13.82 1/4 mile time in ss/sc
Hey i was talking to my mechanic the other day and we were talking bout the track and he has an 06 ss/sc same year as me completely stock on stock tires and he said his best time at the track was a 13.82 and that was launching at 5,600 rpms. I havent been up to the track yet but i know the elevation is like 90 i think i can get that info but i thought this time was a little too low for a stock ss/sc to run, i know at that time you needa wear a helmet just wondering wat you guys think.
13.8 BONE STOCK...but i gotta agree with an0malous,BS...only a handful of ppl on this site can pull at 14.2-14.6 bone stock...some even pull 14.1-14.3 with the s2..all depends on the driver, but driver mod on stock balt will only get u to low 14'2...no 13's
ya thats wat i figured if u launched that high that theyd spin like ****, the info of the track is this:
Elevation : 90 feet above sea level
Concrete pad : 745 feet
Total length (including shutdown area) : 4000 feet
Width of 1/4 mile : 60 feet
Width at shutdown : 60 feet
Timing system: Compulink StarTrak

If he had proof, i wouldnt automatically doubt the time....
at a track right at sea level like that, who knows what might happen with perfect conditions.
but as soon as you said he launches at 5600, that shows that hes just talkin out his ass.

ya i asked for a slip and he said he threw it out ill head up there in a couple weeks and letu no wat i run, i dont want to tool on my car to much since i want it to last through out the loan, wat should i be launching at when i get up there im all stock with stock tires too.
2500 is a good safe place to start
from there you will have to go by feel.
if the track is hookin hard and its hot out, you might be able to even go as high as 3-3200 or so.
sometimes if its cooling off, you might be better launching at 2.
just start at 2500, and practice and experiment from there.

We are at sea level with temps ranging from 78 down to 65 and still cant get into the 13's (14.272 with a 2.235 60 foot with perfect shifts at 7K). even if we pulled a 2.0 60 footer I still dont think it would nail a 13.
Maybe he had some tall slicks to shave down the ET. I wouldn't consider that stock, but it's stock power level so maybe that's what he meant. I don't see any problems launching at 5,600 if you have tires that can hook and you pre-load correctly.
Ask him what he cut for a 60ft.

ill be in there in a couple weeks for oil change, i no he said bone stock on stock tires i no the clutches suck and i figured if u launched that high ud destroy clutch along with axles i think he may be bullshitting me, i no that elevation its not out of reach but completely stock i dont nessecarily believe
Yea the clutch is questionable, but the axle breakage is easily prevented with pre-loading. I supposed he could have simply side stepped the clutch (or at least not slipped it much). No slipping it and it isn't going to burn up.
i know that my car will spin tires(tire) more than wheel hop if i launch on the street higher that what i was launching at the track.. if i just stomp the gas in first it will wheel hop, but if i let the clutch out at around 3500 (not dumping it either) the tires will spin and not wheel hop..
but i don't have stock tires either. and i never ran anywhere near that

I ran a 14.2 stock at NED last year when I first was getting into racing (check the official drag times on here) Fastest I've seen a stage 2 hit on NED is 13.8 by Greg (MRstaticX) and me and Keith hit 13.7 and 13.6 respectively there last year earlier in the year.
First off we all launched at 10% ETC Which is about 1200 RPMS and that was all we could do with keeping traction.
Did this guy work at Dobles, Silver car with black hood and red SS emblems? Cause that guy told me he ran a 13.2 stock, and I explained to him to show me his slip and that I ran 14.2 stock. His slip was for a 14.4.
But maybe he got a super Cobalt with his stock tires cut down to the wire to make slicks lol I don't know.
Well figured I'd add my 2 cents. peace.
