How To: Tint Your Interior Lights the easy way

How To Tint Your Lights - (the easy way)

Disclaimer: Neither I nor Cobaltss.net are responsible if you mess this process up and go to dark, ruin the plastic, run these while driving and get your ass pulled over.

------------------------------------

Tools:

Krylon - Stained Glass Translucent paint - (10$ available at any hobby store - Michaels Crafts)
Clear Coat (Optional)

PLEASE NOTE: I recommend the Krylon brand for this as Outtamymind and I tried this with his interior lights and found that the Rona brand seems to have a glue like consistency and can glob on in spots.

ALSO BE AWARE: As Outtamymind and I found out some of the SS models have a yellow bulb in the Rearview Mirror light... this can and will cause the color of the tint to change - in his case we found out that while it looked blue from the outside when looking in the interior it looked green. I'm not sure if this is only with the SS's as my SS/SC has wickedly bright clear lense bulbs hence the clean crisp red light for mine.

--------------------------------------------------------

This is a really quick process - remove the plastic lens from the rear view mirror. Paint the outside of the lense as the paint will not clump to the clips and you have a clean smooth finish.

Final Product:

With Newly installed interior led kit (+Rep to Outtamymind for the help).

Without Interior lights just Interior Kit

Hence why your not changing the bulbs... I've been in that situation a few times while on random drives around rural calgary & big hill springs national park at mid night... simple fix all you do is pop the plastic out and vola white light again for your map.

I decided to do this for that exact reason I've had friends change the interior lights with colored LED's and this was a problem we regularly ran into so I made the easy mod with a simple fix.

Actually Red light is an amazing light for reading maps at night. Red light is what soldiers, astronomers, and night hikers use to read maps. It doesn''t change the size of your eye so you don't lose your night vision. It should and will be plenty of light and at the same time, not affect your night vision.

I actually changed my bulbs last night, but went to Ultra White to match the rest of my car. Those bulbs are a pain in the ass to remove. I don't know what you used to get them out, but I ended up make a slipknot in some fishing line and got it down below the bulb, tightened it, and pulled.
