My new winter / All Season Tires (SS S/C)

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

These tires meet and exceed our OE tire rating for every collumn including snow traction. I went into the reviews for the tires (about 300 reviews deep) and found people saying that they have gotten good snow traction and feel confident driving in all sorts of weather conditions.

Sounds good to me... I have a feeling this winter is going to be a b!tch.

I wish I had enough money to get winter rims, so my rims don't get messed up from all that salt.... but I owe to many people, to much money...

I'll probably go with those when it's time to replace the OE tires instead of switching between summer and winter tires.

As for storage I guess that's a great option if you can afford it. Personally I don't have the money to afford a beater. I looked into it and to get a car that was somewhat reliable cost more after TT&L than my winter tires did. Add to that insurance for the other car plus rent on a building to store the SS in, it makes absolutely no sense for me to store the SS for the winter.

Exclamation

The tires look great for overall performance but I still think your car should be garaged all winter with 18" rims!

for mine for winter I plan to get some additional rims ( 16" or so) and good snow tires (probably Blizzak).

Dunno yet if I want to get ugly plain steel wheels.. or somce nice looking ones....

16" steelies would do fine though, that's the route I'm going since garaging isn't an option.

You do realize your car will look like crap w/ steelies and will be a "Ricer" by nearly all who see it til you get your rims back on. I'm not gonna compromise my cars style for steelies. Getting some nice 17s w/ snow tires.

do you realize when your in foot or two of snow nobodys looking at your rims. even so if i did put steelies on my ride it would still be the best looking car in town.

I have to drive 100+ miles round trip twice a week on really crappy roads to and from grad school all winter. That and the roads here have HORRIBLE potholes. If a $60 steelie gets bent, who cares. If a $100+ rim gets bent then I'm pissed.

I refuse to buy 17s because the price increase is rediculous to keep overall wheel diameter as close to stock as possible. Average cost for 17" tires - $125.50, average cost for 16" tires - $92. That's a hell of a lot of price difference. Not only that but there's $30 per wheel difference in price between 16" steelies and 16" rims. Not worth it.

I will GLADLY compromise my car's style for a tire/wheel combination I feel comfortable with and that costs a lot less. Let people call my car rice if they want to. Point is I'll be driving around on tires I feel comfortable with and a helluva lot more money sitting in my pockets. I'd rather have the money to spend on real mods come next summer.

Awsome find man! Those are the tires I've been waiting for.

Cheaper.. All Season(so you can actually move around in the snow).. STILL decent dry/wet traction.. AND better treadlife!

What's not to love?

America's various weather conditions, including occasional light snow.
The price is nice, but I'm still getting dedicated snow tires on smaller rims for the winter.

Most people have bought the SS, not leased it. For me it makes perfect sense because instead of paying $2000 every 6 months for insurance it will only cost me $200 total for six months of winter storage($1800 difference obviously) and I will save money for mods and cutting my mileage altogther while you guys risk driving your cars in abnormal weather (snow mostly) and risking screwing it up.

I know most people don't have a winter beater which really sucks. Just sink $500 for a beater with a heater. No sense in risking your nice rides if someone hits a patch of ice.

Next year I will have my 2.8' pulley installed (already have the pulley) and the piggy back system, nitto drags, cold air, rims. I can't wait

That's my .02 cents.

Sneaky:

If you bought all that stuff but weren't planning on using it (installing it) until next year... why didn't you wait... I am sure much better stuff will be out by the time winter is over.

the winter beater thing is a tough subject though... You own a car that has state of the art saftey and you are going to go drive a POS durning the most accident prone time of the year??? its like taking michael jordan and putting him on the bench in the 4th quarter

LOL! A "Ricer" just because you have 'winter' rims? So that '02 Corvette that I saw last winter with black steelies was a "Ricer"? I know where I live (Ont, Canada) that if I see someone in the winter with steelies and some winter tires I don't think to myself "What a Ricer!", and at the same time I really don't care what my car looks like in the winter, as long as I don't slide into a snowbank. And as alleycat58 said, have you priced the difference between 17" and 16" rims and winter tires? That could be close to $500 that I could spend on some nice mods or 'summer' rims and tires. To each their own though, if someone calls me a ricer in the winter, I'll just remember them and look for them in the summer time and show them what this 'Ricer' can do!

P.S. Is anyone else really sick of hearing the term "Ricer"?

...I could really care less what my car looks like in the winter...I'll take safety over looks any day. Not to mention when a car is covered in salt, slush and mud it looks like hell anyways so even having a set of rims won't make that huge of a difference...they're buried in 2 feet of snow most of the time anyways.

If you ARE gonna get rims you might want to look into the new Goodyears that wrap around the edge of the rim just in case you run into massive pieces of crap or a hidden curb.
