View Full Version : my car can't accelerate hard until its warmed up...wtf?
DSMissed 06-17-2007, 06:59 PM Why is it that even on a 60-70 degree day...I can't jump in my car and hurry somewhere? If I try and accelerate much at all, or get into boost, it falls on its face until I let out on the pedal. It kinda lurches, like it isn't getting fuel or something. But after a few minutes its just fine.
Anyone else have this problem? I'm just wondering if its something I need to take it to the dealership over...
an0malous 06-17-2007, 07:02 PM think of it like your woman slapping you in the face when you jump on and just wanna drive her.......
she wants a little time to get warmed up.
KillerBee 06-17-2007, 07:03 PM should it not run better when its cooler though except when you first start it up then have to give it a couple mins before you hit 140 mph
an0malous 06-17-2007, 07:04 PM cooler yes. 10 seconds after start....no.
yes. when the car has sat for a while it will hesitate. dont know if its normal but you arent the only one. it did it when stock, does it now with gm stage 2. no idea why:wtf:
DSMissed 06-17-2007, 07:15 PM Mine never did it til stage 2....and even if I drive the car, let it sit half an hour, and then drive it again it'll do it. Not always, but sometimes. And I'm not talking about jumping in, starting it, and hitting 100mph 10 seconds later...this is just regular city driving, not going faster than 40.
probly should take it to the dealer then. mine only does that at very low speeds in like 2nd gear. its gone long before 40mph
06blackSC 06-17-2007, 08:44 PM car is still in its warm-up loop mode. no car actually likes being womped on when its still in closed loop. (or is it open loop? i keep messing those two up). just drive normally for a few minutes and all will be fine after. you may notice an exceptional amount of black smoke from the exhaust too when its cold...the cat hasn't warmed up either and can't do its job properly. when the cat doesn't do its job right, the computer picks that up and kind of freaks out to try to correct it.
Red2.4SS/SC 06-17-2007, 08:58 PM i have this problem too even after letting it warm up sometimes

It's open loop. Think of it being open loop because the computer hasn't begun to use the 02 sensors at that point so there is no self checking going on. Then when the 02s and coolant temp is warmed up enough it will start to make adjustments to the AFR and then the it will check itself using the 02s as if it's performing a loop (output to input and back).
007Cobalt 06-17-2007, 09:03 PM Watch your Water Temp, Romping on a cold motor (unevenly warm) will shorten its life.

+1 rep for good info
DSMissed 06-23-2007, 12:39 PM Ok, its actually getting worse now and it does it even after its warmed up, in just about any gear, under any form of acceleration, hard acceleration or just easing into it. During the same drive I'll accelerate once and it won't do it, and then I'll accelerate again and it will.
W. T. F. This is getting to be really irritating.
Blankobalt06 06-23-2007, 01:14 PM Mine does the same ever since I put my CAI in. Once it is warm...it's ok
DSMissed 06-23-2007, 01:56 PM Mine didn't do it at all until stage 2...now its gradually getting worse...any ideas of where to start looking for the problem?
DaREDss 06-23-2007, 02:00 PM You should let your car warm up anyways cold metal moving really fast not good.... All forced induction cars are pretty much like that. My dads supra in the morning is a bitch!!

Yep, saved me from having to explain it. +1 rep
marerick007 06-23-2007, 06:11 PM Mine used to do that when I was in Texas and it got really cold during a start up...took it to the dealer and they raised the idle about 200 rpm during startup I think. After I let it warm up for a few min, it was fine.
SilverBalt13 06-23-2007, 06:19 PM Take it to the dealer. When the car is cold it will be jumpy but it wont really feel real slugish. The issues you are having are not normal.
