I'm beginning to think there may be something wrong with my car. My gas mileage is a steady 20.0MPG no matter how I drive, it will fluctuate maybe ~+/- 0.5MPG

Anyone else have craptastical gas mileage lately?

 

Yeah me too. I was as low as 17mpg, so I eased up on the go pedal until I hit 20mpg, but I can't seem to get any higher. I'm used to being around 23ish and don't feel I've changed my driving habits. Could be the weather I guess, maybe even quality of fuel?.

 

I used to get like 30ish before.

I don't think de-modding could have had that big of an impact

 

My "FUEL ECON" gauge reads 31.0 MPG on the dot. It's been going up steadily since I got it. I drive easy though.

 

I have never seen above 24....and that was taking it easy.......

I average 20mpg as well

 

Could be some new additives or **** they put in gas the also caused the prices to increase lately. Around town I am at 19-22 and highway upwards of 28.

 

I'm getting about 25 with Stage 2... that's by manual calculation and not trusting that lying fuel econ thing.

You don't think they started mixing a small percentage of that E85 stuff in with the regular gas and didn't tell anyone do you? That would explain higher prices and less mileage.

I'm a steady average of 24, burning only premium gas...min of 91 octane. Gets a little better on the highway and a little worst if i stomp on the car.

 

Mine sucks, right around 17-19 at any given time. But then my daily drive is only 2 miles each way from home to work and back, 4 miles total and not over 30mph at the fastest. Then when I do get on the autobahn my average speed is 100mph so no chance to see any better. Oh well though, to much fun goin that fast legally.

 

try resetting your dic and see what you get. i stay around 28-29mpg usually.

Well we have really shitty gas here in Milwaukee. Its all that reformulated ****. If i use 87 octane like i used to its about low 17, I been putting 93 in now and getting high 19's. I have only seen anything above 20 when I went to Chicago. Its only about 80 miles but it gave me an extra 4mpg.

 

don't use 93 in your 2.2... jeeze...

I got ~27 mpg with 70% highway driving with an '07 SS/SC

The POS Aveo I bought to replace it only gets ~28 MPG under the same conditions and it's half the HP and half the acceleration.

I don't understand why so many of you are getting crappy MPG.

one of 2 reasons:

1) THey don't reset their DIC
2) They drive like idiots.

You have to periodically reset your dic. For example, i drove home in the snow last week, or ice rather, and my MPG went down from 28mpg to 9mpg. yes, 9mpg. i was spinning my tires the entire way home. if i never reset the DIC, i would probably be somewhere around 14 mpg now. since i did reset it, i'm back up to my normaly 28-29

Dont't worry about it guys... I went all the way down to 17 L / 100 KM ( app. 14.6 MPG).
I got worried so i brought the car in and they said that the car was working within GM specs and a gas increase up to 10% was normal according to the energy guide or something like that. Also check your air filter if you haven't done it in a while. I changed mine because it was dirty and my gas mileage went back up to around 18 - 19 MPG.

 

Funny you say that because I routinely drive like an idiot.

Besides, I never relied on that idiotic DIC to obtain my MPG. According to it I was supposed to be getting ~32 mpg. I wish I were, but unfortunately was not. I always calculated my fuel mileage by using the formula; miles driven per fill-up divided by the number of gallons needed to refill my tank.

The worst I ever got was 24, IIRC.

Putting ~9,000 miles on a car in 5 months tends to keep you aware of fuel consumption religiously.

 

You still have that Shiftplus strapped on there Hack? that may be the problem.

Someone else suggested resetting the computer, that would be my next course of action.

 

Reset the computer by taking the Negative battery cable off the battery and let it sit for a MINIMUM of 15 minutes, better to take it off over night, that way the computer and all the capacitors can fully drain. I had to do this a couple of times on my previous vehicle (05 Colorado).

Then at EVERY FILL UP, not just once in a while, RESET the Econ Gauge. It says I average about 29-32mpg in town, and that is absolutely DEAD ON when I do the manual calculations at fill up. On the highway I get around 39-47mpg. On the highway reset the Econ Gauge again if you are doing a long trip, one that takes almost half a tank is usually a long trip.

Now, those high Mileage numbers on the highway were no faster than 65mph! When I'm doing 90MPH I only get 27mpg...

Seriously though, RESET THAT DARN GAUGE AND YOU WILL NOTICE IT WORKING!

everything could be a factor...check your tire pressure...change oil when needed...and stuff like that...i had a front tire that had a pressure of 23 lbs...then when i pumped it up...the gas mileage went up with it

just doing some of the things this guy does on occasion i've went from ~28mpg up to ~32. then i took off the restrictive intake tube thing before the filter and I rarely get below 34 mpg, i've gotten 52 before according to the DIC. (i had next to no gas and i HAD to make it to the gas station, which was 8 miles away)

as for your problems, bad winter fuel is partly to blame i'm sure. check your air and fuel filter, those are the usual suspects.

 

80% Freeway and 20% local. All Freeway 60mph about 33 to 34 70mph about 30 to 31.
Thought my mileage would go down but seems to be about the same. Usually 300miles per tank of 11 gallons. 28,000 miles now on the car. New 07 motor with stage II put in 2 weeks ago gas mileage still the same.

forgot using chevron 92 octane only. 3.15 per gallon today
