Problems Found With Cobalt After 3000 Miles

Has anyone had these problems? If so, do you know what the cause and fix is?

I am taking it to the dealer, but they don't always give the whole truth. I work in the service dept. at Jerome-Duncan Ford in MI, I know what goes on. (I am a GM lover though)

-Front en alignment seems to pull to right even on flat surfaces. Have to hold wheel left about 5 degrees.

-Glovebox squeaks/creaks at around 25mph. Mostly over small bumps.

-On cold starts after about 3 minutes of warm-up, I drive about 1/2 mile and stop at light or something and 3-5 knock sounds come from the rear of the vehicle. Sounds like knocking on a door. Fuel pump maybe?

-Passenger window is slow to raise.

-Driver window intermittently groans/creaks when going down.

-When moving steering wheel left and right a little, can feel play in the wheel. Only noticed this in reverse at idle speeds.

-Engine seems to run a little rough since first fuel fill.

-Engine or intake makes chirp/squeak sound when accelerating lightly-moderately.

Sorry for it being so long.

Thanks,

Red_Wing_2121

Here goes .

1) There should be no problems with the alignment, my car rolls perfectly straight at 5000km...I believe it's covered under warranty so you might like to get it looked at (for some reason I remember 12,000 miles)

2) I think almost everyone notices the squeak of the glovebox from time to time...I'm not sure if anything can be done about it because I can't find where mine is running but I just turn up the music louder

3) I've heard this before when the vehicle is shut off and I believe it's the computer checking the trunk latch...maybe yours is firing when the car is running I'll keep my ear open for it next time I'm out driving (which rules out the solution to number 2 lol)

4) The passenger seems to be slower than the driver's on almost all '05 models as far as I can tell. I'm not sure if this is fixed on '06s...maybe someone can check it out for you

5) Haven't noticed this on mine...maybe there is something stuck in the track or in the moulding around the window...try cleaning the hell out of the inside of the stripping all around and see if it makes a difference...if not take it in in case it's grinding against the glas or an internal part

6) Try doing this while you're sitting at a light either in neutral or first gear. I noticed this on mine tonight and I THINK it's linked to the speed adjustable power steering...I would imagine the power steering is loose at idle to stop the tires from grinding into the pavement if you turn the wheel left to right because we all know how good that is for your tires

7) I don't use premium in mine because the engine isn't designed for it...try almost totally draining the tank and go with an 87 or 89 octane for a few tanks and see what happens. You're really not gaining much by using preimum (ppl feel free to correct me if I'm wrong)

8) This I've never heard of and wouldn't even know where to start...maybe there's something in the forums or online about this

Hope some of this helps out .

Mine's periodic....only seems to happen very rarely, not even once per week and it seems to be settling since I bought the car 4 months ago. I actually think since I started putting my CD holder on the left-hand side it's gotten better...could be my imagination though. I'm not taking a chance that I take it in and they attempt to fix it an it gets worse.

I noticed some strange squeak on the driver side tonight but couldn't figure out where the hell it was coming from and was only when I hit certain bumps...here's hoping it goes away or doesn't get any worse .

The only problem I've had is the sunroof track broke. Other then that there's no 'little' things to get me all worked up. My car wasn't built on a Monday or a Friday!

My only problems are the passenger window being slow and the glovebox rattle.

Is it me? or does it seem like there's just whole bunch of little things? This isn't really good... and is actually making me hesitate when i'm about to spend $20,000+ on this car...
My friend has the base cobalt coupe and her interior is all coming apart at the seams, and the dealer doesn't want anything to do with it. She has only had the car for 6 months. I think she's screwed...
this is making me 2nd guess myself when i want to buy this car...

So far, I have had a rubber dust plug on the drivers' side B-pillar come up missing (I think when i dried the water from there, I knocked it loose myself). No problem. Dealer replaced no problem. Other than that, I have crested 10,000 miles with my car since June 27... It runs like an animal... This car has more ass than a roomful of weight watchers members! My only real bitch is the tires... these Continental tires suck *****!!! Blah!!!! Next time, I am going with the aluminum wheels!

Anyways, 10k and all is well.

i hear that sound in the back too, sounds like someone is knocking on the car or something, and i think the big problem everyone got is, when you turn the car on and then adjust the steering wheel all the way down and the car shuts off.

I mentioned this up above but I swear it's the computer checking the trunk release because it does it both after you have unlocked the car or after you shut it off and lock it. I'm not 100% sure on this but I can't figure out what the hell else it would be. It almost sounds like it's attempting to close the latch and since it is closed it produces a similar sound to that of the locks on the doors when they are already locked and you try to lock them again.

Maybe sometime I'll try turning my car off, locking it and standing by the trunk while I have a smoke to see if that's what it is because I know you can hear it outside the car as well. I at first thought it was only after you have opened and closed the trunk but it seems to do this even if you don't.

knocking

I have a 5 sedan base and i also have the knocking noise. I beleive it is the gas tank. That is the only logical thing I can come up with. The gas splashing around because I only hear it when I stop from going in reverse. Maybe the tank is in a poor spot or there is just no insulation to dampen the noise. could be wrong though.

these are just small things.... I notice you work next to where I got my car (buff Whelan). I got my red SS/SC there. Ask Jason the service manager about Mike Exelby. He will tell you some stories My car is a walking service bulletin. But he is a good guy

Good luck on the car.

LOL
I have a bowtie keychain and on my roadtrip to and from Tennessee Labor Day weekend, everytime I would adjust the steering wheel and seat, and then wiggle around a little, my knee would come up, shove the keychain and turn the key off... at 75-80mph!!! After about Pennsylvania heading south, I stopped at a rest area and pulled the keychain off... I thought it was funny, rather than annoying.

Mine has yet to have a weird knocking noise coming from anywhere. Although, I forgot the bitch about the hubcaps... those rattle all the time! But oh well, if I hadn't been such a cheap ass, I would've bought the LS coupe with the aluminum wheels next to mine.

my 06 LS has only 500 miles on it but the cloth on the passenger door right at the door handle to pull the door shut seems to be fraying like the fabric is cut to short or the plastic door handle insert is warped and wont cover the edge of the fabric wondering if i shouldnt have bought a neon

This is my first CAR with a cd player, so I'm not sure if this is the norm or not. In my boyfriend's apartment complex, there are a couple places around turns where some rocks have been pulled up from the shoulder and onto the road. I drove over a couple of them the other day and it made my cd skip. One of them MAY have been as big as a golf ball, but the rest were definitely smaller. It wasn't like I was driving on them for a long period of time either - I only ran over 2 or 3. I drove an '01 Chevy Blazer forever in all sorts of bumpy conditions and never had the cd skip, but maybe it's different with a car?

I don't have the knocking but I would discern that it's probably comming from the mufler. Either it has a loose baffle or is tapping something on it's mounts. I'm not sure what TSBs are out for the Cobalt but if so many people have this problem there might be one out there on this. As for the glovebox rattle, i don't have it either and don't know what it is exactly but if it's the door then ask the dealer to put small rubber padding around the inside lip and see if that stops it??

Before anyone decides to not buy a Cobalt SS because of the little things, why don't you go to other car forums and see what kind of problems they have. Every car has problems or "things people don't like." Just something to think about before you exile the Cobalt series.

Also the passenger window is not slower, it just seems that way because when you hit the drivers and passenger at the same time the current has the travel all the way to the passenger side where as the drivers side has less then 6 inches...

Lol.. yes, because the speedlimit for electricity is 10mph.

The window speeds are the same if you use the switch on the passenter side and not the drivers one. If you use both drivers switches its because more power goes to the drivers window.

The cloth on the door handles is a problem GM is aware of but haven't announced a fix yet. my dad works as a service manager at our local chevy dealer. he said GM is supposed to be working on a fix at the moment.
