Set-ups, which to choose?

Hey guys, since i get to start over on a brand new cobalt, just wanted peoples opp, direct knowlege, and set ups they have used them selfs, i have a few different ideas of routes i could take just want yours guys 2 cents on it. Also take into consideration my last car had a 2.7 with all bolt-ons and ported blower, but i dont belive it was that efficient making 19.5lbs of boost on the m62 with just a h/e.

SET UP ONE
-GM STAGE 2 w 2.9
-50SHOT
-ALL GOODIES, I.E exhaust intake all the bolt-ons, plus clutch axles etc...
-tune for 50shit
-port blower

Set up two
-2.6
-60s
-meth
-h/e/ dualpass
-tune with all bolt-ons including axles etc....
-port blower

first setup sounds like fun.... just because it would be different than the path everyone else on the site has taken.

i'm more for not having to deal with nitrous, but hell.... it would haul ass.

Yes the first setup is the way to go. You will have a very reliable car with the 2.9 and you will always keep your IAT's at a pretty good number. Then when you want thr extra power just hit up

I'd go option one. It seems that the 2.6 pulleys and smallers are creating more heat then they are worth and are ultimately causing failures.

In my opinion setup one seems like a safe, well thought out mod path that you should be able to get years of fun driving out of.

Another good and valid point, set up one would be a great, safe, and quick little car.

I agree. Setup one would be the way to go. With that setup you would be great for daily driving and as mentioned above on the occassion of a race you could spray. Our engine is down to take a 50 shot every now and again. Personally I would just go straight stage II with the cooling mods.

I like to be different so, I will choose option 2. I'm not much of a fan of Nitrous, it's kinda like gettin a tat, once you start, you just can't stop. Or so I hear. lol...You don't have to go as far as a 2.6, maybe that same setup with a 2.7 and you would be quite safe, with some very nice power.

option 1... or how about a 2.8 w/ 60's, h/e, and a 50 shot.

setup 1 is alot like what i have, except w/o the n2o, and drivetrain/ traction mods.
I just got done lightly porting my blower a few days ago. i picked up about 1psi from it, but more importantly my IATs dropped a couple degrees. also got about 6 degrees of coolant temp out of it.
i just gotta get the bottle and some damn traction mods (i have no traction mods at all, and running fairly bald stock tires).
i think mid-high 12's are definitly attainable with that setup.

*edit - I'm assuming we're talking a 50-wet shot right?
Also, if running a 50 shot, have you considered stage 3? I know no A/C blows, but it may be easier to run the shot with it setup by GM.
-or maybe i just remembered that you just got it.. and you probably don't want them to know your doing things worthy of a warranty revoke.

Have you considered doing some kind of gradual release shot? start it out at a 40 shot, that maybe builds to like 65.
^^^ causing less stress + making more power.

What was wrong with your previous setup and why did you get a new car, what happened to your old one?

but he wouldnt be running the nitrous all the time so i think a 2.9 s/2 and h/e is more reliable than a 2.6 even w/ meth.

2.6 with meth can run 22 degrees of timing, without issues, at lower iat2's then the 2.9.

meth is your friend, spend the 50$ on a pressure guage and 12$ o na low level indicator and meth is 100% safe.

say that for nitrous with 70$ in extras.

ture, i just think option 1 would be a good dd w/ an occasional track day where you can open up the bottle (fairly small shot).

New suggestion.

2.7+
Ported charger+
dual pass+
cobra+
Cams+
valve springs+
pistons+
custom tune =
rev to 8k, plenty of power, not too much pulley, and be reliable
