Ok, this new engine that will be going into the 2008 Sky and HHR is the link below. This is the current engine that is in the Saturn Sky, and Chevy HHR, and soon to be 2009 Cobalt.
http://www.allcarnews.com/gm-ecotec-...e/gallery/2375
-Note how the whole engine itself sits side ways with the pulleys pointing toward the passenger side of the car (same as SS/SC, and with every other Cobalt)
-Note how the alternator is almost equivalent to where the other one was on the SS/SC.
-Note how on the downlet pipe (looking on the back of the engine) it is almost sitting in the same place as the LSJ (Which means easily conformed to the body of the Cobalt with little to no body modifications).
-Note how the engine block looks almost identical to to the LSJ, with its diamond pattern below the crank case.
What do all of these mean? It means that with all of those "notes" that I pointed out, that they follow the same basis/platform as the LSJ, which only means that Chevy obviously planned it out well to fit into the HHR, Sky, and soon the Cobalt.
This was also a good look at the engine, if ya'll haven't seen it yet.
All Chevy has to do is just drop in the LNF engine into the Cobalt, and there we go. I tried to see if I could see the engine mounts, but the "rumors" that are going around about a LNF engine in a 2009 Cobalt SS seem to be true so far.

Good info, +rep for you fellow PA man.
so not to sound stupid or anything but i can't figure this one out.
that really bein planned on the 09 cobalt? cuz from what i could tell they were done with the cobalt after next year's 08 model and that they weren't gonna do the facelift for the car planned for the 09 model.
i know that they are keepin the sky and hhr and would put it in there but that's true for the cobalt as well then?
one way or another good find about the engine, i was kinda wantin to see it considering it was said to be turbo'd with about 260 horse or so.

i have a feeling that the Cobalt will be around for a long time, maybe as long as the Cavalier was... these cars are selling as fast as they can make them. Wouldn't make much sense to shitcan a good selling car, now would it?

if they get rid of the balt, the entry level car would be the aveo? good thought, but ive done my researching, there not getting rid of the cobalt line, their just getting rid of the ss/sc for 2008, and (rumor) introducing the LNF engine into it.
Cobalts are popular dude they wouldn't get rid of em'.
no doubt, GM is not about to get rid of a good thing.
If anybody is interested, I have some ultra high resolution pics of the LNF on my website:

I noticed I don't have some of those so +1 and thanks for posting!

the one member on here had a quote from a GM person and said that the Cobalt SS will be back, and not gone for long.
well this is our answer...(LNF)
yeah...its only a perfect fit. if they put a turbo'd engine into a suv that IMO looks ugly, and saab uses it, and saturn, it would only make sense for this engine to be placed into the Cobalt.

but in the one pic with the intercooler, the intercooler is off to the side of the engine, it should be in front of the engine in order to fit/get air to it...unless thats just a diagram to show how it works?

just because it fits and makes sens doesnt mean they will do it, they didnt put much effort into a ss balt once so, ther isnt much to say they will do it again. Also why have 2 2.0 turboed fwd cars from chevy just doesnt make sense one year after the hhr. Its wishful thinking but I doubt it. Chevy wont make competition for one of its own cars a year after it comes out
good point though...
Think about it this way its not only the hhr but the camero too , and idc what you say the camero will be competivly priced with the mustang 25-30k it will have the gm 3800 series3, the ls2 or ls1 base v8 and the ls6 for the top model, so why would one company have have 2 turboed cars and a v8 for under 30k???? too much for one company jmo

i think the cobalt will be around still...
running fast and getting good gas mileage... whats not to love? (besides the high insurance)
Ford also said that the Taurus was done.. and the official LAST taurus ever made...
you knot the Ford 500??? yea, its getting the Taurus name... and the sable is replacing the mercury model of the 500

doesnt make sense from business standpoint if the car was going to be turboed it woulda been that way from the beginning
Too bad HPT still hasn't even created support yet for the 2.0 SIDI. I bet you could squeeze a hella lot more ponies then 260 HP crank out of it. Im willing to bet there is about 30-40 HP more to be had in tuning alone.
yeah your right on that...but the whole line of cobalts should have had side curtain air bags, but they didn't....and the previous and current years their now coming standard, but thats not a reason to stop making balt's
Problem is the LNF engine would have come too late in the game and the cobalt would have had to play a tougher game of catch-up with its competitors back in 2005. GM already had supercharged ecotecs running around in the form of cavaliers and sunfires with the supercharger upgrade package. Installing it and selling it that way from the factory on their new small car seems to have been the next logical move.
