Anyone out there know what the weight is on the stock SS 5 lug wheel. Or is there anybody with a RIM with no tire that wants to weigh it and let me know? THANX

Don't know the exact weight of the wheel but according to Tire Rack the factory Pirelli tire weighs 22lbs. I plan on weighing a tire/wheel assembly next time I have one off.

So what is the stock weight of the rim and tire with 32 psi?

LOL^^^ Tire presser will make no DIff man.

But the stock tire and wheel together where 46.5lb when I checked mine.
My new wheels and tires are 41lb each.

so if your combo is 46.5lb and the tire is 22 from tire rack that confirms the 24.5/25 lb rim which is what I have read as well

Umm, Air has a molecular weight. So it will make a diference, but not one that you would be able to measure with a bathroom scale.

So if I exhale before a 1/4 mile run, my car will be lighter? WOW!

Will a 16" fit over the brakes?

yes. barely. but a ton of people have them without fitment issues. I would only use them for DR personally, but many people use them as winter tires.

Bogart is supposed to make some 15's that fit. They will have a built in spacer of course, that will make the need for longer studs. but 15's would be worth it.

Yes they will fit, the spare tire is a 16", and i have had to use it before.

Cool, I was just thinking that it might simply not fit.

Ok, Now what you have to think about is a light weight 16" rim with a MT Drag Radials on the front and a narrow 16" light weight with low profile on the rear.

The stiffness would limit weight transfer off the front and with adjustables in the rear, you could jack that Mofo up like crazy F uck S hit Balls (Fast).

That would be the best solution.

Or how about lightweight 16" wheels with sticky tires so the car could corner better instead of lumbering around.

How much faster does a smaller/lighter rim make the car? Say going from 18 inch 24 lbs each to 16 inch 18 lbs each?

stock rim weight is 24lbs without tire

A massive difference. The car would handle better, brake better, and accelerate faster. Big wheels are for looks. Im holding out for some 16lb 16" wheels. 8 lbs is A LOT!

When I bought my Miata it had 17" ricer wheels on it. I put some 15" Konig Heliums on it. The difference was night and day. The car was so much more driveable. It was a different car in every single way. Of course that is a tiny lightweight car but you would still notice a huge difference on the Cobalt SS/SC.

Yes but not quite as dramatic. Get the lightest wheels you can buy.

Does anyone know what the stock 16" wheels on the LT with the sport package weighs? I might just throw a set of drag radials on them if i get 18" rims in the future (if the 16's are lite enough)

The best wheels I've seen lately are my friends SSR Competitions. He has 18's with BF Goodrich KDW2 tires. His rims only weigh get this... 13 pounds and its an 18! Its friggin ridiculous, plus they dont look so bad either. (He has a Mini Cooper S though)
