my guess is a drop in performance with the lowered compression ratio

Well, I'm still dealing with the UPS clusterfuck. I have now been without my car for 2 months and it sucks. So I don't have anything to report yet.

My engine is complete and wrapped in plastic waiting to be reinstalled. It went together very nicely, no surprises. The engine builder probably took the thing apart far more then he needed too, but It has allowed me to see the thing in great detail up close and personal. He removed the crankshaft from the girdle, which was somewhat labor intensive, and probably unnecessary. He did it to balance the rods and pistons with the crank separate from the block, and to check and adjust rod end play. I am the proud owner of a box full of old parts.

The check from UPS should arrive tomorrow actually. Then we can order the new trans and torque converter and get it off to IPT. I anticipate at least 2 more weeks before the car is back together again.

IonNinja is right. The initial change will be a drop in performance. The reduced compression will lower the normally aspirated HP and will probably cause the Check Engine light to come on. Also, the trans is now going to be tuned with shift points for a 7500 RPM red line with a 3000 RPM stall, so its gonna feel a little funny until the turbo gets in.

I promise, when I have something to report, I will. Thanks for the interest.

Ignorance is bliss isn't it?

Nitrous on an SS wouldn't automatically make it faster than Half Cent's turbocharged Cobalt when its finished.

Plus 90% of the people are "chicken" to run enough nitrous to put there car into the 12's.

Has nothing to do with BOOM.

If your car goes BOOM with nitrous, your an idiot.

There's no reason for it to go wrong if you followed directions.

Seems that nitrous and exploding engines is fast becoming THE automotive Urban Legend.

A properly tuned turbo setup on your low compression motor will make for an excellent setup. I anticipate you running at least 15-20PSI and getting about mid to upper 12's when you setup is completed. Taking weight into consideration your times maybe quicker. If a 390HP 04 Cobra can do mid 12's to upper 12's at 3600LBS at 12 PSI stock your car can do better easy.

You said 400HP your trying to obtain correct? Is the boost about right? Found out your turbo setup yet?

To hit 400, I'm thinking I'm going to need to boost it to about 25PSI. That is completely feasible with the setup I'll have. Hahn has updated their information (just a little bit) and advertises the kit can possibly produce up to 500 HP. I won't go over 400 however because that requires some more serious engine machining.

halfcent, If you go to domesticperformance.com, look under pontiac grandam, 1999-2005, drivetrain, this shows a bullitproof 4t40e/4t45e that holds around the same as your looking for for $2495, upgrades additional. Maybe it might help put more funds towards the turbo.

I looked into Domestic Performance and am familiar with the ad you speak of. I tried for a month to get a hold of someone over there with no response. They would not answer emails or telephone calls. I'm not going to buy a trans for a guy that I can't talk to. IPT has had great correspondance.

And actually, I wouldn't have saved that much. Domestic Performance charges an additional $1000 for an LSD and converter.

Yah, I understand, I've tried reaching them as well, email and phone but no luck thus far. I just read what it was and thought that even though after optioning out everything, that you would actually end up with the stock, and then the built for the same price as just having yours built, but you can't do any business with them if they don't respond. I guess someone that puts that much effort into their car, would have already done their homework.
