Borla vs. Corsa
Borla vs. Corsa
I just stopped by a local performance shop and while there I discussed my recent purchase of the GMPP touring exhaust with the owner. He mentioned that the exhaust used to be made by Corsa, but now GM is going through Borla. He told me that if I could, I should find one that was made by Corsa. When I got home, my package was waiting for me, and when I opened it up, I noticed that the diagram had "Borla" written on it. My question is, should I return the system and get one made by Corsa, or is there literally no difference between the two? The reason I am asking is that the owner and his business are very reputable and I trust his judgement. I'm kind of stuck on this one, but I can be patient and wait for a while before I decide what to do. Thanks ahead for the imput.
The difference is not enough to make up for the cost increase. Stick with your GMPP/Borla and get some other go fast goodies with the $275+ dollars you save by doing so. Corsa is a 2.5" and GMPP/Borla is a 2.25" and unless your going to be pushing pretty high numbers 275hp+ You wont gain anything from the Corsa.
I was going to get Borla but ended up with Corsa. The in-car noise (or lack there of) is what convinced me to get Corsa. I hear my blower whine in the car more than exhaust. Of course I got the touring. Drive around normally and you wouldn't know you had an after market exhaust but WOT it's different story.

Thanks for the input so far.
Maybe I confused people. What I was told was that the GMPP exhausts were made by Corsa previously, but then GM switched to Borla for production. Is there any difference between the "old" GMPP exhausts and the "new" ones. I'm not considering going with the "actual" Corsa, I will be getting the GM touring. Does that make more sense? Thanks again.

Well I just got an e-mail back from Crate Engine Depot concerning this, and this is what it said:
Hi Joel,
Although Corsa does make a touring exhaust system as well as a sport system it was never made for GMPP.
GM accessories did use Corsa for their vendor for a few years but it was before the Cobalt came out. Keep in mind that this had nothing to do with GMPP.
Both systems are quite nice using high quality stainless steel. I have heard both and they are very close in sound. If I had to rate both systems the Corsa is probably a small step above the Borla, but I don't think its that big of a differance nor would I pay the differance. Like I said both systems are of very high quality.
Well if that didn't confuse you... let me know if you have any other questions.
thanks for the email, it was a good question.
Tom
That cleared up a few things. I can't wait to install my cat-back now; thanks Tom!
BTW, the stainless tip that comes with it looks so huge next to the stock 2.2 one: massive improvement!

you know...the way i see it, no matter whos bending the pipes, theyre still just bent pipes. all that matters is the type of material (both use T304), the type of bends (both use mandrel bends), and the diameter (2.25 vs 2.5)
No, I have the Corsa Touring exhaust. I've heard cars with the GMPP performance exhaust (performance = sport) and its much quieter than my Corsa.
In a few days I'll have the GMPP touring and will let you all know the differences on sound.
As I said in my last post, Corsa's quality is amazing, I just hope the GMPP quality is as nice.

Ok, just to update this post for future reference, I finally have the GMPP touring exhaust on and wow what a difference. As for power, probably about the same. As many people have shown, mathematically the 2.25 exhaust is more than adequatefor our hp levels, not to mention the stock cat, dp and manfold.
The car is much quieter and has a better "quality" of sound. The only thing I can relate it to is farts, you know when you have a real nasty one that you hear the butt cheeks flapping against each other? I'd equate that to what the Corsa sounds like, that flapping. At higher RPMs you hear it more. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't sound ricey and honestly has a decent tone to it but you still hear that sound which I absolutely hate, reminds me of civics. The GMPP Touring is a bit quieter with more of a mellow tone. It's an upgraded exhaust with a bit more sound but overall it does not hurt your ears and when the windows are up, you barely notice you have a different exhaust. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for. A good performance gain with the minimum of sound.
As for quality, just looking under the car real quick, the Corsa was definately a better quality than the GMPP. The GMPP is not bad, I've seen tons worse but overall the Corsa wins this one, hands down.
So that's my comparison, straight from someone who had both exhausts on the car on the same day even. I'm glad I made the switch.
