View Full Version : Getting Rid of the Cobalt
SS in SJ 03-16-2007, 09:01 PM Hey all,
I live in Saint John New Brunswick and I am looking to get rid of my SS superchared :(
It's a lease with 2 years 10 months left. I have an extra 4 grand invested in the vehicle so you wouldn't be able to lease this car from a lot. It's 2006, 22k, loaded. Stage II kit, 2 brand new Parelli tires ($425 per tire), also 4 new winter tires and 4 new winter rims. I also put a thousand dollars down so my monthly payment is only 369 per month. The buy back after the 2 years 10 months is 9 grand.
Please let anyone you know who might be interested.
QuikSilverSS 03-18-2007, 09:56 PM I may have a buudy that would be intersted
martinsmu 03-18-2007, 11:35 PM What did u do with the pulley U had? Want to sell it?
QuikSilverSS 03-19-2007, 11:13 AM I still have the 2.8" pulley on the car...I will be taking it off and putting the Stage 2 pulley on...taking the car to Cape Pele to get it dyno'd with the stage 2 and then switch pulleys and dyno it with the 2.8" to see the difference in power it really is making in my car. I am worried about heat soak on those hot summer days, so I need to get the GM dual pass intercooler endplate to take full advantage of the smaller pulley.
martinsmu 03-19-2007, 11:48 AM Let me know how taht goes for you!! really curious in knowing ure #'s.. oh and IDC with the 2.8
QuikSilverSS 03-19-2007, 12:25 PM Just spoke to Danny, I am going up to Cape Pele in a few weeks to do some pulls. He will check my A/F ratio each time. He does not have HP tuners yet, but said that he is getting it soon. I am buddies with the tech that installed my pulley, he put it on when he installed the rest of the stage 2 kit, he turned a blind eye. So if my IDC's cause any issues, the dealer will never know its a smaller pulley...the invoice makes no reference to a smaller pulley install and the pulley itself looks identical to the stock stage 2 pulley only it weighs alot less. Plus if it blows i can switch back to the stage 2 pulley in a matter of 15 minutes or less. If the difference on the dyno is not that much by putting the 2.8" on, i may just remove it and put the stage 2 3" pulley on and not have to worry about breaking anything, i think it will be the torque that will be the big difference, i dont think it will make that radical of a difference in peak hp, just more torque and hp through the mid range.
I ran a stock Cobalt ss a few weeks back and pulled him no prob, especally in the mid an top end all runs were from like 70 -180 kph beat him by like 10 cars. You should come to Cape Pele the same weekend and make a few pulls, it would be nice to see the difference in our cars.
You should put down some nice #'s with the exhaust mods and the stage 2 with the 2.9". Would you want to go halves for the hour and make some pulls? Its $85 hr with the wideband, enough for 6-8 pulls
martinsmu 03-19-2007, 12:47 PM What day exacly would you be down? I would be interested for sure, just depends if iam home from school or not. I got to SMU in Halifax, I comme down every secind weekend usually. That means this up comming weekend, the weekend ofg the 7th april. If you go that weekend, then i would be down for a few pulls. I dont have the exhaust installed on my car yet, was waiting for spring to do that. So we should have about the same #'s. Both have stage 2, you got a 2.8, me a 2.9 and I got a Injen CAI instead of your AEM.
QuikSilverSS 03-19-2007, 01:20 PM Thats when I was planning on going to Cape Pele was that weekend, so if you want to meet up for a few runs let me know, I think that is Easter weekend so i would like to do it that Saturday morning or afternoon, it will be a good basis for a baseline for you exhaust mods as well as any coolant mods i am planning on doing to rid as much heat soak from the smaller pulley as possible
martinsmu 03-19-2007, 05:26 PM Yeah I'll be down for sure. I can do a run S2, then I can slap the pulley on there. I can even go without the CAI if I want. I havent even put that on my car right now. But I was planning on installing the CAI and pulley this weekend. Really 3 runs would be enough for me and 40$, total curiosity!~ Leave me a msg in a week or so to touch base again to make sure iam still going home. Easter is Exam time, but preatty sure I can make it.
Oh, we should advertise this a little bit more, maybe change the forum name, more ppl might come, that would be awesome!
BlackSS/SC 03-19-2007, 05:49 PM Damn you guys! I lived 1/2 hr outside Saint John 6 months ago and no one was ever on here from NB! lol
Oh Yeah, I had HP then too haha
martinsmu 03-19-2007, 05:52 PM Where did u get ure HPtune done? blackSS/SC
QuikSilverSS 03-19-2007, 06:29 PM Did you live down towards Lepreau, St George area?? My buddy jamie mentioned a guy had a black SS/SC that had HP tuners? Did you buy your car from Bretts?? Have you tuned your car with HP Tuners? what were the results.
BlackSS/SC 03-19-2007, 06:34 PM Ya I tunned the car myself, never had it dynoed yet though. There's a dyno locally here so I'll be doing that soon hopefully. Plus there's a bunch of 1/4 mile tracks close to here too!
I did live near St. George, actually in Pennfield is where I did live. Ya I know Jamie, he's a bud of mine too, I worked with his cousin in St. George. I bought my car in Moncton from Loundbrys(pardon my spelling lol).
QuikSilverSS 03-19-2007, 06:40 PM My buddy Andrew was the service advisor at Brett's and said that 3 stage 2 kits were ordered in SJ. Mine, SS in SJ's and I assume yours was the other (Black SS/SC). I had my kit installed in October but had got my car in July. Wow small world.
Blackss/sc what are your A/F readings like with the stage 2 and 2.8" I know you have probably tuned it to be perfect, but what can I expect with MY current setup as far as A?F readings go? You have a wideband O2 in your car correct???

I wouldn't run a 2.8" on 42lb injectors! I actually had gm stage 2 flash but 42.5lb Lucas injectors and my injector duty cycle was like 138%! Not so bad now since I live at a higher altitude but I've got 60lbers on order anyways. My a/f ratio was really rich and got lean near redline. And no I didn't deal with Brett's, or should I say I used to but they screwed me to many times. lol So did the Pontiac dealer there
QuikSilverSS 03-19-2007, 07:07 PM I think that i am going back to the stage 2 pulley and just keep the 2.8" for the days i want to race people or go to the track, The dealer doesnt know its a 2.8" pulley cause it looks like stock stage 2 pulley, i will let you know, as i plan on dynoing in a few weeks and will see what the performance difference between the 2 are
BlackSS/SC 03-19-2007, 07:11 PM Damn man I miss the weather there! I know kinda off topic! haha How's Jamie doin? He's got a pretty crazy Civic eh.
QuikSilverSS 03-20-2007, 10:03 AM I actually ran his Civic in Lorneville in the fall just after my stage 2 and 2.8" , he said that he was running 7psi at the time(adjustable to 12+psi) we were dead even til like 180 or so. I ran him like 7 times (at least 3 races i misses 3rd, so he won those) but when we did get on it it was pretty much even. he would get a slight jump at the start, about a car than i would catch him because my gears are a bit longer and pull even or slightly ahead. If he ran 12psi it would be a different story, he would beat me no problem. He has since sold the car, bought a 1999 Miata and is in the process of putting a paxton supercharged 331 Fully Built Mustang motor, it will be nuts when it is done. Ya he is knowledgable ablout civics for sure, and his is one of the fastest in the city! His other buddy (I think his name is Scott) has a blue 94 Civic hatch that runs in the 12's. Jamie said the setup he ran me with (7psi) he was mid 13's at the drag strip in Miramichi...
