Stock Sway Bar Sizes

Does anyone know what the stock sway bar sizes are for the 07 SS/SC Cobalt. If you know the other ones you can post too for others!

FE1 suspension – standard on LS, LT and LTZ models, it provides a smooth ride and includes a 19-mm front stabilizer bar and a 16-mm rear stabilizer bar

FE3 suspension – standard on SS models, it delivers a firmer, more direct ride and includes 22-mm front and rear stabilizer bars, four-wheel disc brakes, monotube shocks and 17-inch wheels and performance tires

FE5 suspension – standard on the SS Supercharged, it was developed on the racetrack to deliver sports car levels of handling and grip; 24-mm front stabilizer bar and 22-mm rear stabilizer bar, higher-rate springs and bushings, four-wheel disc brakes, monotube shocks and 18-inch forged aluminum wheels with performance tires.

The site that i got this is http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z9895/default.aspx

yea this information is off of a concept page. The front bar information is correct but i think when production came GM got rid of all of the rear bars because my LS didn't have one either

Its not a traditional removable sway bar in the rear.

The axle you have is the bar your stuck with unless you swap the whole thing for the one of another suspension series.

If you go under the rear, the beam axle where all the circular holes are, up inside that you'll see a rod, thats the sway bar, its welded in.

All you can do is add to the stock axle with a *insert brand here* add on bar. Or as I said swap an LS for and SS/SC axle, or if you have an SS, get and add on bar.

I was wondering if that may be the bar because the aftermarket one bends up into that area. However i am thinking about getting the SS front bar for my LS

Getting just the front SS/SC bar with no additional rear bar will cause the following.

Positives:
Reduce body roll decelerating or coasting through turns.

Negitives:
Stiffens the front so much, but the back being soft, has the tendancy to lift the front inside tire.... LOADS of wheel spin while turning, when hard on the throttle.

Ok so to clarify what is in my car. I have a 2007 Cobalt SS Supercharged with the LSD something about sport suspension on the window sticker. So I have a 22mm front and a ??mm rear? And I should get a bigger rear only or what else??

Unless youre going to do autocross with an SS/SC, adding a rear bar is going to make the rear tires get to their maximum grip quicker. However espically in wet condiditons, once you exceed maximum grip you may find yourself going the wrong end first. Drive smart and know the limits of the car.

If you add a rear bar and drive the same corners faster cause it turns flatter, doesnt mean its going to react the same when the tires let go.

So what ur saying is to just leave the suspension alone. I know on my old car It was a grand prix gtp I put a bigger rear bar and the car cornered a lot better but I added a rear strut and front strut bars that thing was a tank entering a corner anyways. I didn't know I see a bunch of people talking about strut bars and rear bars mainly. So, I was just trying to find out the skinny on what would make this car stick really good and turn in some hard cornering on the streets. I have some nice roads around here to hit!

GM spent Millions in R&D on the suspension to get it do what it does, Unless you have a reason to change it (like and LS the rolls like a mother), you're spending money to spend money. Evaluate risk and reward, does all that add up, to dump it in a ditch. Speaking from personal experience with a telephone pole ass first. With the SS, lower it and you're golden.

Heres and example this past weekend at the autocross:

Best time was: 99 Mazda Miata 53.318

My time with my mods: 07 Chevrolet Cobalt 59.490

A Tech I work with, runnin Bone Stock with Racing Slicks: 07 Chevrolet Cobalt 60.985

heres the link of the results so im not B.S'n

you have to understand the theories behind suspension setup are as vast and different as are drivers, thats because different drivers prefer different setups. i myself prefer slight oversteer for autox because the speeds arent that high and the danger levels are low. if i were on a full road coarse id opt for neutral to slight understeer characteristics. with a larger rear sway bar on a base model which is my current setup as long as you dont try anything stupid you shouldnt get into trouble at normal highway speeds, if youre doing 100+mph be careful a jab at the brakes or a quick lane change could be the begining of a very bad moment in your life. if you do start skidding you have two options push the clutch and brake in and hope for the best or downshift, point the tires in the direction you want to go and floor the gas. the best thing you can do for handling is tires, sticky sticky tires.

bluebalt, given the choice would you stick with the prokit for autox, or wish you had the sportlines? Given the balance of daily drive and autox. Springs are my next move and KW's are still outta price range.

I know I can go research this, but I figure I would just ask for myself. What would you recommend for springs then??

Confucius say, eibach.

With the SS/SC, Pro-kit levels it out, Sportlines drop it. 1 to 2 depending on the weight in your car, speakers, tools, junk, ect.

It really depends again on what youre doing with it, if youre going to load with with speakers and amps and such you dont want the lowest spring you can buy cause you'll bottom out more frequently.

the SCC springs seem to have recived positive reviews.

Haven't seen anything on the H&R's
