JBP Control Arm Bushings destroyed

I was rotating the tires on my car today, noticed quite a bit of play in the left front when torquing them. Looked under the car and I see about 1/2 inch of movement in the control arm bushing on that side. I have had them on the car maybe 3-4 months and they are shot already!!

Anyone else who had this happen, what did you do? Get the intense racing ones?

Anyone? I need to do something this weekend.

yup. Mine are like that too. Notice when i took out control arms to drill holes for the traction bars. Fck. Jbp "said" they would warranty them, BUT they want the old ones first. AND, they think i installed them wrong (which i confirmed i didn't). BUT, wtf am i going to do for wheels while i wait for new ones in the mail??? So, i haven't taken them out to send them in (they would prolly get mangled when i deinstall them anyways).

So ya, it is a good product (when they are new), but ****> now.

So I guess I gotta order the Intense ones then. Dammit. I guess I could send mine back, but I don't really want another set of crappy CABs.

They aren't solid.
Powell Modified Cobalt Control Arms

The Powell modified control arms reduce camber and toe change deflection under hard braking and cornering, and improve straight line cross wind stability; there is a side effect of reduction in power hop on launch. There is a small increase in ride harness, but a reduction in braking "clunk", caused as the control arm deflects and hits the cross member, when making hard stops.

Modified control arms use spherical joints and Delrin inserts. All Powell installed control arms receive a ball joint protective heat shield. Please note that the outer ball joint is not serviced separately by GM and complete control arms have to be purchased if the ball joints are no good.. Customers that send in arms for modification have to be sure that the ball joints are in good condition.

The installation is simple, the parts and work are not; complete Cobalt modified lower control arms cost $1075.00 for the pair, deduct $400.00 if you supply the control arms.

$1075.00

Ah, sweet, thanks. Gonna have to hold off on that one for a while, would be pretty fun though. Handling must be nice with those. Thats what I wanna do eventually.

I am seriously gonna look into having solid ones made now. I'm going to talk to a couple machinists I know and see what can be done. This is bullshit. Intense tells me that its supposed to be loose, but only one of them is like that. Now I gotta wait till tomorrow for a response. AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

I was thinking about making a spacer (washer like) out of some high quality plastic we have at work. That way it almost makes it like a solid mount. But would be biatch to get on either side and slip it in as you install the control arm.

Ok, I got the intense ones installed, and all the wheel-hop is gone. Not exactly anything shocking, thats how it was before. Just glad to be able to drive the car hard again.

Apparently, I like it too much, as I got pulled over for an improper start while driving home. He also told me that me (GM) muffler was too loud, based on the fact that he shouldn't be able to hear it from where he was sitting. It also took him 13 blocks to catch up to me, he actually followed me into my driveway after I was already heading to the house, even though he didn't say I was speeding (I was driving maybe 35-40 after the launch, it was really only a 1st gear kinda thing). Gave me two tickets, Improper start and Improper lane change, even though the descriptions did not say I did anything wrong.

Back on topic, Is anyone else interested in a set of metal spherical bushings to replace the CABs??

This is what my old ones look like. Both sides were totally shot, the centers were just about able to fall out on thier own.

I orderd a replacement set from intense, and they are broken now, have been for a couple months. I am working on having solid ball-joint type ones made, obviously I am too hard on the car for these to last, two sets in less than a year, at almost $200 a piece. **** that.

hmm, i dont get it, from what i have read the CABS seem to do wonders for wheel hop, but no point in investing the money if they are going to keep getting chewed up.

is this an isolated incident or are more people having problems with the Intense Cabs.

the more I read the more I am starting to like the whole control arm assembly from powell.
