Hey guys, so it's approaching the first weekend with my new SS/SC which means she's going to be getting her first wash.

Anyways, as I was thinking about waxing, my friend tells me not to wax on a new car, he says to wait 3 or 4 months before it's first wax. However my car was built in January 2007 and it's been more than 3 months from that date. So I was wondering, is all that bull crap and I can go ahead and wax her after my wash or should I wait sometime?

lol i had someone tell me the same thing, that you shouldnt wax your car for like the first year because the paint has to cure. now i am not an expert but that just doesnt sound right, so i am going to wax mine today

The dealership waxes the car before you pick it up? That seems to be quite wrong to me... I used to work @ a Chrysler dealership, prepping a car involved taking the stickers off it, taking those block things off the door, wash it, armourall, tire prep and put it out front..

you will be fine to wax your car now if you wish. applying waxes or sealers to panels that are just recently painted (within the first month-2 months out of a paint booth) should be avoided. As the new paint cures, it tries to expel gasses from the curing process that if are trapped in the paint/clear by a sealer or wax could cause your paint to have a fadded look or appear cloudy.

This only applies to using sealers or waxes on FRESH paint. Polishing new paint is ok. Just dont use anything that will trap those expelling gasses in the new paint.

Thanks for the tips guys, and Barry, I'm still working that out with the parents LOL I wished I was (undisclosed age) like you so i can go out without permission
BTW, which type of wax do you guys recommend?

Damnit I need to take my baby back to the dealership today cuz I notcied the Trunk Lid is a little offsetted to the left (my right opening is a lil smaller than my left, barely noticeable but when you actually concentrate on it, it's disturbing :thumbsdow :bye:

Mothers carnuba is very very nice, deep shine and long lasting wax.

or if you want a quick easy shine, go for a spray like eagle one nano, or turtle wax ICE.
but be aware they dont last on your paint long.

is the paste better or the squirt stuff thats pasty but not like a paste... Like the Mequires NXT has 2 types, the bottled ones and the paste ones... which is better?

do you guys just wash and wax or do you use polish too? Like I see they have those 3 stage kits with pre wax cleaner, polisher, then wax... good or bad?

hmm well where i work the cars are detailed before they even get to the showroom. We then detail them again, washed whenever needed before a sale, and then detailed before they're delivered.

But i work for ferrari ;), so i dont know what its like anywhere else.

I polish when I need to. I am actually getting ready to do my first polish on the cobalt after having it for 9 months I can see some swirls.

Eagle one nanowax is an AWESOME quick wax, but NOT the spray stuff. Go find the bottle kind that comes with the free microfiber towel.

As to the OP's question. Waxing would be fine, but I would avoid going Clay bar or using a hard cleaner wax or anything. (which you shouldn't need anyway)

One more question, what do you guys use to wash your car with? like a wool wash mitt, sponge?

And what type of towel do you use to dry with?

I just washed me SS, and it left a small scratch-like mark, does anyone have any idea how to get those off? maybe a little wax or something?

microfiber microfiber and more microfiber. thats all I use from my washing mitts to my waffle weave drying towel to my detailing towels. and wax WILL NOT GET RID OF SCRATCHES. It may help hide it a little but after a couple of washes it will pop back out.

If your just spot treating for scratches try Meguiars Scratch-X.

I've heard people say Wool mitt for washing the car. Yay or Nay? what's better real wool or microfibre?

Both are fine in my opinion, but who am I? Most important they are spotless clean with no dust or dirt in them to scratch the paint. And lots of clean water and rinse that car good before washing!

Yep yep.

I always wax my car within the first month of owning it, but my first wax is always a sealant wax.
