I want to bring my car at the track this summer and wanted to know to know you guys would run. I have lightweight 16's for winter with winter tires that grab preatty good on dry pavement, they are a size smaller than they should be (205/55/16). I also have the stocker 18's with the stock tires on.
I was wondering if the car would be faster in the 1/4 with the lighter wheel, smaller tire. But I am giving off the line traction. However almost 0 wheel hope wich is awesome.I also calculated it, and I would be preatty near the rev limiter in 3rd at the end of the 1/4, still no need to shift in 4th
The stock dont have alot of traction of the line, but better than then 16's...... but we all know the wheel hop issues.
Dont say engine mounts, thats a simple and plain NO:ca:
bump, any help?

You can find tires that will stick alot easier for the 16's.I would go that route

Try em' out. Lighter and you say you get better traction. Sounds like a good combo to me.
Ok.
Moved to, I don't know, Drag Racing section?

15" best for strip use...
however since u only have 16 or 18.. go with the 16.. it is less rotating mass so you will get up to speed quicker and down the tracks faster. get the widest tire you can fit on it also.. if its 205/55 stock then look into something like a 225/45 or 235/40

lightweight 16s with a nice sticky tire would work better.
more sidewall is your friend
but please dont drag race with winter tires.
they arent rated to go the speeds you will get up to, unless you specifically bought high speed winters

Yup buy 2 nice sticky summer tires and swap em on the 16's. 225/55 will be a good size, more sidewall, wider, and will still fit a 6 inch wheel.
edit: Was bored so i checked out tirerack.
225/55/16 summer tires (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?sortValue=0&resultsNumberSelected=Y&displayResults=10&compare=true&compareList=&RunFlat=All&goWhere=%252Ftires%252FCompare1.jsp&width=225%2F&ratio=55&diameter=16&performance=EP&performance=MP&performance=UHP&performance=HP&startIndex=0)

They are highspeed winters, not worrieds about that. Iver been over 120-130mph with them. Well they are rated for 120MPH anyways. Iam lucky if I hit 107 on the 1/4..... Dont really haver the $$$ for the dragg tires so, just going to try'em both I think. But deff the winter be faster I think.
