I'm getting a Wave Runner soon and i wanted to know if i could get a hitch for the Cobalt SS S/C. I didnt really notice any spots under the trunk for one.

i am pretty sure i have seen them for a cobalt. it was in some catalog. i was also curious about one because i would like to have a bike rack to take on and off

 

no, the normal cobalts can, there is not a part number listed for the ss cars due to the lower rear valance.

I'm pretty sure our manuals state that the SS/SC should not be used for towing. I'm not fully aware as to why we can't but it might have something to do with our transmission/clutch setup. I'm pretty sure installing a hitch on an SS/SC will void the powertrain warranty though...

 

I think it has to do with the suspension. The original Saab application of this trans design and clutch setup was for 5000lb GVW vehicles that were fully capable of towing. We actually have an updated version of it.

HAHA, This is funny. I just moved this past weekend and went to Uhaul to rent a trailer. Well I pulled up in my Cobalt and my brother met me with his Ford Explorer. Uhaul told me that his vehicle is forbidden from attaching a Uhaul trailer to it...

Then she pointed out the window and said "But if you have a hitch on your car, we can approve that"

...Needless to say.... I rented a truck

its not recomended, anything happens to your drivetrain, able to prove it, they will void your warranty

 

people do it all the time no problem... why don't you tell the Equinox owners, Vue owners, etc that. You didn't say FWD specific vehicle. It's actually smarter to pull on dry land with FWD because of the pull and not the push of a RWD. Your take offs are smoother with less wear and tear to the trans.

 

I'm sure it isn't recommended but I bet people have pulled with less capable vehicles. In fact I seen people pulling small loads with a Cavy. As long as you keep the load light and baby the **** out of her off the line, it should pull a Waverunner with minimal problems. Now as far as the appearance?

ever seen a saturn sky turbo pull a 2000lb trailer? I have. Ever see a Pontiac G6 pull a small camper? I have. See, the thing is FWD, RWD people have **** to pull. Having a hitch on a Cobalt is no different then if it was on a Camaro or a Transam (trust me I've see it). Sure it looks dumb but people have tastes for different things. Me personally. towing in any kind of car that doesn't say you can tow with it is a bad idea.

 

I was just asking im not sure if im gonna do it but i gotta figure out some way to get this wave runner to the shore and back it would look kind of funny though seeing a small wave runner trailer on a cobalt

 

you do know that the sky is RWD right? just because its possible does not mean its recommended. the cobalt is not meant to tow things, thats common sense. just because its capable does not mean its suited too.

 

i saw a cobalt lt with a hitch the other day.. pulling dirt bikes... confused the hell outta me..

 

as if the front wheels didnt already have traction problems, add weight to the back for more

 

you must not have read, fwd cars have now been named the best towing vehicles around. be ready for those fwd semis!

 

I've seen one Honda CRX tow another CRX with a dolly...

 

Just watch the tongue wieght if you do do it. Can't be over 1000 lbs. I did a hitch from hidden hitch on my gti to get my bike around and it was fine. People give you funny looks but you gotta do what you gotta do sometimes.

 

You don't know anything about towing but thats ok, you can't know everything.

BTW, I know the sky is RWD. Thanks in the lesson of 101 Cars. I was using an example that the cars are not far off even though they are 4cyl and one does FWD another doing RWD.

 

I am not contesting the manual nor am I going to get it... but,
FACT from 92-94 my buddy towed a Kawaski jet ski(old stand up model) to lakes and beaches in central Florida with a Honda Civic DX (3 dr hatch) without one problem!
Although, the old Kawi stand up w/ the trailer couldn't have weighed more than 500 lbs max
aren't the new jet skis like 500 lbs each? or is that just the 3 seaters?

I'd love to have a hitch for a bike rack.... but cut my rear valance.... i don't think so
