Cobalt SS Supercharged in Import Tuner
Cobalt SS Supercharged in Import Tuner
Not sure if this is a repost but I just took this picture from my Import Tuner magazine. sorry for the bad quality, integrated laptop webcam.
In reference to the cancellation of the SS/SC in 2008 the article reads: "General Motors announced that they will discontinue production of the chevy cobalt SS Supercharged for 2008: seems like GM executives weren't impressed by the vehicle's showstopping time attack win at Buttonwillow Raceway last year. The Cobalt SS will be renamed "Cobalt Sport" and the forced induction variant will be dropped altogether. While the Cobalt SS Supercharged was a competent and acceptable alternative to a Civic or Mazda 3, it was plagued from the get-go with that tacky rear wing and so so performance. It was rated at 205hp, which beats a Civic Si but many felt that it should have been so much faster considering all of GM's powertrain options at its disposal."
Sounds like they aren't too fond of our cars. Sad to see they only put us with the Mazda 3 and the civic and didn't mention anything about GM Stage 2.

Boy, you can really tell that's an import magazine. Pretty funny how the "so-so" performance beats pretty much everything in it's class, save for the new MS3, and that's only slightly better. Maybe they should read what their colleagues over at C&D found out what the lowly domestic tuner did against the Civic Si, GTI, and even the V-8-powered Mustang in the Lightning Lap at Virginia Intl. Speedway.
And what powertrain options did GM have at it's disposal in 2005 (when the Cobalt SS launched) that would have made it "so much faster"??? It's not like they would put a V-6 in it. I can't stand how import-biased almost every automotive journal is. They actually try to make American cars sound worse than they really are.

I for one agree on the rear wing, but really nothing else. If it was a write up on the scion tc/sc they would be telling every one how it rips up the street runs the 1/4 at a blazing 15.0. O well and by the way, what and the hell are you reading that trash for anyway!
Funny how an import magazine is talking trash about our wings. Look at the **** all those ricer jap pieces of slow cheesey **** put on there cars. Granted I am not a big wing fan but at least I am not spending 400 dollars to buy paint and install a completely useless modification. F#@k you Import Mag!!!
It's funny how they don't mention ACTUAL dyno numbers (seeing as we often dyno at more than what we're rated at). Also yes, this is the same magazine that I have seen countless times talk up the Scion Tc. I'll find out the month of the issue when I get home.
Tacky wing? What the hell do they call that thing that comes on the new Celica's & **** Tastefull?<< That wing is bigger to scale than the car!
I am glad they look at it that way, Because every time I go to a show & Stuff my car gets a ton of attention. It's even better when the ricer boys come over & they start talking to you & dont Know **** about our cars, Besides what they read in Mags like that 1!

import tuner dosent bash the SRT-4. it's just cause no one likes the cobalt. and the options open to us are just starting to surface. one we all start showing up to the track with turbo swaps, they will be forced to reconsider.
p.s. the wing is tacky

" I dont even want to go and try to explain the irony in this" -clerksII i mean an import tuner talking about a big wing is such an oxymoron, when they praise a triple decker.
Don't even start with that ****. Subaru's have worse resale/quality problems/reliability than half of the domestics out there. Give me a break.
