I'm too girly for the Cobalt

My car went into the dealership Monday for some minor warranty work. My sunroof broke, the silver around the inside door handles is chipping away, the black on my DIC button flaked off, & a large chunk of paint came off of the car under the driver side door. The service guy at the dealership blamed it all on my finger nails & high heel shoes! I have seen other cobalts with the door handle issue, I never saw the guys hands but I am pretty sure they were not wearing long nails. I myself do not have fake nails, they are rather short actually. Just thought I would share this strange dealership experience with yall.

I have to say that it sucks for female car enthusiasts. None of you get respect... Sorry to hear you got the runaround at the dealership!

F-that....

Did they fix it anyway?

I just had my trim pieces replaced under warranty for the flaking paint.
It is a well known problem...

Yeah... trim and door sill paint coming off is pretty common. That's total BS...

maybe you should have worn a shorter skirt... I know that would get my attention.

omg now thats a new one i havent heard before..quite rediculous if you ask me.
All i can say is...fight them tooth and nail..literally. enough bitching and complaining will almost always make the dealership crack. Especially when you are a women. believe it or not yes we get screwed over with a lot of things when it comes to cars, but every women i ever had come into my dealership got what she wanted once she complained and complained and complained....and i think we are much more persuasive and pushy when we want to get our way...while most men are passive and give up. LOL

Plus its not like this is something new with the balts.
the sunroofs are a problem,
the flaking paint is a problem,

Unfortunately i dont think there would be any TSB's on GM Dealerworld but its worth having them check. at least they would see your not the only one having the same issue.

my dealership replaced my trim pieces under warranty...your dealership shouldn't have made it a problem.

They fixed it this time.... He said they will not fix it again, due to the fact that I am the cause of the problems.

well as long as they do not write anywhere in your service history that they will not replace it take it to another dealership...this place sounds like a bunch of **** heads.

Yeah! What Donna said!

Sounds like it might be time to find a new dealership!

I think the point here, (which you should use) is that regardless of whether its caused by having fingernails or not....
that is NOT a valid reason to deny warranty.

If their paint cannot stand up to regular use from a woman with reasonable fingernails.
thats their own damn fault.

OMG OMG OMG! The sunroof is still broke. These dip*hits told my husband they could not figure out what was wrong with it, so they cleaned it. WTF! I just spent 35 minutes on the phone with GM, for them to tell me they would make note of why I am upset. The service manager said he would order a new sunroof & bring the car back Tuesday. They had my car for 5 days, could they have not ordered the sunroof & replaced it while they had it. What on earth is wrong with these dealerships. My husband asked for managers while he was there, but they left a lunch for thier 3 day weekend.

I would have flipped the **** out right then and there. If they want to deny a claim, fine, they don't have to be sexist about it.

TELL ME ABOUT IT. Yesterday some guy came over while I was putting air in the tire of my boyfriend's SS/SC (yeah, roll your eyes, we have the same car) and asks if I know how to put air in a tire, all the while trying to look down my shirt.

OK, now, I'm not much of one to go after people over something small. But to me, this isn't small. Sorry boys, it ain't the 50s any more and we're not prancing around the kitchen in our high heels and manicured nails. People try and dick us over (in more ways than one, I hate being hit on by sleazy service managers and techs) enough as it is, but to me, if they would have said that, that would have crossed a line. I seriously would have been tempted to get on the phone with a lawyer and tell them they can stop trying to deny my warranty because I'm a woman or they can prepare for a court date. You bet your ass if they would have made a racial remark, some minority would walk out OWNING that dealership. "Oh I'm sorry Mr. Indian Guy, but your sunroof issue is probably caused by your turban hitting it, we can't warranty that."

Ask yourself how badly do you want to go to this dealership again.....you could seriously screw them like they've never been screwed before. And not in a good way either. 1) Local media would have a FIELD day with them and/or 2) I'm sure local women's groups would LOOOOOOVE to hear what happened and you better believe they'd spread the word quick that if you're female, you better not get your car from this dealer.

I had a problem with my door squeaking every time i closed it (with approx 1200mi on the odometer)...all they did was clean it and replace some seals. squeak came back later that week. They hired a new service manager, so last time i took it in for warranty work (loose heat shield), they fixed the heat shield and the squeak. car didn't leave the dealership until it was fixed.

Look at it this way. It's a business and once they have your money you become an after thought (for the most part). I just bought a balt from a pretty good dealership yesterday. Before I left I told my sales rep that what Im really interested in is the new Camaro when it comes out. Am I really? No. But I saw the dollar signs light up in his eyes. He was already setting up scenarios for me to see the car. Keep in mind that my new car hadn't even left the lot OR the camaro hadn't been built yet. But did I just have a new best friend that would take care of me and my Balt? I would hope so. Let me put it to you this way.. couple years back I worked for Cingular wireless. I would vigoursly screen my customers to make sure they got what they wanted and what they could afford. Why? Because If they cancelled or got disconnected within 6 months I would lose that off my commission check. After the 6 months new customers took priority over the old. Face it, everybody looks at the bottom dollar. Well the point to my pointless point is that if you can make a friend on the inside(dirty or not) you got a better chance of being treated like you should of in the first place.

ps- you should have punched the sucker in the face after that nail and heel comment. That was ridiculous

i tested this...

I dressed up as a women and brought my car in, and i wore a damn short skirt. To make a long story short, they re-painted my car and installed twin turbo for free!

haha...ya right.

yallabalt, i don't know...maybe the service guy was gay?

Not that there is anything wrong with that...
