Turbo 2.2.

I've searched and all i ended up finding is arguments. I finally decided that i am going to go turbo on my 05 2.2. i want to know what is a good turbo kit to go with and if it will work good. i am going to use the SMT-6 http://www.perfectpower.com/products/smt6.asp

I talked to kenny at cobalt-addiction and he said that i can run 10psi safely on stock internals.

what all would i need to effectivley turbo my 2.2 and will the tuning software be good enough to handle the turbo. include links please

Thanks

Just find the same one when you have the money. Summer is here and the good weather will bring some more options for turbo's on ebay and such. Take your time, you will have plenty of options.

Please try a search.

Alpine is currently the only complete "kit". Anything else will have to be on your own. You don't have to do anything else to your powertrain for a simple system to work safely.

If you are waiting until you have the money, then the Garrett kit might be available also by then. I'm not a fan of piggyback tuners, but it works.

The reason you are getting conflicting answers is due to the various schools of thought. Your typical kit will make 8 psi safely. That should get you to just over 200 HP.

Remember that there is more to "safe" limits then just the psi. If you install a full kit just as it is designed, you will be fine. It's when you start messing with it, like turning up the boost that you start breaking stuff.

k thanks, which will be a better kit to go with the alpine or the garrett when they release it? would i have to take it to a dyno so they can install and tune it or can i have a mechanic put it on and then drive it about 2hrs to dyno tune it?

I would have to say the garrett kit...I'm not all up on turbos but I would thing that piggybacking is much less reliable the a proper tune....and if I'm not mistaken the newest alpine kit actually uses a garrett turbocharger in their kit

If you want your engine to blow up, go for it. j/k

But seriously, it would not be a good idea to just have the kit thrown on and then drive it around for a while.

You shouldn't have to tune anything. Either kit comes with its own complete tuning solution. Install and go drive!

They've changed to the Garrett. My kit had the Garrett.

My bad, I forgot we were talking about systems that used a piggyback. In that case, the drive to the dyno sure would be fun!

I bought the Alpine kit and had to cut my WOT plots IN HALF!

Still working on the tune as we speck.

Well then I'd say the Alpine kit is lacking a bit in that department.

They advertise it as plug and go. Never said you couldn't change stuff.
