View Full Version : Bought TAG's Flash by email
M88ArRamadi 05-31-2007, 01:19 AM I bought TAG's Flash by e-mail and they were to tune my car by HPT logs......They never did. I've sent PM's an E-mails and received no supporting replies....WTF?!? We discussed that they woud give me a base tune and I'll log my car under WOT and they will make corrections......NEVER HAPPENED!!!! It's been about 2 months now and I waisted $100. They were quick to reply when they knew that I was interested and had money in hand...as soon as I sent the money.....NO SUPPORT:cussing: . I hope no one else has to go through what I've been going through with these people. Just be careful which vendors you use. :bye:
Mel, Rhys, and/or Mike if you read this PLEASE RETURN MY E-MAILS / PM'S!!
I could've saved you a $100....
M88ArRamadi 05-31-2007, 01:32 AM I know that now!!

Eddie 05-31-2007, 01:11 PM y do people insist on mail order tunes, those arent good tunes people get a full dyno tune, its more worth the money as they can tune it real time and see what the car does after each tweak. spend money the right way. come on peeps.
I by no means am saying tag doesnt know how to tune but when it comes to mail order tunes it doesnt work no matter who tunes it. why do u think hypertech power programers are so unpopular w/ gm vehicles, its cuz it doesnt work as well as a real dyno tune.
silverSS 05-31-2007, 01:14 PM tag may be great at tuning, but YOU were the one who bought a mail tune, and knew you were going to have to go through this and now your going to bash them? Seems like your own fault to me
BlackSS/SC 05-31-2007, 02:29 PM He said that they were going to make ajustments to his tune once he had logs. Now there is no answer from them, how the hell is that his fault? Ya mail order tunes aren't the best and that's why they were going to make adjustments for him.

Great someone actually read my orginal post. THANKS BlackSS/SC !!
"We discussed that they woud give me a base tune and I'll log my car under WOT and they will make corrections......"
They were to continue doing this until tune was strong, safe, and I was satisified.
If you tune your car on the streets......you would be doing the exact same thing as I am except for I was having TAG make the corrections.
The whole reason I bought this service was to use it as a guide and a learning tool. I'm new at tuning and not the best tuner and always willing to learn how to do more.
Psykostevo 05-31-2007, 11:01 PM Street tuning > Dyno tuning
Remote tuning can be done, but there is a delay in results. It doesn't matter if you are in the car or not, seeing the logs you ought to be able to tune it.
Sucks that TAG has been unresponsive. Did the person leave TAG who was supposed to be doing the tuning?
And $100.00 is a small price for them to charge given the hassle that they could go through.
hatrickstu 05-31-2007, 11:05 PM hm another dissatisfied TAG customer? wait, whats that, oh yeah its a trend...

Thats why I jumped on the (so called) deal
SilverBalt13 05-31-2007, 11:08 PM Where the hell is the supercharger swap! But thats shitty about the tune. Silverss you make no sense.

I'm guessing you have HPTuners if you were getting email tunes?

Anyone who was waiting on the twinscrew might just get PLAIN SCREWED!
I don't know why everyone is waiting for someone else to do something first. So many of us could have gone turbo instead of waiting. I wouldn't want my car to be 4-5 years old before the "Next big thing" came out.

Ya a shop near me said they would make me a custom turbo kit for 4k installed with it tuned also. Its looking more and more tempting now.

What type of setup are you running? I've probably tuned more cobalts than TAG anyhow.

No kidding. I think the twin screw is going to be as expensive as a turbo, but less efficient. You could turbo the cobalt with Air to air, and air to water intercooling. I would get forged pistons for it though, so you could take better advantage of the higher boost levels from various turbochargers.

Looks just like Gilberts Motor. I'm tuning that setup right now. I am guessing that your motor is not all together at the moment since you have valves and balance shafts on order?
Who ported the supercharger? I have ported about 18 of them so far.

SilverBalt13 05-31-2007, 11:23 PM Damn your going to run those mods and trust a mail order tune..... Tuning is one of the most importnat parts. Dont be cheap haha

I think tuning is the most important part there. And it is a lot more tiring to tune by proxy. He might not have any options.
The 2.5" pulley and 10.0:1 pistons has me a little worried, because those are hard to tune together, though not as impossible as some say it is.
SilverBalt13 05-31-2007, 11:28 PM Ya I see alot of people going from a 2.5-2.6 pulley to 10:1 pistons and 2.9 pulley. Dont you think its to much boost for the compression
M88ArRamadi 05-31-2007, 11:33 PM I'm changing it a 2.7". I though that 2.5" was a little much
BTW I live almost 3 hours from a reputable tuner (I live in the middle of the Mojave Desert).......he's only done one cobalt before.....MINE. I think it was around $300 for my dyno tune. He didn't mess with the timing....he only fixed the afr (34 pulls!!!)

34 pulls is a lot of time on the dyno....for being the first cobalt its kinda understandable though. I spent 6 hours on the dyno with my tuner getting things right. Since then I've logged about 40 hours more. Now I can get the afr tweaked in a few pulls, usually. I hate using a dyno for anything other than rough changes or establishing a baseline. The street tuning is so much more beneficial, but it can be more expensive (right Psykostevo ;) ).

Yeah it CAN be expensive. You can pay for a big ticket like me and have to deal with court dates, or you can just set an appointment and put it on a machine. That's the only benefit of the dyno is safety and security. Other than that it can make unreliable tunes, because a daily driver should be tuned long term. Codes don't pop up right away, and tuning the AFR on a dyno can make you set it falsely too high thinking you perfected it, only to find out that it was too lean.
M88ArRamadi 06-10-2007, 02:27 PM BTW TAG still hasn't e-mailed me, PM'd me, or called me. Great Support:thumbsdow

if you plan to keep going through them then get ready for a lot of waiting thats all ive done since i ordered anything through them. but good luck ive given up.
BooSSted 06-10-2007, 11:37 PM Well TAG was a great place when Jim and Mase worked there. They have both since left TAG and Mel is running the show, and from what I know, he is TERRIBLE when it comes to customer service.
I find it funny that TAG has not even responded to this thread....they just as well go out of buisness if they don't plan to give the customer support that is deserved to people spilling out money to them.
M88ArRamadi 06-11-2007, 12:44 AM Yea this pisses me off. I'm contacting the BBB and paypal.
dude, shoot me your email address, I have a TAG tune I've played with and its shown good results.
M88ArRamadi 06-11-2007, 01:18 AM Like we talked earlier....I should have payed you the $100!! ;) I'll PM you.
Psykostevo 06-12-2007, 01:36 AM Like we talked earlier....I should have payed you the $100!! ;) I'll PM you.
I should have "La Banana" this whole weekend. If I get anywhere with it I will share the results with you. It has a nearly identical setup to you.
M88ArRamadi 06-12-2007, 12:11 PM TAG finally e-mailed me.......they gave me someone's tune and said for me to try it.
The tune was fro 700 ft above sea level........I'm about 2500 ft abouve sea level.
TAG you were suppose to use my scans and tune my car...not someone else's...I'm not paying $100 to tune your other customers cars.
Psykostevo 06-15-2007, 07:31 PM I have "La Banana" for the weekend, and should have it tuned by Sunday. I am not saying that the tune will be guaranteed to work in your car too, but it will be the one I get running in Mine. Here is a list of Mods. I know I forgot a few..........

Psykostevo 06-18-2007, 07:46 PM I thought my car was fast.....WOW...you have numbers yet?
Well after a weekend of frustration with the 2.6" on the pump gas, it was not feasible. Had to go up to a 2.8" to make it work on the 91 octane. FYI
With the 109 octane tune, and the 2.6" the Interceptor Gauge reads ~430hp at 7,200 rpms
I know it's not an exact science, but in relation to the 310hp that we would get before the cams and pistons, it's definitely a huge improvement. We have tried taking it to the track twice. First time resulted in a broken axle, second time after custom axles resulted in a destroyed clutch. Now since the New clutch, it has not been back to the track.
I think we should take it to the Dyno on the 109 octane tune to get some hard numbers.
