2007 Ss 2.4

so me and a buddy of mine went to look at some... i found one i loved, silver, sunroof, 5spd Manual...

go the numbers figured out.... with my trade in of the 05 cobalt sdn i can get the SS at around 325 a month (just waiting on approval)

i want to do this on my own without my parents co-signing for me... my step dad dont care, as long as i can afford it...

but my mom... ugh....

she said "i signed a contract to pay off this car".... well i dont like this car... if i get approved, im getting it.. idc what they say...

Save your intake for the 2.4 cause its worth about 10 hp acording to dyno results posted here, that starts you off with 183hp.

I have a sedan and I love mine the 2.4's are good engines and with a few bolt ons and a tune you should put down around 200hp and still be N/A.

Does that deal include them paying off the remaining loan on your current car? If not, I understand why your mom has a problem - she'll be stuck with the residual. If your new loan DOES pay off the remainder of the old loan, then read on:

Here's another way to sell this: tell her that if you make the trade, the loan she signed will be paid in full. She's then off the hook.

If you don't make this trade and for whatever reason you can't make the payments on your current car, then she, as co-signer, has to. After the trade, if, for some reason, you can't make the payments, the lien holder will repo the car, it goes on your credit, and she's totally out of the picture (she's not responsible for making the payments, and the repo doesn't go on her credit).

As a father of grown-up kids, believe me, I worked HARD to get all of their cars in their name and without my wife or I co-signing. I've already had to take one back and pay it out (well, we traded it off eventually) that my wife co-signed for one of the kids.

I can't imagine why your mom would have a problem, unless she's concerned you can't make the payments and is trying to protect you. How does the new payment compare with your corrent payment? I assume you're the one making the current payment. If she is, and the new car is a lot more, I can begin to see the problem.

As for the intake, it's only worth about 10 HP if you convert it to ram air, which it was designed for in the first place. See the link in my sig to the dyno numbers.

GOOD LUCK!!! I hope she sees the reasoning behind my thinking!

I don't either. Again, as a father, I certainly would jump at that.

Tell her, "OK, the car and the payments are yours." Then tell her you will buy the SS/NA outright with no trade in your name only, and she can deal with the other car.

Again, what are the payment arrangements? Are you currently making every payment on the current car? Do you have a good enough job to make the new payment consistently? Sorry, but I have to be a "dad" in this situation and ask the questions...

$418 a month isn't that bad from what others here are paying. The only thing mom might have issue with is that its an SS and that usualy means hot rod. I think she's more worried your gonna hurt yourself in it then be able to aford it.

And if your approved without a co-signer whats the hold up? Go buy your SS.

So the cars in their name then? So how much would you buying the SS straight up with NO trade in run you? They don't want to sign over the car? Fine they can keep it why should it be your problem if its in their name? And why should you care if they can't drive a car they own?

Seems to me the only ones who are gonna get screwed here are mom and dad. Go buy your car and leave them the other one to do with as they see fit. I mean it is theirs right? SO let them keep it.

if its on the title as: "Your Name" AND "His Name"....your screwed....

If its a "OR", your fine.

The only thing is, as much as id hate to say this, you probably dont need it.

Your mom is probably into the whole "youve had the car for only X amount of months, you dont need to trade it in".

HOWEVER, if you felt like being a huge ass, and probably getting disowned by your parents, take them to court. You can show that your the only one making the payments, then the courts can put the title in your name only....

dude, your current car is pretty good. i dont see why you need a new car. why dont just mod your 2.2? The 2.2 and 2.4 arnt that far apart in hp.

not to be an *******, or side up with your mom, but, you already have a fairly new car... why make bigger payments?

ahhh, i c. bad luck with your cobalt, and shitty service. i hope your next purchase is a lot better.

Here's my story (if you care):

Before the cobalt came out, when the concepts were beign shown, I knew I wanted a cobalt coupe in blue. and then right before the first cobalts hit the lots i found out there was a 2.4 ss comming out the next year. I knew i didnt want the ss/sc becasue it was jsut too much for me. so I decided to set my heart on a 2.4 in blue with manual tranny. So i saved and saved for the next couple of years. and finally i decided to make a deal and order one becasue my 6 month search for the perfect cobalt yielded no matches. and now i have my dream car after wating 3 years. a nice replacement of my 98 base cavalier sedan.

It sounds like you've come to a great compromise - a mature decision.

It's good to make peace at home.

You'll miss your parents a lot when they're gone - I know I do. You will remember any unresolved issues between you whenever you think of them and have regrets...

It sounds like you're on the right road though. You'll deff injoy your 2.4. I love mine.

Not only is it a little faster, but it handles better, stops better and is overall a higher quality build than your 2.2. People who talk about coaxing more ponies out of a 2.2 ignore that there's more to an SS than just the extra power. It's all the little things that add up to higher quality/better performing package as a whole. It's worth extra moola at trade in time too - not to mention the prestige of the SS heritage.

I'm not disrespecting the 2.2 in any way (it's a lot of car for the money,) but if you can afford to step-up, you won't regret it.
