Well it's been over 7-8 months now since I got my SS/SC and I love it. The car is the best thing GM built since the Camaro. I have though the unfortuante problem of putting into storage for the winter.... it makes me sad. In Michigan this car would make a great snow pusher... not extactly fun if you know what I mean.. It's going into storage until next March on November 1st. I'm not taking any chances with it.

Now, onto the topic at hand (as stated in the title). I love my car, hate putting it away.. I have a Cavailer that I am using right now to use for a winter beater...hate it.. good car for what it was but it has well over 200k miles not KM's like our canadian friends here... I went to price a lease out on a Cobalt Sedan. Nothing fancy just plain jane crank windows and power locks to get me through the winter and it costs just a little over $200. The money is not the issue (as long as it's reasonable), it's the fact that I do drive alot and leases aren't cheap.. if you go over mileage.. my SS has 22,500 miles on it right now since March. Most of it was from joy rides and screwing around.. winter is the direct opposite, I hardly drive if I don't have too. this thing would only take me to work and back. 30 miles one way. It would be 6300 miles just to drive to work.

My question is.. does leasing sound better in this situation then flat out buying another used beater? I would hate to buy another used car... yuck! want something dependable and new or newer. Opinons or other options welcomed..

With leasing, you are paying for it all year long for at least a few years. Seriously look into renting a car from the local 'rent a wreck' or whatever the el cheapo company is called around your neck of the woods. Even if it is 50% more expensive each month than a lease, you can get rid of it after the Winter and still be money ahead of a lease at the end of each year.

I think that if money isn't an issue, or at least the main issue, go for the lease. Now take into account the miles you will put on it. It sounds like you are but if you go over on miles it is a killer on the bank account. If you love your ss so much and are thinking about keeping it I would consider buying the base 'balt and keeping your ss for pleasure only. That way your ss will stay nicer longer and you can do alot more upgrades than if it were a daily driver. Just some things for you to think about and maybe help.

if you go with the leasing option, i got my cobalt from joe lunghamer in waterford......cobalt sedan, automatic, "crank up windows", cruise control for $161/mo.....fyi

why not just get a used AWD car or 4WD truck... sounds like a better option to me...

Man , if you can keep the miles in check I would lease . If u think youll possibly go over in miles , get a little more off the bat . Bumping up to 15K miles added less than $20/month to my payment . Im still gonna go over though :lol:

Thanks for the opinons. Well in case you haven't noticed the gas prices driving something 4x4 sucks :/ I want a econ saver. Sedan base is a reasonable choice. went to look at a sedan ltz and they wanted over $300 a month! yuck! When I am not driving this it's going to sit and I will drive the SS. If I like the sedan I may just buy it up after the lease is up. I've driven a few when mine has been in service. They are not that bad of a ride. quiet and comfy. :)

Yeah I have a base ls sedan right now as a rental and it does have a decent ride to it. Thats about all I can say good about it though.
