View Full Version : Wanna know what sucks?
RockTheSVT 09-02-2005, 04:11 AM Well this is what sucks. My girlfriend, who owns the Cobalt, she wanted the SS non supercharged long before it came out. When she ordered her Cobalt, the salesman told her that the SS non supercharged was never gonna come out, and talked her into the LS. So she got the LS, and the other day we drove by another dealer, and BAM, there's a beautiful, fully loaded, black SS non supercharged sitting on the lot. We checked it out, she got pissed and went to the dealer she bought her car from. First, one of the salesmen argued with me, telling me that the 2.4l Cobalt SS doesnt exhist, and I told him that I've already seen 2 (I saw a 4 door one a couple days earlier, but it wasnt nearly as sexy as the coupe). Then they told her she's stuck in her lease till the 3 years are up, and basically the only way around it is to pay off the remaining cash on her loan, and start over again.
Now, I know she should've just waited, but she didnt think she had to wait, cause the salesman told her that the car was never gonna come out. So that was an asshole move on Chevys part. She loves her car now, but she origionally wanted the 2.4l SS, and now that it's out, she just wants it more. We're trying to find a loop hole around the lease, but it's not looking so good now.
Sorry, I just thought I would share that story with everyone. And I cant wait to race a new 2.4l SS with my car, I'd love to see how it turned out.
memphisr24 09-02-2005, 04:20 AM Whoever told you the 2.4 SS wasn't going to come out should be fired. As a salesman, he/she should know many things about the Car Company's cars and the car company itself. Thumbs down to that salesman.
RockTheSVT 09-02-2005, 04:24 AM The guy actually quit not to long ago. She thinks he was just trying to get her in her LS so he could get one more commision check before he left. And it sucks cause her family has bought 4 cars from that guy, and they thought he was really reliable.
And something I couldnt figure out was, if ordinary people knew about the new SS months before it came out, how could he not know about it? I mean come on, he worked for Chevy.
My girlfriend was almost in tears when they told her there was pretty much no way around her lease. I'm not giving up this fight for her though. I wanna see her in the car she wants!
Haha, sorry, it's late and I'm rambling.
memphisr24 09-02-2005, 04:34 AM Well I hope there's some way around it. I agree that the salesman was trying to make just another sale. It is late, sheesh, I must be off to bed lol
ThEChEat 09-02-2005, 04:40 AM Yeah, I sort of understand where you're coming from but luckily before I passed my check to the dealer for a different car the new SS came out and I was like *swipes check back and says, 'Nevermind, changed my mind :x.'* I hope everything goes well for you, and remember.. you can never trust a salesman, because in the end they always want to just sell you something. Good luck man.
Toronto SS 09-02-2005, 06:51 AM I've never met a salesperson who knew anything about a car I've wanted.
I went to a dodge dealerhip to look at srt's, the salesperson tried to tell me the srt design was an srt-4
I went to buy my SS/SC the salesperson told me it had a 2 cylinder engine.
The ford salesperson was gonna find me a used svt focus, he didnt even call me back and its been almost three months.
I guess my point is I hate salespeople.
BLKSS 09-02-2005, 10:19 AM Just trade the lease man
xonic 09-02-2005, 03:37 PM Maybe you could find someone to 'assume' the payments?

LOL...The salemen I went to both new what the srt was and didn't know anything more than the invoice said... One salesmen tried to tell me about the excellent resale value of the srt.... I just thought about all the 04's going for 14-16k and laughed to myself.
walkeda0 09-02-2005, 04:39 PM I found the following website when I was looking to see what options I have with my lease. I've decided just to stick with my LS so I haven't looked into the site too much.

Final-Reality 09-04-2005, 08:08 PM If you call GM and bitch your plight to them they would very, VERY likely be willing to help you out; after all if there arent many miles on the car why wouldnt they want to buy out your lease for you to get you into a more expensive car right? I'm sure if you put some effort forth in letting GM (not the dealership, they obviously are jerkoffs) know how pissed off you are, at the very least the dealership will catch some flak from them.
MarcS 09-04-2005, 08:32 PM Although the salesman was wrong, it really was her responsibility to make sure what the dealership claimed was correct. It's not illegal to be 'mistaken' in some respects, so you must be prepared.
She should have gone to another dealership, and another, until she got exactly what she wanted.
If she contacts GM there might be something they can do in regards to this issue. I contacted them with a problem I had and they responded very quickly, and they were very helpful.

yeah, a high resale value in the dealer's used section.
i would hate to go through that.
a 2 cylinder engine?!... there are some sales people that dont know what they are selling, we all know that by what we read on this site. my advise is if you know exactly what you want, then dont bend, make the dealer bend till he/she brakes. good luck with everything.

What they didn't tell you about the limited edition BRIGGS AND STRATTON edition cobalt?

Remember that salesman do not "work" for Chevy. They work for a franchised Chevy dealership. Gm does not sign their paychecks! They only sell Chevy's. Not all salesman are bad either. Sure there's a lot of bad ones, but there are great ones out their too!
Unfortunately, you signed a lease on a car. That is a legally binding document. Call GM though, maybe they can do something to help you out! They are not as bad as people sometimes think. Plus it's not entirely you're fault. You were mis-informed by what should have been a reliable source.
betterthanbad 09-09-2005, 02:04 AM If you were misinformed and you could actually prove it.......you could win your case but the extra you would spend on the lawyer would suck....................Negotiate between GM and the dealer would be the next best thing. :cssNET:
RockTheSVT 09-10-2005, 03:13 AM She called GM the other day, and the lady she talked to was so suprised at what happened. We told her about how the guy told us it wasnt coming out and that they were really rude. She called and talked to the owner, and told her to tell us that he wants us to come in and talk to him. So we called him, and oh man, he was a fucking dickhead on the phone. He kept saying we were lying about what we were saying, about knowing about the 2.4 for a long time, and then he tried to tell us it didnt exhist...again. Then he said that she was basically screwed. Everyone that tried to help us from that dealership was rude, unreliable, and just sucked. No one ever called us back when they said they would either. Worst customer service ever. Oh and the lady from GM is looking to see if we were misinformed, and she said if we were, she can pretty much get her car, or it'll be alot easier to pull strings.
Vendian 09-10-2005, 05:34 AM At least one person is trying to help you out. In regards to salesman: I'm a 'salesman' at Circuit City, and I'm very knowledgeable. We aren't payed on commision, but I still make it MY job to know about what I'm selling. I know you can all agree that not all salesman are idiots. But seriously, I research electronics stuff that I don't know about so that I can do my job better. I just don't get how you can go about doing a job that you bullshit about. I need to know about thousands of products, and chevy has a line-up of how many cars? Sheesh. Ok, that was so off-topic...

You should've recorded the conversation from both in person and over the phone. That would've been some proof for the GM lady, but then again, who carries a recorder everywhere they go?

if it was on a cell phone it would be easy, but you would have to tell them you were recording them or it wouldn't hold up.
VortecWes 11-30-2005, 10:38 AM The salesman I dealt with yesterday kept trying to talk me into an automatic when the only reason I even want to buy a new car (I'll keep my truck, thankyouverymuch) is to have a small manual car to drive around.
Bottom line: INSIST on the car that you want. Don't get "talked into" a car that you won't be happy with. I absolutely refuse to drive anything other than what I want. It HAS to be black. Not blue. Not granite metallic...or whatever. Black. The salesman that I talked to didn't seem to understand that. Arghhh....those guys can really suck sometimes.
I know it's different for her situation, but lesson learned I suppose. At the end of the lease I'm sure there will be an awesome sedan SS for her... :)
celicacobalt 11-30-2005, 05:31 PM good luck with all that man they tried that with me but i told them whats up and they had the right car shipped in for me from another dealer and then put the supercharged body kit and sopiler on it and i made them paint my gold badges red , i got everthing i wanted with out bending,

Yeah man, I hear ya. I work for autotrader and deal with dealers all the time.
The best thing to say is
"Sir, you are about to lose my business. I want a black 5 speed SS, nothing else." Then start walking out the door. If he lets you go, he is the worst salesman ever.
Soopahmahn 12-04-2005, 12:43 AM Never buy a car from Sharp Chevrolet, those of you in the Chicagoland area. The salesman told me I was buying a SS S/C and that they had removed the boost guage, gotten rid of the shopping cart-handle spoiler, and made the wheels smaller for the 2006 (it's really a 2.4L N/A). If I had scrutinized the window sticker I would have known better, but at the time (this summer) the 2.4L N/A was barely known, even on this forum. At some level it's my fault of course, but the guy was either blatantly deceiveing me or completely bullshitting about his own product, and he was backed up on his claims by multiple people at the dealer. They also were extremely rude to me while I was doing the paperwork and when I called later to ask questions about some of it they FORGOT TO GIVE ME, including proof of transfer of title from my trade-in. Thanks for making my first car buying experience a nightmare, jackasses.
detrini 12-04-2005, 01:10 AM the lack of a blower right on top of the engine didnt clue you in, wow...
detrini 12-04-2005, 01:22 AM really I just want to know how you found out..... did you like get home and spend hours looking for the supercharger, or were you bragging about how loud the whine was and someone set you straight....... Its like getting someone drunk with n/a beer.....sry I find your pain absolutely halarious...
Cobalt_Supercharged 12-04-2005, 01:33 AM I had a salesman tell me they didn't have any SS S/C's. He was standing in front of a red and a yellow one. They also had a blue one that just came in from prep. Some salesman are worthless lumps. Not all, but there are quite a few unfortunately.

LOLZ, I agree totally. The original dealership I went to had an idiot salesman working the floor. He tried telling me the cobalt ss didnt come supercharged, it had 215hp ( that would be nice :) ), and I couldnt afford one ( what a beligerant a$$hole ). And on top of all this, he in a roundabout way, told me my escort ZX2 was a piece of $#%t and would only get $300 for it ( its kelly blue booked at approx $3300 ). Needless to say I didnt buy from that moron, and had his boss "address the situation".
korax123 12-05-2005, 11:09 AM I need to know about thousands of products, and chevy has a line-up of how many cars? Sheesh. Ok, that was so off-topic...
I sold cars at Thorobred Chevy in Chandler for 2 1/2 weeks (hours sucked and found a better job)
Actually there is a crap load you have to remember. More then just 15 or so models because everyone of those models have like 3 different version atleast 2 engines trucks have like 3-5 different engines. What models have what options etc. etc.
You actaully have to know a lot. I knew a lot about all the cars and the trucks I knew most but not everything. I couldn't remember if certain models came with memory seats or not. And believe it or not the window sticker doesn't alwas have everything that is on the car in there. Like if someone asked you whats the difference between a LT and LTZ Impala....you have to know what comes standard in which.
It's easy to be ignorent about someone elses job until you tried it. Believe me I thought it would be easy until I actualy did it. I did sell 8 cars 6 New and 2 used in those 2 1/2 weeks though :guns:
Oh and the biggest pain is this question whats the tow rating....theres like 60 configurations for that lol
Cobalt443 12-21-2005, 01:42 PM Being that I have purchased 2 Cobalt's within' 6 months...I came to the realization of what's really important to a GM dealership (especially when they are a 5 star dealership). The survey straight from GM. When I bought my first Cobalt I guess you can say I got screwed. They did a shitty job detailing it, I had to wait about 3 hours to take delivery of it (they were trying to get the swirl marks out of the black paint which didn't come out too well) When I recieved that survey from GM they sure did know I was pissed. I got 3 free oil changes and so on from GM. Well.....6 months later I show up to purchase ANOTHER cobalt and they kissed my ass. (they remembered me) They took care of the factory defects on this one (miniscule bubbles in the paint on passenger door) well when I was driving back down to the dealership (I live in Central NJ and the dealership is in Southern PA) The motor blew with about 381 miles on it. Between fixing the bubbles and motor and so on...they had my car back to me in about a week. Only word of advice from people who buy brand new is: Go directly to the SALES MANAGER. I do that whenever I buy brand new and it always works out better because they have more "pull" than your regualr joe-schmo salesman
TJs Screename 01-26-2006, 05:30 PM Obviously none of you have been in an accident in your brand new cobalt or you would know what really sucks...i had my cobalt for exatcly two weeks and just hit 1800 miles when i totaled my cobalt at abot 100 miles an hour when you come around a corner and there is someone stopped in the middle of the road.... now that really sucks hearing the popping and crunching of you beeing cut out of your pride and joy...(its ok now got a new one however never want to experience that again)
1stbluSS 01-26-2006, 05:33 PM Too much for me to read in this thread. In a year she will be able to take her LS in for the SS dealers will let you get out of a lease earlier than you should if you are going to lease a more expensive vehicle. My friend bought a 2003 GTP and in 04 the Goat came out. He took the GTP in and they were like well you are way to early in your lease to get out of it. He replied what if my payments are going up $100 a month. Next thing you know he has a GTO.
1stbluSS 01-26-2006, 05:35 PM As far as the buying experience goes. When I bought my ss/sc I was in and out. They detailed it great. They also game me free wheel locks and oil changes for the life of my lease. Pretty awesome. I don't use the oil change thing though because I put extended performance in my car and the dealer is 40 mins away.
Armorsquadbliss 01-26-2006, 06:09 PM Man round here dealers, and salesmen dont play games like that corse I live in a HUGE GM city. GM prolly couldnt do anything for you since most dealerships are on there own. To bad bout the lease thats why i dont like leases, they get you in the end.
1stbluSS 01-26-2006, 06:14 PM Dude you should drive down from saginaw with your cobalt and come to my michigan meet. Cobalt ss/sc,srt-4,redlines will be hanging out mostly but all cobalt brethern or anyone for that matter are welcome.
1stbluSS 01-26-2006, 06:14 PM I have a branch in saginaw
Armorsquadbliss 01-26-2006, 06:50 PM Heh i dont actually own a Cobalt though just like them. Was looking to either get one or an HHR.
Armorsquadbliss 01-26-2006, 07:53 PM I never seen the sedan SS are they out already? i thought they wernt due out till this spring/summer.
MikeSS 01-27-2006, 12:12 AM I never seen the sedan SS are they out already? i thought they wernt due out till this spring/summer.
No, they have been out since last september.
Armorsquadbliss 01-27-2006, 01:39 AM Wow i aint seen one anywhere. they either go that unnoticed or there havent been many rolling threw here.
jerryg 01-27-2006, 02:30 AM Im sorry to hear that man. That sucks. Im a car salesman and i would never ask someone to buy something that they dont want. You should have talked to another sales person. If you really want to trade it back in save a little bit of money for negative equity. And hope that someone will help you. Good luck
