Took one out for a test drive

Went out yesterday to the local dealer and he let me take the SS out for a test drive. I have to say that it was a peppy little car for its value, I am seriously going to consider one, today I am going to drive the 350Z, and then the LS2 GTO. I hope to make my decission by the end of the week, I will let you guys know what I go with, if I get the SS you will be seeing a lot more of me.

I had an 05 GTO to drive for a few months, that car will blow you away

The SS/SC cobalt is definitely funner to drive than people would think that's for sure.

Best of luck on your decision!

If the 350Z and GTO are in your price range then you should also consider the 05 WRX STi

Thank you, I did not even think about it, I will see if I can get a test drive in one of them, and then I guess that I should also take out an EVO 8

If you want serious power get the gto. If you want decent power and good gas mileage..look into the cobalt ss. I was going to buy a gto but with the amount of driving i do, gas would cost me a fortune. 350z's are nice but Ive read about too many problems with them.

Vette is allot more ...and you can get GTO's for almost the same price as a mustang ...except you get 105 more pony's to play with and I would say a nicer interior plus a car you dont see in everyother driveway ...

If I had enough money to get a GTO, I would chose that over anything else in the price range, hands down

For $32K you get one awesome package - 400HP LS2, 400ft/lbs TQ, IRS, excellent handling, great brakes, high quality interior, RWD, and the new for '05 styling

Of course I don't have $32K, so I'm getting the best performer in the 20K price range, that being the Cobalt SS S/C

I drove the Z and the GTO this afternoon.

First off I would have to say that the Z felt about the exact same speed as the cobalt, although the Z that I did drive was an auto, and I would want the 6 speed. The interior of the Z looked like crap and was not appealing to me, while I thought that the exterior was nicer than the cobalt. If it were down to these two cars I think that I would go with the cobalt because almost 10K less and almost the same speed(and definitly a lot faster if I took the ten G's and spent it on the car)

Now we come to the GTO, holy hell was this thing a beast, the sound was the greatest part, big V8 6.0L roaring under the hood, the acceleration was crazy, threw you back in your seat all the way up to 120(as fast as he would let me go on the test drive on the highway). And this car only had about 600 miles on it, from what I hear the LS2 only gets faster with age.

Decisions descions, but I think that I am leaning toward the GTO right now, so much performance for less than the cost of the Z. and only 10 grand more than the cobalt.

I went to look at a GTO last week and with the gas prices, no way, the car had a "gas guzzler tax" of like 1K bucks! lol A very sweet car none the less

i really like the interior of the 350Z's, i think thats a very well balanced car, and the exhuast note is sweet, but hey, i have an SS, so you know what i went with

i drove a RSX-S, SRT-4, 350Z, Spec V, and a 03 maxima 6spd before making my decison, i have to say that after this car, i may go back to a maxima, i know alot about them, and know how to mod them up good, just a car i like idk why

The one that I drove was "demo car" the dealer said that they had so many people wanting to drive one that they tood one and just use it for that purpose, they really let me open it up.

Same with the GTO, they let me take it out no problem, the only one that questioned me a little was the Z dealer. But once they saw that I had a decent car already they let me drive it.

Now go drive an Evo and STi and come back to report.

There's nothing quite like being in 1st gear in an AWD car around 3K RPM's and flooring it and the car taking off. Do that in any other car and tell me what happens. That and the cars respond very well to mods (the Evo more than the STi), much like the GTO.

But in all seriousness, test drive lots of cars before you make your decisions. This way you won't regret anything. Just keep us informed as you test drive. The new 06 STI's are on dealer lots. The 06 Evo's will be out shortly.

You are wrong, the SS is a great bang for the buck, the evo and the STI really dont do that much for me, yes AWD is nice, but I do a lot of highway driving and both of those cars really run out of steam above 80. So I think that I am down to making a choice between the GTO and the SS. But I am going to go and drive the STI before I decide, but not going to be looking at the EVO, looks too much like a soap box IMO.
