Exclamation Install dealer problems w. stg II

Okay so i bought my stg. 2 from CED for 550, i got it the other day and went to the dealer by my house (jim mckay in fairfax, i live in centreville) for an estimate on how much it would cost to install. Well they called me back and told me that they basically have never done anything like that before, and that they estimate it will cost around 475 to 575 installed and reprogramed. Is that ridiculus price or am i just not aware of how much it actually costs? When i heard that i flipped b/c i'm sure as hell not ready to spend almost 1000 for a stg. 2. I was thinking install would be around 2-300 not almost 6. Is this unreasonable? if so where is a good place i can get this installed?

Your thinking is correct, 250-300 is what you should really be paying for the install. They are charging you more because the tech is going to lose his ass the first time he does one of these. We have done about 4 or 5 of these now and have them down to a science.

my dealer wanted likw $720. and said it would take 10 hours. so i took it to the guy that usualy does the work on my car and he did it for $200 and only took him 3-4 hours. then i took it to a dealer for the reflash and they charged $50 for labor. so the install ended up costing me 250.

From what Ive read on here...if a dealership hasnt dont it they will alwayz quote you a high price. My dealership told me 250 plus tax.. just wish I had the money to get the Stage2 at the 550. Now from CED its like 638....

I just said 250 to 300, 50 more isn't alot and labor rates are a hundred an hour at dealers here in VA.

Yeah, you could even have someone that has HPTuners flash it if they have the Stage 2 flash.

Most dealers wouldn't even know the difference, but I am just throwing out options here. Although, I would say you should really have it flashed by the dealer. If you have a probelm later on they may flash it back to stock, not knowing.

I paid $204 for my install....but the dealer has done quite a few.

I'd call around to as many GM dealers as possible.

well, your right and wrong....the tech can't tell if you hook up hptuners although if you tell them, good luck getting anything done.

I can install the stage 2 for $300. A better option is to install the parts yourself and drive to the dealer for the flash. Just don't get on it and you'll be fine. That way you'll be paying for the flash only. That should run you about an hours labor.

Seriously, come to Frederick, Md. Saturday and we'll get it installed. I'll show you how to then I'll flash it for $150.

I'm in the same boat. My car is in the dealership right now awaiting the arrival of a supercharger gasket so they can remove/reinstall the supercharger because they take it off to perform stage 2 install.

Anyways, they quoted me 4.1 hours installation saying that they hadn't done one before (I believe them) but I told them that it should be able to be done in about 1.5 to 2.5 hours average time and that I know of hundreds of people that have had it done. I told them to complete the warranty work they were doing and hold off on the stage 2 because I was going to get quotes from other dealers and explained that I don't mind about 50$ here or there between dealers, but when its 1 or 2 hundred dollars difference i'll go elsewhere. They ended up calling back 2 hours later saying they could do it for 125 dollars less than they said at 275 for install and gasket.

Just haggle with them and say that you're going to get quotes from other places, all you're trying to do is get an honest quote, keep your warranty, and work with them as your preferred dealer. If push comes to shove, ask them to call the Partec hotline.

Yea, $340 is steep. $85 sounds about right, 1 hours labor.

So you're going to let a ricer shop install the parts on your car and risk having warranty issues with the dealer to save a few buck? Yeah good idea.

$300...come out tomorrow and I'll put on the parts for $150. You can drive to the dealership monday and have them flash it for under $100 and you'll be ahead

if GM installs it. your stage 2 kit will fall under full vehicle warranty
if someone else installs it, you only get 12 months.

why pay $550 for stage2 to keep your warranty, and then **** it away to save $50 on the install?

shop around. im sure youll find a place <300
dont cheap out and have someone else install it. or HPtune it. it defeats the purpose of buying stage 2

heh, my local dealership will only warranty a stage 2 install for 12 months even if they do it, and by "warranty" they mean as long as whatever fails on the engine was in no way related to the additional boost will it be warrantied..... and lets face it you can blame 99.9% of engine failure in some form or another to additional boost therefore you midas well install it and get no warranty atleast in my city anyways.... i talked to the salesmanager about it, and tried to talk to Chevy directly about the issue and basically they're not gonna warranty it. Make sure your dealers aren't as gay as mine if you plan on doing it, i cant afford to have my engine grenade and not be warrantied or i'd have put a S2 in my car awhile ago!.

That sucks if that's your dealership....mine warranties my car as is...aftermarket stuff and all. Helps to talk to them and verify. As you notice, there are 3 different aspects here.
