I still wouldn't recommend it, but a built third gen chevy is pretty cheap to do, certainly FAR, FAR under $75k.
Right now the L92 heads are the big thing because they outflow every head on the market except the LS7 head, and actually, they outflow the LS7 head when at or under .500 lift.
Fully Assembled, they are $441 each on crate engine depot.
A nice 4" stroke billet crank is $3500 or so,
the rest of the parts are pretty much peanuts other than whatever FI method you choose.
Point being, the GT500 is a nice car, but the modular Ford isn't all that special. And I'd spend $48k better than a stock GT500.
PS- LS7 Crate engine at crateenginedepot $12,995 + freight.
A KB GT500 costs more than a Z06, lol. LOL, ok, not quite. Anywho, Lingenfelter performance has been putting down 800whp on stock longblock LS1's for years.

you forgot about dealer mark up.. probably 10k right there, so refigure for 58k for a stock gt500 ( handles like **** BTW)

still a sick car. im not a huge ford fan, but you cant argue with 700 something horses, heck, 500 hp from the stock car is wicked too!! if you hate on either of those cars you are not a car enthusiast, because both demand some respect.
just thought i might mention that a z06 with no mods, other than drag radials, ran a 10.8 in the 1/4
-former mustang owner. -and what a sloppy slug it was

For all the nut swingers
MSRP of the most expensive car is top spending..no markups on either car...you can ALWAYS find a car at MSRP or under...esp a mustang or a corvette or a viper (quite possibly the dumbest arguement ever...the markup)
Stock bottom end vs stock bottom end
2007 vs 2007 model yr...were not talking built other model yrs
Were talking if I had the price of a new z06 to spend and didnt care about warranty...I could go this fast for msrp of z06 or this fast...the mustang will confidently run laps and be significantly faster in a straight line...not to mention will out handle a camaro or mustang or trans am and come in damn close to a stock ls2 corvette
When was the last time ur racing story started well i followed this corvete up into he mountains and we were side b sde neck and neck on the 2 lane road (not to mention most decent roads are 1 lane each direction)
understeer in a 700hp rwd car is impossible...throttle control much

djt - You're a car enthusiast, too. Why the hell do you car about MY 2007 versus MY 2007?
GM's engine's don't hold up stock as well because they KNOW exactly what they want them to be able to endure and use the quality of components they can get away with, not the best they could have. That's pretty common practice in a world were a cost reduction is EXPECTED year after year, even though the price of materials and labor goes up, year after year.
That said, there are 1200 horse Turbo LS1's out there on stock longblocks.
That car that was DISCONTINUED because it didn't meet minimum safety requirements a year after it was designed supercar, lol.

as far as the markup...
Manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price. we mark up Z06's all the time here. it happens. people pay it. i dont think you've ever worked in the car business.. cause you can not get a z06 for msrp or less anywhere on the east coast right now. i just looked it up on our virtual inventory. i assume the east cost trend holds true throughout the country.

I don't think they'd ever require a car to have a cage from the factory, lol. But, if you want to talk about MSRP and markup, we still have a 2005 GT on the showroom floor right now. MSRP is $166k, yet, it could be yours for only $220k, lol. Yes, it has been here a while, no I don't think it'll be leaving any time soon. Oh yeah, I'm in Wisconsin. Other than Special edition or limited edition cars, cars don't sell for over MSRP often, but those rare ones don't sell for near MSRP hardly ever.

thats nice... did it have a cage? cause otherwise it would get thrown off the track..
