rubbing with stock wheels and tires

When i have the wheels turned all the way to the right the left front rubs on the fender liner...I have a Fujita CAI that might be causing it but if i go wider rims will the offsets keep it from rubbing?

how do you figure your intake is causing your tires to rub against the fender ???? And your stock wheels shouldnt rub the fender but it will cut it close , i just put 235 40 18 Dunlop Super sport Dot Compounds On and mine BARELY rub the fender , **** the tire barely even fit my stock rim , looks like ive got a drop in the front

the intake fit so tight in there i think the fender liner is buldging a little. If i got wheels 8 in wide would the wheel offset keep the tire from rubbing

Ok... so 1st off, what model are you running??? SS, LT, SS/SC ??

What is going to be a factor is the combination of the wheel WIDTH and the OFFSET and how they are in relation to each other.

If you go 1/2" wider, and the offset is less, then the CL of the wheel's relation to the inside face won't change as much as it would with an INCREASE in the offset.

example.....

Stock SS ( SC ) wheel is 18 x7 with a 42mm offset. That offset is based on the theoretical Centerline of the wheel.. and it POSITIVE, meaning to the outside of the wheel...

Now, if you go to an 18 x 7.5 wheel you are gaining 12mm overall ( 6ish mm each half ). Now, if you go from the 42mm offset to a 35mm, you're pulling closer to the center to the wheel by 7mm, basically cancelling the change in width and not getting any closer to the struts and wheel well.

A 45mm offset would make it worse by ADDING both 3mm to the the extra 1/4" ( or 6mm )

Also, be sure your tire isn't getting too tall when ordering it so that the outside Diameter of the tire ( it's height ) isn't more than your stock size.

Now, I'm sure there are ways around this, and not all my info is dead on, but it's a ballpark analysis of the factors.

Hope this helps some. If you do a search in the gallery of pics, there is a diagram in there showing you the how the dimensions are guaged and measured.

I have a SS/SC. So basically with 7.5 inch wheels would 225 or 235 be best...and what about 8" wheel?

According to Tirerack.com, there are plenty of 8" wide wheels that are out there that fit. Most of these from what I've seen are 30mm offsets. That would help counter the extra 1/2" (12mm ) that you are adding. Since the factory is 42mm, that would negate the extra width.

An 8" wheel would most likely HAVE to get a 235, but check your series ( 35, 40, 45 )and see what your overall tire height will be as that will affect the speedo.

your rubbing because of the intake.. i had the same issue with the fuji..

i swapped to Nexen n3000 225/40/18 and everything is perfect.. smaller side wall will fix the issue

there a good tire , BUT , there not cheap , i got 2 dunlop super sport dot compounds , which are better than the kdw's in my opinion ( these are only competition tires ) for 177$ shipped to my door off ebay , thats like the price of one kdw especially in the size of 235 40 18 , kdw's are good but there are plenty of other tires out there that are better and on discound or at least comprable

i agree that the kdw 2s are pricey and i myself is looking for a cheaper better tire. I just really liked the tread pattern.

I thought that it wasn't good to bring the offsets on the cobalt below 38mm or stability issues occur. Is this information correct?
