SS (S/C) right now..so the best we can do is either keep calling, keep trying..or be patient and wait through this season and see what happens.

Car design and production isn't a small task. There are numerous phases and steps that have to take place for the car to even be approved for production. Many safety tests, durability tests, road tests, etc. I think I speak for many, if not all of us here by saying that the Cobalt SS is beautiful and more refined than most in its class.

So..be patient and be confident that this car WILL be produced. And evaluate your decision(s) before making the choice to go elsewhere with your money. [/soapbox]

Hi guys, new to the site today. :P
True the Coupe SS starts production late November. The will also have a "Tuner" version similar to the redline Saturn Ion out soon after, with Recarro Racing seats.

Saw a first off "Tuner" in MI. It's planned to have limited slip differential, large brakes, carbon fiber dash and intieror including racing style seats. Not sure if it will be called "SS-Redline or not. I'll keep everyone "in the in".

Hmmmmm... I don't care about carbon fiber, or recaro seats for that matter if they don't look as good as the normal SS seats, but an LSD and bigger brakes.... interesting. I wonder why there are no other rumours at all going around about it, GM usually sucks at keeping a tight lid on plans.
