Not to flame or be mean but the only way my Cobalt will sound like that is if my muffler gets ripped off while I am driving.

 

what did you use to record those vids? my cell phone makes better quality vids than that.

the video is crappy but from what i heard it sounds nasty. just letting you know the truth man. i'm not just trying to be mean or anything.

 

I dont like it either. Yuck. But if you like it that's all that matters. IMO

i have to agree that thing sounds like quite possibly the absolute worst of the worst of the fart can selection i have heard.

Ok that has got to be largely to due with bit rate and recording quality because that exhaust sounded like a lawnmower on the dyno and a mosquito the rest of the time. I'd imagine it would have a deeper and cleaner sound if it was recorded with a higher quality device and converted to a higher bitrate. I'm assuming that was a cellphone or something because it's choppy as all hell.

If at all possible maybe get a hold of a better quality video camera or something and try it again...bet it doesn't sound nearly as bad as it does in the videos .

If you were goin for honda you got honda i personaly would not have bought a fartcan for a domestic car i know its hard to get a rumble off a 4cyl but still too much honda for me. the rest of your car is killer though.

I think that with any four cylinder car that you put an exhaust on it will sound like a fart can. I have yet to hear a four cylinder sound not like a fart can except for the srt-4 but i jus love the BOV on that car so idk if i just tune out the noise. I want a turbo for my ss with a crazy BOV.

Thank You all for your opinions, seriously. Well truth is it does not sound that bad as on the video, but another truth to be told I wanted the ultimate in horsepower gains, and I got it +12 hp on the dyno (same one as before nothing changed same temps humidity everything) everything else was stock, there is not one cat back exhaust that is out or probably will come out that adds more than 12hp with everything else stock. I have purchased and applied the silencer for that exhaust because I agree it was not the best sound but not as bad as the video sounds, it is just the quality of the movie after it was converted the actual recording doesn't sound like that. So now I have a near silent exhaust and the most power yeilding one. Comments are welcome!

 

Is it just the video, or does the exhaust really crackle like that? It kinda sounded like it backfired a little after you let off the gas.

 

Not true at all. The sound has to do with certain characteristics of the motor. For instance a boxer engine (Impreza) does not sound fart can at all. The engine has a very loud rumble to it.

I will say this, its likely that all your cars will sound similar with an exhaust, as the muffler really doesn’t change the sound, as much as it changes the volume.

 

I have a hard time believing you gained 12 ponies from a cat back. Your exaust is still bottlenecked at the pipe in the cat forward. Furthermore, most changes don't give you power unless you get the car tuned, the one exception being if they somehow fool the ecu into thinning out the fuel (such as an intake), which an exaust will not do! Did you get the car dynoed after you reset the ECU? Sometimes a freshly reset ECU will put out some more ponies.
