My door bezels came out horrible :( no 56k

you can see the paint on the buttons and light shines through them when its dark cuz i sanded them accidently

and heres my caliper paint peeling off

overall, i guess its ok for my first time painting, but im still kinda depressed about it. its like my car is falling apart all cuz of me my door bezels look like crap, though i think the color came out great. and my caliper paint coming off. my cobalt is in bad shape

Take the buttons out next time...try a junk yard to get some replacement switches. As for the calipers, you have to use high heat paint and clean the claiper very well before you paint. I suggest using the duplicolor caliper kit that you brush on.

i used that kit and mine are doing the same thing. I think it is either the rim cleaner or the sand/salt on the roads. Im going to redo them in the summer.

Its your rim cleaner!
Don't ever spray a chemical based cleaner on your rims!
1 its will make your caliper paint either peel or it will discolour it!
2 its not good for the painted rims you may not see it yet but it slowly
eats at the clear coat then the paint will peel!

I found that the paint will peel off if you spray a high pressure stream (aka car wash) doirectly on them.

yep, they look pretty shitty....at least you took the time and effort to try doing them. Hopefully you learned from the process.

Check out my gallery. I did mine black, but I am a professional. It is hard to tape off everything, but if you take the time to do it right you won't have to do it again.

yea. i learned never to do stuff myself again lol. i wish they made orange ones premade wiht the buttons and stuff. id probably buy them. i dont think its worth trying to redo it cuz the buttons are already scuffed up enough and the best i can dp is get the paint a little better, but i dunno it doesnt even seem worth it.

the calipers were peeling again today as i was washing my car, so im not worried about them. one day i will just try getting all the paint off. maybe just leave them silver. was gonna paint them orange...but...yea. haha not a good idea i guess.

The buttons will come out with a little finesse, I just did mine this weekend and all the buttons came out without any breaking. You have to be carefull with the buttons b/c they are painted with soft touch paint that if removed you will see the LED shining through the scratch, so I would avoid scraping if possible. If you already have removed some of this paint and don't like the look of the light shining through, you can try some touch-up paint, but you will be able to see the difference. I would hit up the junk yards. A new switch there should only be about $3 each.

Just repaint them and maybe try taking a black sharpe marker on the spots that the black is messed up. Also use a nice high gloss clearcoat next time

btw where did you get the custom floormats?

Can't you remove the buttons from the backside? If not just use a few small pieces of tape to mask them off and repaint them

Did you clear coat everything? That should help sold alot of the peeling issues. With the brake calipers you have to make sure that you clean them really well and then dry them before you start adding paint. Then hit it with several coats of your paint and then a high temp clear coat to top them off. That should really help prevent peeling.

Also the rim and tire spray is a no no. You should apply all cleaners and protectants by hand to that area to avoid paint damage.

Listen to me very carefully....

You need the Trim Cup Bezel TSB. There is a TSB that installs a ring around the door trim cups to keep the door panel fabric from peeling like it's doing on yours. It's free, its part of your warranty. GO GET IT.

I used the duplicolor kit on my calipers. On the back I added vinyl chevy emblems and high temp clear coated them....10,000 miles later, no peeling at all. Now the fronts I did the same thing but didn't do the high temp clear coat...they are now peeling, but that ok since they came out like crap in the first place (vinyl too big) I will be re-doing them shortly.

::Go get yourself some high temp clear coat, duplicolor makes that as well, as re-do your calipers and then high temp clear coat them....should hold up better this time.

I don't know the TSB number. I don't need to. Just bring the car to a dealer shop, show them the trim cups, and say "There is a TSB that puts a trim ring around that. I need that."
