View Full Version : Help me decide on wheels
IonNinja 09-26-2005, 07:04 PM Since it doesn't look like any struts are going to be out anytime soon ( ) I think I am going to use the money I had saved on some wheels but I'm stuck on a decision.
the wheels are:
Rota Grid in black w/ polished lip
http://www.machiii.net/images/wheels/big_grid.JPG
or
Rota Slipstream in black w/ polished lip
http://www.jlbmotorsports.com/rims/rotapics/slipstream.jpg
and they will be going on this car

I like both of them but I'm not sure which one would be best to fit my style of car. I like the Slipstream because they are low key and don't look too rice boyish. But then I like the Grids but not sure how they would look on an ION sedan. I can get the Slipstream for $559 shipped and the Grids for $650 shipped in 17x7.5. So help me out!
DJNateGnau 09-26-2005, 07:07 PM Slipstream! But then, Either one would be an improvent over the stock rims.

definitely agreed on that, the stockers are horrible.

IonNinja 09-26-2005, 07:49 PM those are stock ur kidding right :barf: :barf: TIMES 50
thats Saturn for you :-D
IonNinja 09-26-2005, 07:50 PM dude rota silver
the slipstreams are a little TOO plain in one solid color so I was hopin to spice it up a bit with the black & polished lip.
SSpartan 09-26-2005, 08:24 PM I hate to be the asshole of this post (as there always is) but i think the black with the polished lips is starting to be too common. When i bought my silver SS that was my plan like 6 months out. when i finally got the car i saw that style everywhere. it sucked because i really love the look. it will look great on your car. I am starting to get into white rims again but they are impossible to keep looking clean. but i would choose the 6 spoke rims they look a little more like racing rims then that particular 5 point. jeez i just read my own post and even i hate me..... :cssNET:
IonNinja 09-26-2005, 08:42 PM I had silver wheels on my last car so this is still something different for me.
I know the Grids look more like racing wheels then the Slipstream which is why I was questioning NOT getting them. But I guess if people think they will look alright on my sedan then I'll have to really consider them.
stlurbanpunk 09-26-2005, 09:07 PM The slipstreams look more like racing, go with a lighter color of the slipstreams if your car's color is light blue and darker if your car is darker. sorry cant tell if your car is like arrival blue or some other lighter blue color. Both wheels arnt that stylin though.
IonNinja 09-26-2005, 10:23 PM the car is Dragonfly green
a photoshop of the Grids I did real quick

I agree. They are not that impressive IMO.
^^^i agree with them but if i had to choose between those 2. I picked the rota grid the steel gray color. I don't know the gun metal w/the lip just doesn't appeal to me with the color of you car. If you go with the other rims I would stick with silver, white (kinda iffy i'd have to see a chop), maybe a black (a big maybe cause it would look like steelies the flat gun metal might look alright. I just don't like the polish lip rims with your car. Maybe if you had some chops we could get a better idea. I'm pretty good visualizing but sometime i like to be sure. If i could do the chops i would but i don't have the program. Good luck with choosing
jtohio4002 09-26-2005, 11:32 PM You can definatley find better wheels than those and some times for cheaper. I might go with a nice set of blings with the color of you car.

I agree, But between those, Slipstream!
IonNinja 09-26-2005, 11:56 PM well any other suggestions? I picked Rotas because I like the way they look and they are fairly light...sure I can get cheaper wheels but I don't want any 25lbs $99 wheels.
oh and heres some 5 min. chops for you Joen...I like them personally. :D

DJNateGnau 09-27-2005, 12:06 AM None here.
I don't konw if you aready got your wheels but I'm gonna go back on what i said I'd go with the Rota Slipstream.
When i saw the first chop you did i thought it had ensured my decision but then that second chop you did made me got back. But i'm just not a fan of the gun metal/black rims with the polished lip...sorry thats one thing i'm sure of.
IonNinja 10-03-2005, 05:28 AM I love black wheels w/ polished lip. When I had my old car I was going to go with them a couple years back but decided to stick with silver because it just wasn't the right color. However I think the green will go perfect with them.
I stuck with my original choice and got the Slipstream. I'm too much of a fan of 5 spoke wheels to choose anything else.
I ordered them about 5 days ago...
17x7.5 Rota Slipstream in black w/ polished lip and 225/45/17 General Exclaim UHP tires. Should be here any day now :D
saturnd00d 10-03-2005, 02:28 PM Not that I am biased or anything, but check out the "Drag Extreme Alloys" line of wheels.

Some pics of the Rotas on my car...I'm happy with my decision. Although no more whoring until I get this 4x4 lowered. I was going to hold off on the Sprints until struts came out but now I don't think I can wait.
DJNateGnau 10-10-2005, 08:57 PM lol, Yeah thats pretty high up. Must be like climbing Mt. Rainier. LOL
IonNinja 10-11-2005, 03:03 PM yeah I'm tired of using a step latter to get in my car, the Sprints must go on!
hey I'm happy with his choice as far as wheels. At least they're not chrome - we grew out of chrome wheels in the 80's.
Rota Grid in black w/ polished lip all the way!
DC52NV 10-11-2005, 03:20 PM they look good. a drop and they will look even better. ;)
You should of bought a coupe - why did you get the Sedan?
glockglade 10-11-2005, 04:34 PM Hey i have bought eibach on all my cars and I love them you should look into the sportlines for your car if they make them. You won't need struts as long as u don't go offroading, b/c eibach is designed to work with the factory struts on their or their brand.
IonNinja 10-12-2005, 09:47 PM You should of bought a coupe - why did you get the Sedan?
QC's are more expensive
At first I wished I had gotten a QC but the sedan has grown on me...and now I look out more for sedans then QCs. Especially now that I have my wheels on and I have an idea of how clean this car can look, I'm glad I got it now.
As far as Eibachs, I have nothing against them...I don't believe that Sportlines are meant to be run with stock struts but eh well. I already have Sprint springs sitting in my room. I saw how huge the wheel gap was and I had to get a spring with a significant drop.
