View Full Version : Best wax/polish for black cars
Sicklyscott 03-23-2007, 02:50 PM I remember a couple years ago I saw some products specifically for black cars, but I can't remember the names of them. Has anyone had any exceptional experience with a certain wax that will take care of swirl marks and will also protect for 3-4 months (I don't have as much time as I used to)?
Thanks!
djcasper_bpm 03-23-2007, 02:52 PM on my black ride i use a combo of wolfgang and pinnacle waxes.. wolfgang makes a swirl kit that works great..
607Motorsports 03-23-2007, 02:54 PM Meguiars Gold Class is the best stuff i've come across that can be bought right in the store. If you want something amazing try some Zaino, that stuff is unbelievable :) I used to detail cars all through high school and college as a side job :)
Give a look at Meguiars professional line of detailing supplies. There are several different paint cleaners, polishes, and waxes available. Very popular polishes by them are #83, and #80.
TVS_SS 03-23-2007, 08:59 PM Porter cable 7424
Lake Country white curved VC pad + 3M 39003 Compund
Then
Porter cable 7424
Lake Country white curved VC pad + 3M 39009 Compund
Finish off with a wax of your choice
Thats a good combo for a very mildy abrasive polish.. and will have results you will most definately be happy with.
cea2488 03-24-2007, 02:45 PM My car is red, but my dad has a black S-10, and we use Meguiar's Gold Class. It seems to work really well on his truck.

Great stuff. makes waxing a breeze.
IMADreamer 03-24-2007, 11:46 PM Megs gold class is all I use on my car. My car is not black but I've used it on several black cars. Megs is the best stuff short of Zaino Brothers which is probably the best out there but crazy expensive.
EDIT: to get out swirls you will have to buff with a polisher. Porter Cable makes a great one.
katie 03-25-2007, 11:29 AM My husband like the Meguirs Gold Class stuff the best. I'm usually in a hurry when I'm waxing, so I prefer the Meguirs Next generation spray detailer wax (in purple and lime green bottle) to do my waxing. Never had a problem on black cars and its really fast to apply since its in a spray bottle.
BlueLT 03-29-2007, 07:21 PM Zaino on my previous black car - and the main reason I like it (besides the incredible shine) is it's very durable.

607Motorsports 03-30-2007, 11:58 AM Zaino is some pretty amazing stuff, as said before it's pretty expensive and not found on the shelf. If you want a mirror like shine for a car show I'd use Zaino, for a daily driver you just wanna keep clean grab some Meguiars and you would be good to go.
BTW I love that WS6 man, my buddy used to own a mint Black 96 WS6 :)

a_bal 04-09-2007, 02:17 AM a wax called The Worlds Best Wax!!! Its awesome! You just apply it wait like 3 minutes and just wipe it off with a terry cloth... no need to wait for the ugly white haze and crap! I would show yuo a picture but I don have one. By far far the best wax I have ever used.

A little off topic, but is that a Trans Am or Firebird? I noticed it has the ram-air hood, but the lower spoiler and no fog lights like the TA's had. Just curious. Didn't know they made Firebirds w/ the ram-air hood if that's what it is. Awesome paint finish/detailing job by the way, no matter what car it is. It's amazing how there is absolutely no orange peel in the paint!!!

Pontiac made two Ram-Air (WS6) 4th gen f-body's - the Trans Am, which everyone knows about, and the Formula. The Formula was MUCH rarer and was basically a stripper model, although it could be optioned out with most of the T/A's stuff. Mine was a '98 WS6 Formula - only a little over 100 made for that year! As for the paint, for whatever reason, mine was really smooth - must have been painted on a Wednesday or something *L*.

ditto

Will all due respect Nano wax has the durability of an 80 year old man who forgot to refill his Viagra prescription :twothumbs It's really not very good stuff at all IMO. Not in comparison to the better products out there anyway.

why do you say that
BlueLT 04-10-2007, 03:22 PM why do you say that
Just my impression from personal experience with the product vs. others: - shine is not as glossy or deep, and after a few washings the water beads are already much larger/less well defined. I returned to using Zaino.
Jimmys2007CobaltSS/C 04-10-2007, 03:28 PM thats a trans am?

Mine (pics) was the "Formula" model.
yellow_cobalt 04-11-2007, 03:41 PM well depending on severity of the swirls, most waxes wont help. if they are minor swirls, i have used a 3 stage wax by mothers that does very well. it really helps though to have a polisher. you dont really need a buffer, a polisher can do the job. hand waxing it really doesnt seem to help. but ive had my old saturn sl2 looking better then new with it. it took me 3 days to finish it all, but i didnt have 1 swirl or scratch in it.
now if the swirls/scratches are kind of bad, you will need a buffer and some compounds (might be able to get away with rubbing compound). but be careful with that, then after the rubbing compound you can work with "stage" waxes like mothers. when all finished, end with a pure brazillian carnuba and it should come out awesome. ive been detailing for years.
stryder 04-11-2007, 03:49 PM Black Magic is supposed to work wonders for black vehicles. It was made and formulated specifically for black vehicles. might want to give them a try not to expensive and the tire shine from black magic is the longest lasting on the market. (so I have heard)

OH YEAH! black magic tire shine does last very long. advance auto has basically the same formula and works just as good for less and you get even more.

Thanks for the tip.:twothumbs
monkeiboy 04-11-2007, 04:28 PM Another Nanowax user here.
I've noticed that it DOESN'T last quite as long as other waxes, but it looks better than anything I've tried yet. Plus it's 10x easier to use, and it goes a long way.
It's almost as easy as a spray detailer.
The reason some people have different experiences with it could be climate related?
Less snow/rain down here in the states
