This isnt actually a problem with a cobalt but my ramcharger. I just figured someone would know the answer. My power steering got a major leek on the trails last night. I think that the case for the thing may just be like rusted through and leaking through, but i am wondering if i disconnect the belt from the engine if its ok to drive the truck without power steering without breaking any parts or if its better to fix the leak or replace the unit. I have no problem with the fact that the wheel is hard to turn i just dont want the steering to seize up at any point.
thanks

You will lose more than just the power steering. You would lose power brakes too, but most important you will lose the water pump. You can drive it for about 2-10 minutes like this at a time before letting it cool down for an hour or so.

Yeah it is possible if its on its own pully but even if its not you can get one of the corect size. And driving it should be no problem or cause any damage the only thing is that it will be very hard to turn at at low speeds.

you could wear out the stering helping part of the power stearing but it would take a while. Just try to get it fixed as soon as you can. also make sure belt only drives PS.

wow holy shit some people are stupid....yes im going to disconnect my water pump?....i was refering to more part breakage issues that would make this truck unable to drive...and yeas im aware no power steering makes it harder to turn
