What do you want GM Performance to make for us?
What do you want GM Performance to make for us?
We as a community have a unique opportunity coming up shortly. Many of you know Tom from Crate Engine Depot. He was recently asked by GM Performance division to travel out to Detroit and meet with some people at GMPP to discuss what kinds of products they should be making in the future. He asked me specifically about things for the Cobalt, so ofcourse I'm going to ask all of you! He expects the meeting to be within the month, so we have that much time to get our suggestions in.
For instance, did you know that GMPP has a suspension kit for the Cobalt that pretty much eliminates the wheel hop issues? They have it, but they have never gone to market with it.
Post up your ideas folks! Let's hear what you think GMPP could be offering us. For instance, they already make a cold air kit, exhaust systems, stage kits, and a whole bunch of engine parts.
Here are my suggestions:
1. Update the J-body supercharger kit to make it available to the Deltas
2. A cold air kit for the LSJ's
3. A high flow downpipe and converter to complete their other exhaust components.
4. And how about that suspension kit?
Expect me to edit this thread heavily. I won't let needless post whoring fill up space, so don't get mad if you find your post is gone.

Second would also be a GMPP Downpipe. It doesn't make sense for them to make a cat-back and a header, but no downpipe.
There's my 2 cents.
I think options 4 followed closely by option 1. I would love to strap a supercharger to my 2.2L!
But I think making a suspension kit would sell better, just because more people need the traction, 2.0L, 2.4L, and 2.2L guys.
You would think that people would want to put down the power that they already have, rather than just add more power to make wheel hop and spin worse.
I don't see them making a DP, because that would then conflict with emmisions. Every street production part would be available to California, and a high flow DP most likely would not pass that inspection.

I definatly want gm to make a cold air intake for the 2.0 so I don't have to worry about my warranty. they pretty much have the rest covered. they definatly also need to make a suspension kit to stop the wheel hop.
Your option 2 has already been done but for some reason they discontinued it already.
Look at line 118 of this excel spreadsheet for all available or future parts list from GMDealerworld. I've tried to order it myself to see what happens but it just cancels my order.

Downpipe FTW
If they could do a DP w/ cat for under $500 I'd buy one tomorrow.
Complete LNF swap kit??
I'm loving the thought of an M90 swap too...but that def. won't happen.
better stage kits, one that will allow yo to run 2.7 and 2.6 pulleys, ability to machine s/c snout, s/c porting, cams, valves springs guides retainers seats, lower comperssion pistons, axels, clutch and flywheel, and better suspension pieces than the FE5
Better suspension parts, sway bars, struts, springs, mounts, etc...
EVERYBODY can benefit from those parts not unlike a cai wich wouldn't work on all 3 models... bigger market = bigger profit for them..

There are pleanty of parts out there to make our cars fast but handling needs help. Alot of people drag or auto X these cars and like cobalt addict said, something that will bennifit all 3 models will sell alot better/more than something specificly for one model GM needs to realize that not every one can afford an SS but there are still alot of 2.2 owners that want to mod/upgrade their cars.
Suspension upgrads FTW!!!!

A performance clutch would be an excellent idea. We love modding our cobalts...but we know our clutches aren't great. One that won't slip w/ 250 whp (many have this type of of power). An HID kit would be cool too.
I want some sort of Performance LSJ Transmission. Something that can take a beatin. I'd really like to see a Performance Crate Engine. A bulletproof 600hp capable engine that has a ported high flow head.
I don't think they need to be making parts that are already available for the LSJ(clutch, axels, intakes).
