I called around 3 places today.... and all of them said a little over 8 hours....


(one said 8.1... one said 8.5... forgot the third)


does this seem right???

I work in a car shop, and the place that said 8.1 is where we send all our transmission business to (we dont do trans's) so i dont think they would lie to us..


they gave me the wholesale hourly rate of $72 instead of $85 normal...

So if i was to get a clutch installed, it would be 583 and 20-50 for resurfacing the flywheel..

A little over 8 hours sounds about right for a shop to do it. A little pricey though (Or atleast i think so).

 

If you want to make a drive to the Buffalo area I've got a guy that can do them....he'll charge you 8 hours at $60 an hour.....don't really know if it's something you'd consider, but the offer is there.....let me know.....

 

places charge out the butt to change a clutch. They have to (of course) pull the transmission apart, which takes a few

 

O that is good for anyone that wants it too......He did my clutch and knows what he's doing with them......

 

I had the dealership install my CM FX400 and i was out the door with a bill of only $403 and that includes resurfacing the Flywheel and new tranny fluid.

 

I had some places quote up to ten hours. Intense had the best price on a clutch job that I found in my area. (585 out the door I think) I haven't done mine yet but I do have an exedy sitting on the shelf just waiting to go in

 

maybe i will see if CED can do it for me... since they are more "performance" oriented there.

 

Now, Ive never dicked with a FWD clutch (especialy balts), but I redid my clutch in my old S10, in 3 hours.

 

Yeah RWD cars/truck trans are so east to do, I will do them all day

 

how many miles are most people averaging before their clutch dies? im really not looking forward to paying almost a Grand to buy a clutch and have it installed

 

TAG Racecraft rates it at like 2 hours, about 4 or 5 to do it by yourself sooo your getting raped, ****!

 

If I ever need to, I'll be doing it myself.

 

Its a bitch even if you have a lift! With our SS you have to drop the subframe. This is not hard if you know what your doing, but its just a pain in the ass process. I'm a dealer tech myself and when anything no warrenty comes in like this your going to charge more so you don't lose your ass on a job like this. I bet this job under GM warrenty time only pays the tech 5-6 hours.

 

It's funny how warranty time to pull the motor is like 3x as long as the GMPP guide says it takes.

 

Changing the clutch is not an easy job. You have to drop the subframe out, support the engine from the top....blah blah blah. 8 hours would not surprise me at all.

Considering your in the Wheaton area, getting 72 an hour labor rate is a deal..(Ladies and gentlemen not from the Chi-town burbs...Wheaton/surrounding areas are expensive ass richies (no offense syP) (Im from Carol Stream...Corner of Schmale and St.Charles Road).

dude doing a clutch on this car is a BITCH

your whole k-member has to be pulled, along with the driveline, suspension, ect....its no fun

but it makes one hell of a differance

 

Yea that just ****** BS! If you saw the **** Hyundai has us do for warrenty and then the BS .2 and .4 of an hour they pay us for it you **** yourself. The only way dealer techs make $$$ on flat rate is by workin your ass off and over charging.

 

I have 24,000 miles on the stock clutch and I am on my second set of tires as of 21,000 miles

 

no offense taken.... wheaton is rich i know... i however am not.... haha.. my parents might be, but im on my own.. my own car payment, gas,insurance, mods.. all that ****.. thank god my job pays well

 

i broke my flywheel bolts on my celica cus i didnt use heattreaded bolts and i got a tranny shop to drop the tranny and take off my clutch for about 300..they said only about 4 hours...im friends with the guys so i know he wouldnt tr and rip me off..so i think 8 hours is alot for a shop....it took me 2 days

 

A friend of mine helped me do my clutch back when I had my RX-7.......man are RWD cars easier to do clutches! I know FWD clutches can be a bitch.......which is exactly why im holding off on upgrading my clutch and flywheel.
