question about my friends redline
So here goes, my friend is having trouble with his redline. He says that the low power light comes on, and that the car started to hesitate, and backfire a little bit. He tried to give it gas but the car wouldn't go, so he coasted along into a parking lot. He turned it off, then turned it back on and still did it. Then he did it again and it didn't do it anymore. I guess this happened yesterday cuz he says it hasn't happened anymore. So what do you yall think? What should I be looking for? My thought would be a clogged fuel filter maybe? Not sure let me know thanks
Sounds like it went into limp mode. Does that occasionally depending on what mods he has or what he was doing right before than. More than likely no CEL, just low power.
Find out what he was doing along with what he has done to the car. That will help.

borla muffler, K&N cai. Thats all the mods he has done. He said he was just driving and when it went to 4k rpm it happened. Also its been raining really bad down here in San Antonio, and he said he went through some puddles of water the day before. Right now he has been babying it hasn't gone up to 4k rpm.
tell him to unplug his battery, get some electical cleaner, or maf sensor cleaner, pull his maf...give it a good clean....put it back in, leave the battery unplugged for 30 minutes.
then start it up.
if he doesnt have one, tell him to get a hydroshield.
im 99% sure its just a little water.
ive had this happen.

whats up guys.
ok heres the story....
for a while now, past few months, i have been getting a CEL on and off, before it was a multiple cylinder misfire...i found out a couple days about that, that CEL has been going on and off because there's a problem with the redlines, where if you turn your A/C on and you run the car the CEL will go on and off. dunno if it's still the same misfire code or not. but at anyrate when i ran the car without the A/C there was no CEL at all.
so having figured that out a couple days ago i felt better. well like dragonsfire said it has been raining alot here. the problem that i had this morning has been going on for the past couple days. whenever i push the car a bit (about 50% throttle or a bit higher) the car kinda hesitates, so usually i just let off the gas and switch gears. well this morning i was taking off, and i had it about 50%-70% throttle, and it hesitated for a half a second and the engine went into low power mode, it threw a CEL once again, and the car was back firing like crazy, it was a steady boom boom boom boom, about 4 or 5 times per second. and i tried to give it a bit of gas but it didnt rev up at all. so i threw it into neutral and coasted into a parking lot where i turned the car off, and tried to turn it back on. it turned on fine, but it was still in low power mode and it was still backfiring. turned it off again. waited 2 minutes, turned it back on worked like a charm. it was smooth, no backfires, nothing at all normal, apart from the CEL still being on. i was able to make it back to my apartments, just fine. then i drove it to work, then back from work without any problems at all. when i turned the car on to get home from work my CEL was gone already (i had turned it on and off about 4 times total before hand), and havent seen a CEL since then. driven about 20 miles.
right now i put in a full tank of gas, and i bought some fuel injector cleaner. my car has 21k on it, and it's my first time putting that stuff in.
the day before this happened, there was a huge rain storm that i got caught in the middle of. the water was seveal inches high on the highway and i was driving through all of that. however i didnt think that water would effect a redline because out intakes are above out wheel wells...but hey if the fix is as easy as electronics cleaner then i will be forever greatful...cause this car is starting to have to many problems for it's own good.
my mods include a borla muffler (not a full exhaust), i took out the 2in pupe after the back axel and had it replaces with a 2.5in pipe. so i have a full 2.5in exhaust. and then i have my K&N CAI. that's all i have done to the car.
also the spark plugs are brand new, just a week old.
so what do you guys think? still electronics cleaner? or does this sound alot more serious now? (hope not lol)
thanks for all the replys
ok heres another update. just took the car for a spin again.
when i'm light on the gas the car is fine, even when its at 3k or 4k rpm. however if i get on it, then after a second or two it starts to hesitate like it's not getting any power. so i let off the gas. if i were to keep my foot ont he gas then it would probably start the back firing thing again. so right now what i'm thinking is either those spark plugs arent good (Autolite Double Platinum APP3923), or i gotta check the fuel filter, or maybe my CAI has a leak in it...any opinions/suggestions?

I'd go check your intake tubing. Chances are with all that rain, water has probably soaked the filter enough that it is now dripping back into the piping. If you notice where the filter of the K&N sits, it sits right under the ending edge of the drain rails for the hood. Water tends to run right off the hood down into those rails and off onto the filter.
Check that along with cleaning the MAF sensor. More than likely it should solve some of the problem, but if not there could be something else going on with it. I know what your talking about with the hesistation and haven't found a way to eliminate it from mine. It only happens maybe 15-20% of the time in mine and definitely NEVER had the CEL from the A/C being on. I've been running it solid for the past 3 weeks without incident. Could be that I'm customed tuned though too.
