The ratchet mechanism on my e-brake lever stopped ratcheting, so now I pull the lever up and it just drops straight back down. Anyone else had this problem? I just paid the first payment on it when it happened and the tech at the dealer said they had a few do it before. It kinda makes me mad because I like to park with the e-brake so I can hop in and run it for a couple seconds before I put it in gear while I get the windows and moonroof open or the air on and they created the case almost a month ago and I still don't have it with tuner bash a week away.

i know there was someone here locally to me who had that problem. he ended up just using something to prop it up. he took it to the dealer but they told him the part was on backorder. dont know what else to say at the moment. i can try to find out for you i dont think he is really on here much anymore

so bring it back to the dealer and have them replace it. thats under warranty. they can't say anything about that

Have you checked the cable and lever yourself? Might be something simple you can fix in a few seconds instead of waiting for the dealer.

You wanna hear something almost as bad???? I ordered 2 caliper rebuild kits....so BASICALLY.....a baggie with some rubber seals in it 3 weeks ago. They came in YESTERDAY. Parts can sometimes be a real SOB to get in. :(

Whats wrong with the spoiler

I told my dealer to order one and put it on the bill of sale as if it came with the car. He did but when it came to ordering it, he was taking his time and in one of my "bust some balls" conversations with him (when I got a problem, I'll drive out there and see him in person) he told me that if his supplier doesn't call him back, he will order one from chevy's stockpile of already painted, ready to ship spoilers that he can get next day. He still ordered it from a supplier who had to color match and install it (I have a 4 step color that's hard to get right) and the supplier has big swirls in it from him buffing the clear.

I'm giving them until Tues. because I have more bitching to do with them because of my spoiler too

Hey just take the brick cover off with a screwdriver underneath the handle, there should be a little hole where you can put it. Anyways after you get it off just pull up the handle and push in on the ratcheting piece so it locks into the gear. Mine broke too a while back and so I did that until I got the replacement. They didn't say anything about it at the dealer so I wouldnt think it would be a problem.

I'll pull it apart and take a quick look at it and since they just gave it a couple yanks at the dealership, they know it was bad and if they give me hell, I'm gonna give them a firestorm. :thumb:

I just looked and the ebrake is still on backorder. The SPAC case process can be a pain. GM does not all the dealers to ask if they will SPRINT one out to you. They will wait for a dealer to look at a list of parts needing to be SPRINTed out.

What I do on a backordered part is that I place the order, wait for it to backorder (which is usually right after ordering), then I create the SPAC case. After the creation of the SPAC case, you have to wait 24 hours for a GM to play around with it and for a dealer to offer it. Then after the 24 hours is up, go to any parts locator to see which dealers has the part and start calling them. Most dealers is willing to sell the part as long as it's not already ordered for one of their customers.

A lot of dealers doesn't try and search themselves to hurry up the processs. They just wait on GM to do it and they dont get in any hurry to do so.

Below is a list of some dealers that has this part in inventory. One of the dealers has 3 of them. That dealer would be the first on my list to try and call.

what dealership in toledo are you going to? i went to dave white when her rotors were going bad. the second time i was there the car had 6,000 miles on it and they claimed abuse. take it to brandon at ed schmidt or jeff at northtowne, but before you do, let me know and ill give them a call for you. brandon warrantied my wiper blades out with 21,000 miles on the car

Ed Schmidt Maumee. It's the ratchet part of the lever. When they finally get one, they already wrote it up to replace it.

You might have to call a few of those dealers yourself. Like I said before, some dealers just lets GM do the searching and they will only search a couple of dealers then try and rely on the dealer to do the rest.

edit: If they/you call and find a dealer that is willing to sprint this out, get their dealer code and contact your dealer that has it ordered and have them call TRACS and tell them the dealer name and code. Then GM will contact that dealer and have it FEDEX overnighted to you. It will not cost you as a customer any money for the overnight freight. GM will take care of the bill.

Just went out there and got the "nobody called you?" response. They got the part in yesterday. After I set up an appt. because I couldn't take the thing on my own per their rules, I talked to the Business Manager and felt like I was getting the 23yr old yunk punk response. He asked who my salesman was and I told him not to worry about it and that I'd take care of the problems on my own and left the parking lot. He left his office to track me down and must've ran to the window in the front of the dealer because I saw him looking, so I gave him a courtesy squawk as I left. :guns: :cussing:

I hope they get ya fixed. Ya gotta love it when you have something ordered for so long and when ya finally get ahold of them and tell them that you know that they have your part, they say "It just came in". Makes ya want to kick m in their junk lol.

I am ahving a similar problem with my car now. My e-brake is broke and my seatbelt doesn't like to release sometimes. So I could get into an accident on not be able to get out of the car :cussing:

the dealership is still waiting on one of my parts to come in. But my dealers service center is usually good about making sure I get what I want.

just gt mine fixed today umm all i found out is that fucking gear that locks it breaks off but my uncle works at a dealer and took one off another cobalt

Mine was actually the metal tooth that grabs the gear, think it was a spring or something. Could probably fix it on your own if you felt so inclined. But you still have a warranty so why would you wanna do that?

Im out here in california and I had the same problem about a month ago and the gl dealership had my car in and out in two days, but I know what it's like waiting for something on back order, I've been waiting a week for a slave cylinder

I have fixed the ebrake on my wifes balt twice now it is the ratchet gear it just falls out of its seat in the brake it is just placed in there with no welds or bolt to hold it in its a crapy design. And just another reason why we will never buy a gm product again.

Anyone have a small write up on where this ratchet piece goes. I have the piece, but I don't see where it's supposed to sit in there?
