The worst luck ever

I have not posted on this site very much lately due to being so busy at work, but I needed to vent over some of the worst luck every with my local Chevy dealer. If you are ever in Vegas do not take your car to Fairway Chevorlet. Their service department is as sharp as a marble. Let me start may tail with my first cobalt. I got it 04/06 and totaled it in 08/06 when a drunk driver in a full size dodge conversion van hit me head. I was lucky to be alive, check out my gallery if you are interested in seeing the pics of my first car. Well I got a new cobalt in 09/06 and was really happy. It had the stage two kit, extruded honed manifold and sport cat back exhaust right off the lot. Well I had nothing but problems from day one with that car. GM wound up buying it back because they could not fix it. Refer to this thread for a discription of all the problems I had with that car; https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/problems-service-maintenance-69/dealer-recomending-gm-buy-back-my-car-48820/
Needless to say I now have a 2007 cobalt SS/SC that is fully loaded. It is my favorite of the three I have had. I have had it for about two weeks. I took it to the dealer yesterday so they could swap all my GM performance parts on to it. I picked it up yesterday at 5pm and I left the dealer. I new right away something did not sound right. The exhaust sounded way to raspy and the idle was really iratic. I know these cars have a history of a iratic idle from the factory but this was really bad. It would jump up to 1700 rpm and then drop to 400 rpm and almost die. Then back up to 1700 and then back down to 400. It would do this about 5 or 6 times and then finally level off. Well I drove about three blocks in trafic to the high way and got on it in 2nd gear on the on ramp. Just as I thought, my redline was still 6500 rpm. WTF!!! They did not tune my computer for the Stage 2. I called the dealer and told them about it and that I was on my way back. They said there is nothing we can do for you tonight and to just bring it back in the morning. The also said it was safe to drive my car this way. I called BS and told them I would be there in 10 minutes and they beter be ready to put my in a rental. So I get there and get a rental and go home. I go back to the dealer this morning at 8am and walked right past the head guys secutary and right into his office. We yelled at each other for about 15 minutes. It turns out that they never swaped my extruded exhaust manifold over and tried to tune my car with a 06 tune. How do you not realize my new car is a 07 when I got it from you??? These guys are idiots. They put two guys on my car to get the manifold swap but told me they could not do the new tune until tuesday because they need some code from GM. I know this is probally true, but if they knew what they were doing then they would have been able to do this on Friday. They then tried to tell me again that my car is safe to drive until they can tune it on tuesday. RIGHT!!! The car is blowing black smoke because it is runing so rich and this is good for my motor??? I swear I know more about cars then they do. Needless to say I am in a rental until tuesday. Sorry about being so long winded, but I really needed to vent to some people that will understand. So the question of the day is do you think I have the worst luck with the cars ever???

Had no choice, part of the GM buy back deal. I requested another dealer but they said I had to take it there.

Isn't the 06 and 07 stage kits two different part numbers? That would be why. They used the calibration file for your previous car.

Additionally, if your 2nd car came off the lot with GMPP parts, how did you get them off the car before GM bought it back?

I gave the car back with them on it. Part of the deal was that they would pay the labor to swap everthing over to my new car. I am sure your right about the calibration file thing, but the dealer of all people should know that the 06 calibration is differant then the 07 one. I shouldnt have to tell them that, but I did.

sounds like a shady deal to me. Call up Gm direct and tell them your situation about calibrations, and take their advice on what to do. They may end up even telling you the GMPP stuff wouldnt work in the 07's and that you would need to exchange with the dealer 06 for 07

All the GMPP stuff is a direct fit for the 07 and the 06. The problem I belive is the computers on the 07's are diferant from the 06's. Something about the 06 has a 24 bit computer system and the 07 has a 32 bit computer. This is part of the reason the 06 tune will not work on a 07. I could be wrong, but this is what I heard. The funny thing is the dealer wanted to swap my computer from my 06 to my 07 and I told them no way. For one, I do not think this is even possiable. And for two all my problems on the car were electrical so I sure do not want any computer parts from my first car on my new one.

With your car crash did you get a wicked settlement from the drunk driver. And god bless you are alright from that accident.

Sorry its off topic.

man I didnt want to read this b/c it was sooo long but Im glad I did b/c this make me think twice about taking my car back to my dealers service department b/c they arent the sharpest tools in the shed. They already tried to screw me over with my clutch....which went out after 2 weeks of driving the car BTW. But stay on their asses and if they give you anymore trouble just let them know you will let your attorney handle it from now on and then they will be begging to help you hahaha. thats what I did.

oh and BTW man that wreck looked nasty glad to see you got out of it ok....same thing happened to my brother he got hit head on my by a cop though.

Yeah no kidding. Reading a nonstop email or thread is like talking to someone that won't STFU! Your brain needs a visual break.

I was never really liked the STI to much, and I testdrove a 07 EVO MR. But man that price, almost 40k for the EVO was a bit much for that type of car to me. I figure Ill drive this balt for a while and trade it in on the new camaro when it comes out. I really have always been a chevy man anyway. To each his own anyway.
